The moment I stepped into that room and saw Lise and Zaya standing there with sheepish grins and a suspiciously glowing pedestal behind them, I knew I was in for one of those conversations.
You know, the kind where you're both relieved and exasperated at the same time. And maybe just a little bit amused. But I couldn't let them know that not right away, at least.
"Lise," I started, trying to keep my voice stern, but I could already feel the corners of my mouth twitching upwards. "What in the world were you thinking? Investigating? In the old wing? You do realize how dangerous that place is, right?"
Lise blinked at me, her eyes wide and innocent, as if she hadn't just been caught red-handed poking around in a room that practically screamed "keep out." "We were just... being thorough," she replied, attempting to sound serious. "You know, making sure there wasn't anything Thalira left behind."
