Chapter 16 - Piano,Pride And Privilege

Kai adjusted his cufflinks, standing before his mirror, when his phone rang. Patience's name flashed on the screen. He answered, and she sent him her location.

"Time to pick up my date," Kai said to himself, smiling.

He got into his Mercedes S-Class and headed to Patience's house. As he arrived, Patience emerged, stunning in her evening gown.

"Wow, you look breathtaking tonight," Kai said, offering his arm.

"Thanks, Kai," Patience replied, her smile radiant.

As they drove, Kai's curiosity got the better of him. "So, Patience, where are we headed tonight?"

Patience hesitated before responding, "It's my friend's birthday party. I didn't want to go alone, so I thought of you."

Kai raised an eyebrow. "A birthday party? Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

Patience's eyes sparkled. "I wanted it to be a surprise. My friend's family is... influential. I thought it would be nice to have you by my side."

Kai's intrigue deepened. "Influential, huh? Sounds intriguing."

Patience smiled mischievously. "You'll see."

As they drove toward The Soweto Pearl, Kai wondered what the night had in store

As they drove, Kai asked, "So, what's your friend's name?"

"Her name is Sophia Regina," Patience replied. "Her family owns Regina Industries, one of the largest conglomerates in South Africa."

Kai's eyes widened. "I've heard of them. Aren't they one of the richest families in the country?"

Patience nodded. "Yes, they're second only to my family's wealth."

Kai whistled softly. "Impressive."

Patience's expression turned concerned. "I hope you won't feel out of place, Kai."

Kai reassured her, "Don't worry, I'll be fine."

Patience smiled. "You'll see, it'll be an unforgettable night. There'll be famous singers, celebrities... you'll love it."

As they arrived at The Soweto Pearl, Kai was struck by the venue's grandeur. Bright lights illuminated the entrance, where two imposing Berlin guards stood watch. The parking area was filled with luxury cars: Ferraris, Mercedes Benz's, and BMWs.

As Kai parked, he noticed the diverse crowd: teenagers and young adults, all dressed to impress.

"Go ahead, I'll catch up," Kai said to Patience.

Patience stepped out, her stunning evening gown shimmering under the lights. The fitted, strapless design showcased her elegance, and her long, flowing hair cascaded down her back.

Kai followed, approaching the entrance where two security guards blocked the way.

"Invitation, please," one guard requested.

Kai hesitated. "What invitation?"

The guard's expression turned stern. "You can't enter without an invitation, sir."

Kai realized his mistake. "I'm with Patience... I mean, I came with her."

Kai apologized, "Sorry, sir, I came with Miss Patience. I didn't know there was an invitation requirement."

The guard's expression remained firm. "No entry without an invitation, sir."

As the guards scrutinized Kai, they noticed his tailored suit. "Nice attire, but we've never seen him before," one guard whispered.

Meanwhile, Patience was inside, chatting with Sophia. She glanced outside, concerned. "Why is Kai taking so long?"

Upon seeing Kai surrounded by the guards, Patience hurried outside.

"What's going on?" Patience asked, her voice commanding attention.

The guards immediately changed their demeanor. "Miss Patience, how may we assist you?"

"He's with me," Patience declared.

The guards exchanged shocked glances. "Sorry, Miss Patience, we didn't know..."

Patience interrupted, "Just let him in."

The guards stepped aside, allowing Kai to enter.

As Kai followed Patience into the venue, he was struck by the opulence. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a kaleidoscope of colors across the polished marble floor. The room buzzed with conversation, laughter, and the soft strains of a live band.

Sophia Regina, a stunning beauty with piercing green eyes, greeted Kai warmly. "Welcome, Kai. I'm so glad you could make it."

Kai smiled, feeling a mix of relief and curiosity. "Thanks for having me."

As they mingled, Kai noticed the diverse crowd: business moguls, celebrities, and influential figures. He wondered what secrets lay beneath the surface of this extravagant party.

As Kai entered with Patience, she introduced him to her friends.

"Hey, this is Matthew," Patience said, gesturing to a young man with an arrogant smirk.

"Hey Kai," Matthew said, his tone dripping with condescension.

Kai nodded, unfazed. "Hey Matthew."

Next, Patience introduced Mark, who eyed Kai with disdain.

"Hey Mark, nice to meet you," Kai said, his smile unwavering.

Mark's scornful expression deepened.

Finally, Patience led Kai to the birthday girl, Sophia Regina.

"Hello, Kai," Sophia said, her voice warm.

"Hello, Miss Sophia, nice to meet you," Kai replied.

