Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: The Safe Deposit Box

Lin Xian's words were like a thunderbolt, causing a stir among those present, akin to the infamous Damocles' sword or the dramatic table flip by Crows Brother.

A vice president hurriedly rose from his seat. "Lin Xian, are you serious?" he asked.

Lin Xian nodded.

The vice president rushed over, his hands trembling as he took the file bag and cautiously opened it, extracting the "Exclusive Authorization Letter" from within.

"This is indeed Professor Xu Yun's handwritten signature... it's real!" The vice president exclaimed as he inspected the contents of the authorization letter.

Indeed, Professor Xu Yun had transferred all rights and benefits of this chemical substance to Lin Xian, entrusting him with all decision-making authority. The letter ended with Professor Xu's personal signature.

The vice president's smile froze on his face as he stared at Lin Xian in disbelief. "Lin... Lin Xian, this 'Exclusive Authorization Letter' is granted to you personally. All rights and profits are in your hands!"

"Well, it's just a draft authorization letter," Lin Xian explained, having already prepared his response. He didn't want to delve into specifics with everyone. "Professor Xu has been busy lately and didn't have time to deal with these matters, so he entrusted them to me."

"He trusts us, so he said we could go ahead and use it. As for the official documents... when he has time, he'll draft them again."

Lin Xian's words brought sudden clarity to everyone. It all made sense now.

With unanimous approval, Lin Xian was praised for his remarkable achievement. Everyone commended him for single-handedly securing Professor Xu's authorization and saving MX Company from crisis.

"Enough, everyone is exaggerating," Lin Xian laughed, deflecting the praise. However, the enthusiastic applause in the meeting room persisted.

Meanwhile, the head of the research and development department had been engrossed in examining the thick research materials and experimental data.

After careful consideration, he exclaimed, "Indeed, Manager Zhao, this documentation outlines the preparation process and precautions for this chemical substance in detail. It seamlessly integrates with our previous work."

"All the previous approvals, permits, and reports can still be used, and we can definitely proceed with the press conference as scheduled."

In just a few minutes, the atmosphere in the meeting room had made a complete 180-degree turn.

The morale was soaring, and MX Company was back to its united front.

After the meeting, in Zhao Yingjun's office on the 22nd floor, she looked at Lin Xian with admiration. "This is all thanks to you, Lin Xian. You not only solved a major problem for the company but also relieved me of a great trouble."

Lin Xian shook his head modestly. "I didn't do much. It's just that Professor Xu values the teacher-student relationship and trusts me."

"I just spoke with Professor Xu on the phone, and what he said was completely different from what you conveyed in the morning meeting," Zhao Yingjun said, interrupting Lin Xian's attempt to explain.

"He specifically instructed me not to inquire too much about the details between you two. You don't need to explain anything, Lin Xian. I'm not the type to pry into others' affairs."

"I called you here according to Professor Xu's instructions because I want to sign a formal commercial authorization contract with you."

"Of course, whether to authorize MX Company or even other companies in the future, that power is in your hands. You have absolute ownership of this chemical substance."

"In return, MX Company will pay you a one-time authorization fee and monthly sales royalties."

Zhao Yingjun produced a contract and turned it over, pointing to the signature line. "If you're okay with it, just sign here. Once you've signed... the contract will be officially effective."

Lin Xian glanced briefly at the contract. Finding no issues, he signed it at the designated spot.

"From now on, what are your plans? Are you going to establish a specialized authorization company, or perhaps retire and enjoy life?" Zhao Yingjun inquired.

"I don't really have any plans..." Lin Xian replied truthfully. "I quite like my current job of designing Rhein Cat, and I've grown attached to the cat."

"If you don't mind, I'd like to continue working in this position as team leader."

"That's not a problem at all. However, there may be some adjustments in the future," Zhao Yingjun said with a smile. "Given your significant contributions to the company and the huge favor you've done for me personally, I can't let it go unnoticed."

Click.

Lin Xian finished signing both contracts, capped the pen, and handed it back to Zhao Yingjun, who stamped them with her seal. She then returned one copy to Lin Xian.

"Do you have a safe in your office?" she asked.

"No," Lin Xian shook his head. He had only seen safes in the office of the head of the finance department and the vice president.

"I'll have the logistics department arrange one for you," Zhao Yingjun said, picking up the intercom phone. "Lin Xian, make sure to keep these documents, contracts, and authorization letters in the safe. Losing them would be troublesome."

"Nothing else for now. Get back to work."

With that, Lin Xian left Zhao Yingjun's office, and the heavy security door closed behind him with a resounding thud.

He took a deep breath.

Who knew when he would have the chance to see that invitation letter again?

That was one reason he wanted to stay at this company.

If he resigned and left, he might never find a clue to the Genius Club.

Two days later, in the afternoon, employees from the safe company knocked on Lin Xian's office door.

"Hello, Mr. Lin," one of them greeted.

They proceeded to move a steel safe, over a meter tall, into Lin Xian's office.

One of the employees handed Lin Xian a set of keys. "Mr. Lin, this safe has a dual security structure with keys and passwords. To use it, you must first enter the password on the mechanical dial and then insert the key to open it. It's highly secure."

Lin Xian crouched down and examined the overlapping password dials on the safe, thinking back to the vault in the dream bank... the one with his name on it.

"What if I lose the key or forget the password?" Lin Xian asked curiously.

The employee smiled. "If you lose the key, you might be able to hire a very professional locksmith to open it. But... if you forget the password, then I'm afraid the safe will be impossible to open."

"This safe is different from ordinary ones. Its design is extremely sophisticated... there's virtually no chance of cracking the password."

Lin Xian stood up and patted the safe. It emitted a dull thud.

It appeared to be made of solid steel, very sturdy.

"What if..." Lin Xian looked at the employee. "If I accidentally forget the password, but the contents of the safe are extremely important, how can I retrieve them?"

"Is there any way to open a safe with a forgotten password?"

The employee scratched his head in frustration. "Well, if you insist..."

"There is indeed one last resort!"
