Lise and I managed to keep a distance as we trailed Zaya and Sapphire, making every attempt to stay inconspicuous. Unfortunately, "subtle" and "Lise" didn't go hand-in-hand.
"Stop laughing," I hissed, ducking behind a large potted plant as they rounded a corner.
"Come on, Eileen. I'm just having a little fun," she whispered, elbowing me with a grin.
We followed them down the street, doing our best to blend in. We even ducked into a shop window, pretending to admire a display of overpriced candles when they glanced in our direction.
I didn't know how long we'd be able to keep this up without getting caught, but I had to admit, it was exhilarating.
Zaya and Sapphire stopped at an arcade, not quite the romantic hotspot I'd imagined. I exchanged a puzzled look with Lise. Sapphire's polished elegance didn't exactly scream "arcade enthusiast," and I wondered if this was Zaya's doing.