One of Patience's friends, Alexander, spoke up.

"So, Kai, what are your achievements? Which school do you attend?"

Kai answered confidently, "I'm in grade eleven, my second year."

Alexander snickered. "Oh, so you're in second grade? You failed, Kai?"

Kai's eyes narrowed, sensing their intentions.

These friends of Patience seemed determined to belittle him, flaunting their private school affiliations.

"We attend St. Michael's Private School," Alexander boasted.

Kai's expression turned amused. "These guys think they can intimidate me?"

Alexander boasted, "I'm a skilled pianist and soccer player. I've won numerous awards."

Kai shrugged. "I haven't won anything."

Alexander smirked. "You must try harder, Kai."

But Kai's thoughts revealed his confidence: "What is he up to? Trying to belittle me? I'll show him."

Just then, the emcee announced, "Our pianist is missing! Can anyone play the piano?"

Kai stepped forward, empowered by his newfound abilities. "I can."

Alexander's jaw dropped. "You can play piano? But you said you hadn't accomplished anything!"

Patience intervened, "Alexander, stop. You're not being funny."

The emcee invited Kai onstage, where a famous singer awaited.

As Kai played, his initial awkwardness transformed into mastery. The singer joined in, and their harmonious collaboration left the audience mesmerized.

Tears flowed, applause thundered, and whispers circulated: "Wow, this kid can play!"

Alexander's face contorted in shock and embarrassment.

Patience watched, astonished, as Kai's fingers danced across the piano keys. "Wow, Kai is a taekwondo master and now a pianist? He's even better than Alexander!" she thought.

Sophia Regina whispered in her ear, "Your friend is incredible. He plays like a master."

Kai's second song mesmerized the audience again. As he exited the stage, applause and cheers followed.

At their table, Alexander's silence was palpable. Sophia gazed at Kai with admiration, while Patience asked, "Kai, I had no idea you played the piano. Why didn't you tell me?"

Kai smiled nonchalantly. "Must have forgotten."

Patience chuckled. "Look at him now, so casual after that incredible performance."

Kai glanced at Alexander, satisfied. "Looks like someone's lost for words."

Alexander's expression confirmed Kai's triumph.

As Kai scanned the room, he thought, "I've played before, but never like this. My powers are unlocking new potential."

Sophia leaned in, "Kai, you're a true artist. Where did you learn to play?"

Kai's mysterious smile hinted at untold stories. "Let's just say... I've had my share of surprises."

As the venue continued, guests presented Sophia with lavish gifts. Kai thought, "I didn't bring a gift, but my piano performance was a present in itself."

Patience gifted Sophia a stunning necklace, earning grateful praise.

Soon, a dignified assistant approached Kai. "Sir, our master would like to see you."

Kai asked, "Who's your master?"

"The birthday girl's father, Mister Gray," the assistant replied.

Kai followed the assistant to Mister Gray's table.

Alexander watched, bewildered. "How did Kai impress Mister Gray so quickly?"

Mister Gray greeted Kai warmly. "I'm astonished by your piano skills. Where did you learn to play?"

Kai smiled humbly. "It was my first time playing."

Mister Gray's eyes widened. "Impossible! You're naturally gifted."

Kai reassured him, "I assure you, sir, it was my first time."

Mister Gray handed Kai his business card. "Call me anytime. I want to discuss your talent and potential collaborations."

Kai accepted the card, intrigued.

Mister Gray handed Kai a card with 50,000 rand. "Thank you for playing tonight. Consider this a token of appreciation."

Kai protested, "No, sir, it was nothing."

Mister Gray insisted, and Kai accepted the gift.

Then, Mister Gray gave Kai another card, a black credit card with 50,000 rand. Kai thought, "This is nothing compared to my billions in assets. Let him wonder."

Alexander approached Kai, intrigued. "What did Mister Gray's assistant want?"

Kai replied, "Just business discussions."

Alexander pressed, "What kind of business?"

Kai vaguely answered, "Company contributions."

Alexander sneered, "You got lucky, bro."

Matthew chimed in, "Alexander's just jealous. He couldn't impress Mister Gray with his piano skills."

The table erupted in laughter, with Alexander growing angrier.

Patience intervened, "Stop acting like children."

As the night continued, Kai asked Patience to dance. They glided across the floor, their movements harmonious.

The crowd watched, mesmerized. "Wow, they dance incredibly well."

Mister Gray observed, "This young man is a pianist, dancer, and potentially a valuable asset. I must bring him into my circle."
