As we strolled toward the dorms, the sunset painted the sky in shades of lavender and gold, making the campus feel almost magical. Eileen's fingers were warm in mine, and though the grumble from her stomach still echoed in my head, the moment was perfect.
I glanced over at her, her face glowing in the soft light. She caught me staring and raised an eyebrow.
"What?" she asked, playfully suspicious.
"Nothing," I said, grinning. "Just... you look really happy."
She smiled, leaning her head briefly against my shoulder as we walked. "I am."
There was something about this moment something about us together like this that felt right. I'd known it for a while, but it still made my heart flutter in the most ridiculous way.
I was about to say something mushy when her stomach growled again, louder this time.
Eileen groaned, slapping her hand over her belly as if to muffle the sound. "Okay, okay, I get it. I need food before I turn into a monster."
