The hallway had fallen into a heavy silence after Professor Helbrecht's stern words, but the quiet didn't last long. Zaya's uncontrollable giggling broke through the tension, echoing down the corridor.
She was practically doubled over, leaning against the wall for support as she laughed, her voice high-pitched and wheezing.
"Oh gods," she gasped between fits of laughter, "I'm never going to let you live this down, Eileen! Attacking Professor Helbrecht of all people!" Zaya's eyes were watery with amusement. "This is too good."
I could feel my face burning. My cheeks were practically on fire, and I didn't think I'd ever stop feeling the sting of embarrassment.
I'd accidentally set Professor Helbrecht's coat alight while trying to light the hallway. Honestly, could the night get any worse?
