Chapter 106: The Owner of the "Fortune Accessory"
Alice seriously considered investigating the unknown entity and the possibility of selling the location of the Mercury Snake.
This thought quickly vanished as Alice realized it was not feasible:
"No... To be able to chase a great archangel to the point of exhaustion, he must at least be a great archangel himself, and he is definitely on the path to becoming a god. Uh... which means he just hasn't discovered me yet. Otherwise, wouldn't I also be his potion ingredient?"
Alice suddenly felt a bit sympathetic towards Charlie King.
After all, they were both potential potion ingredients. He wasn't... Ah, stop thinking about it!
Alice quickly refocused her wandering attention on the main issue:
"Reincarnation... no, rebirth or something, maybe it's a high-sequence ability? That would explain why he was a ten-year-old boy before...
"From his reaction, even if his mother—well, she's his mother now—even if that lady had a miscarriage, he would still have the ability to reincarnate, which would be very troublesome...
"It's a pity I don't know his mother's identity... But following him is too dangerous. After all, he is a Sequence 1, and even if he's just a fetus now, he must have the ability to retaliate before dying. And I don't understand high-sequence abilities, nor do I have a way to deal with them...
"I just feel a bit sorry for the vendor and the coachman."
Having completed her analysis, Alice concluded without any remorse. After all, if she were to feel sorry, the first person she should apologize to would be the child's mother.
If Alice had any concerns about this matter...
"Goddess bless, I hope the vendor's business hasn't been too affected, and that he can continue selling his ice cream... I quite like their ice cream."
Alice drew the symbol of the Crimson Moon on her chest and prayed devoutly.
---
At 8 PM on Wednesday, Alice appeared punctually in the living room where Mr. "Eye of Wisdom" held his gatherings.
She didn't actually have anything to buy; if anything, she was just curious whether the "Fortune Accessory" had been sold...
To Alice's surprise, she listened attentively throughout the entire gathering but never saw the seller she always paid attention to at each meeting.
Did he sell the "Fortune Accessory"?
Alice left the Brave Bar in a daze, feeling as if she had lost her source of joy there.
After thinking for a moment, Alice took a coin out of her pocket, silently recited, "The owner of the 'Fortune Accessory' successfully sold the 'Fortune Accessory'," and tossed the coin.
Seeing the coin land on the number side, Alice fell into deep thought again.
So, it wasn't sold?
But if that's the case, why didn't he come? Was it a coincidence, just that he had something to do this time, or... even if it was sold, it was no longer useful?
Thinking of this, Alice raised an eyebrow and quickened her pace home.
Entering the warm study with a fireplace, Alice closed the door, wrote "The reason the owner of the 'Fortune Accessory' didn't attend the Brave Bar gathering" on a piece of paper, and fell asleep while silently reciting it.
In her dream, she saw a scene from one of the gatherings.
In the dim living room, the central candlelight flickered, and the shadows of the people were uncertain. In this eerie atmosphere, the voice of the "Fortune Accessory" owner rang out:
"...You must resell it within three months, or you will lose all your wealth in the following half month, even if you resell it later, it will be useless."
After leaving the dream, Alice blinked blankly, realizing that the other party probably gave up selling because the three-month deadline had passed. But...
"Why do I feel uneasy?" Alice placed her hand on her heart, feeling her heartbeat, and asked blankly.
The question lingered in the air, not causing a ripple. After pondering for a moment and considering the success rate of directly divining the location of the "Fortune Accessory" owner, Alice wrote "The reason for my unease" on a piece of paper and fell asleep while silently reciting it.
But the revelation in the dream did not change.
It was still the dim living room, the flickering candlelight, and the familiar voice:
"...You must resell it within three months, or you will lose all your wealth in the following half month, even if you resell it later, it will be useless."
Alice frowned, tapped the table twice, and began to think about the possibilities behind the revelation:
"Assuming the 'Fortune Accessory' has a very serious negative effect... Uh, maybe no assumption is needed. The negative effect after the 'Fortune Accessory' expires must be unbearable, and the person would likely be almost gone by then.
"Even if we assume the 'Fortune Accessory' just expired today, the time left when it first appeared at the Brave Bar gathering was already short. It's certain that its owner was desperate, selling it at various gatherings. The Brave Bar should not be an exception...
"Considering the 'Fortune Accessory' was always priced at 2000 pounds, even if the owner was very anxious, they never considered lowering the price or giving it away. The price might be restricted...
"Is my unease related to the negative effect of the 'Fortune Accessory'? But the 'Fortune Accessory' is not in my possession, so even if it has a negative effect, it shouldn't affect me, unless...
"I know the owner of the 'Fortune Accessory'! No, that's not right either...
"It's possible that the owner of the 'Fortune Accessory' might act desperately due to the time limit and harm me or someone around me?"
After careful consideration, Alice wrote "Evelyn Greenland" on the white paper.
... After all, among the people Alice cared about, Evelyn was the most likely to encounter problems!
But Alice's unease did not ease at all. She realized that this matter probably had little to do with Evelyn.
"So, I really have a high chance of knowing the owner of the 'Fortune Accessory'..."
Alice pondered for a moment, then wrote "The place where I first met the owner of the 'Fortune Accessory'" on the paper and fell asleep again.
In her dream, she saw a busy dock. She disembarked from the ship with confusion and anxiety, while several other ships, including passenger and cargo ships, were also docking.
Workers swarmed the dock, some carrying goods and others helping passengers with their luggage.
Alice carefully avoided the crowded areas, leaving the busiest part of the dock. She stood in a slightly quieter spot, looking at the busy port and the chaotic crowd.
At this moment, a boy's voice called out: "Hi, miss, is this your first time in Backlund? Do you need a guide?"
