Chapter 2 - 2 The Unexpected turn

Kai looked at Mr. Ramu, a mix of surprise and determination on his face. "Yes, sir. I'll do it. I'll join the math team."

Mr. Ramu smiled, nodding. "Excellent! I'll give you the details after school."

The class continued, with Kai answering question after question, stunning his classmates with his accuracy. Emily watched, impressed, her eyes sparkling with admiration.

As the class ended, Emily approached Kai. "Wow, Kai, I had no idea you were a math whiz too! You're like a Renaissance man – Taekwondo master and math genius. Would you tutor me? I could use some extra help."

Kai's heart skipped a beat. Emily wanting to spend time with him? He felt elated.

"Uh, yeah, sure. I mean, I'd be happy to help," Kai stuttered.

Emily grinned. "Great! Maybe we can study together during lunch?"

Kai nodded, trying to play it cool.

Mike burst in, grinning. "Yo, bro! Now you're a genius, too? I'm friends with the genius, the fighter, the Taekwondo master, and math Genius You're unstoppable, man!"

Kai chuckled, feeling proud. "Shut up, Mike."

As they walked to their next class, Kai couldn't help but wonder what other surprises this year held.

Kai walked into English class, his eyes locking onto Mrs. Catherine's warm smile. For a moment, they shared a silent understanding, as if she knew his thoughts.

"Good luck this year, Kai," Mrs. Catherine said, her voice gentle.

Kai wondered how she knew what he was thinking. "Thanks, Mrs. Catherine," he replied, returning to his seat.

Emily smiled at him from across the room, while Mike, his best and only friend, nudged him playfully.

"Hey, man, what's up?" Mike whispered.

Kai grinned. "Just Mrs. Catherine being her awesome self."

Mrs. Catherine began the lesson. "Welcome, class. Open your books to page 12. Today, we're reviewing past, present, and future tenses."

As Kai opened his book, a familiar feeling washed over him. He already knew the answers.

"What's happening again?" he thought, flipping through the pages.

In just two minutes, he had absorbed the material, five pages worth of grammar rules and exercises.

"How could I know that?" Kai wondered, amazed.

He re-read the pages, grasping concepts he had never seen before.

Mike leaned over. "Dude, you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost."

Kai shook his head, still in awe. "I just...I already know this stuff."

Emily overheard. "That's amazing, Kai! Maybe you're just naturally good at English."

Kai hesitated, unsure. Was it just coincidence or something more?

Mrs. Catherine's voice brought him back to reality. "Let's practice, class. Write a paragraph using all three tenses."

Kai's pen moved effortlessly across the page, his words flowing with ease.

Mrs. Catherine scanned the room, her eyes settling on Kai. "Alright, Kai, would you like to share your paragraph? Show us your understanding of the tenses."

Kai nodded confidently, clearing his throat. "Sure, Mrs. Catherine."

He began to read aloud, his voice smooth and clear. "In the past, I struggled with math, but now I'm excelling. By next year, I will have mastered trigonometry."

The class listened in awe as Kai seamlessly transitioned between past, present, and future tenses.

Mrs. Catherine's eyebrows shot up. "Wow, Kai! That's impressive. You accurately used all three tenses."

The class erupted into murmurs and whispers.

"Wow, Kai's a genius!" someone exclaimed.

Emily smiled, her eyes sparkling with admiration. "Is Kai that amazing?" she thought.

Mike grinned proudly. "Told you, bro's a hidden talent."

Mrs. Catherine beamed. "Kai, I didn't know you had it in you. Your level one in English last year didn't do you justice."

Kai's face flushed, but he felt a surge of pride.

As the lesson continued, Kai's confidence soared. He answered every question with ease, his understanding of grammar and vocabulary stunning the class.

Emily's thoughts echoed Mike's: "Kai's not just a math whiz; he's an English prodigy too."

The bell rang, signaling the end of class.

As they packed up, Mike clapped Kai on the back. "Dude, you crushed it!"

Kai chuckled, feeling grateful for his friend's support.

As Kai walked to his next class, he felt a surge of confidence. "Business class might be challenging, but I'm ready," he thought. "With my new abilities, I can excel in anything."

Kai's mind began to wander. "What if I started my own business? I could support Mom, who's working tirelessly at the grocery store, and help Dad recover from his illness."

Determination burned within him. "This year, I'll make a change. I'll become a top student and create a better life for my family."

As Kai entered the business class, his eyes met Mr. Flyer's stern gaze. The teacher's reputation preceded him – tough, no-nonsense, and unforgiving.

Mr. Flyer's eyes narrowed. "Kai, level one and two last quarter. I doubt you'll turn it around this semester."

Kai's resolve strengthened. "I'll prove him wrong," he thought.

Mr. Flyer began the lesson, his voice firm. "Let's get to it, class. Business studies isn't for the faint of heart. You'll need to stay focused and driven."

Kai listened intently, his mind racing with ideas.

The lesson progressed, with Mr. Flyer outlining the curriculum and expectations. Kai absorbed every word, his business acumen sparking.

Mr. Flyer lectured on, confident in his expertise. "The primary goal of a business is to maximize profits through cost minimization and revenue optimization."

Kai's hand shot up. "Sir, I think it's not that. It's this: the primary goal of a business is to create value for stakeholders while balancing profitability and social responsibility."

Mr. Flyer's expression turned skeptical. "No, Kai, that's not correct."

Kai politely countered, "Sir, actually, research suggests that successful businesses prioritize long-term sustainability over short-term gains. Consider the stakeholder theory versus shareholder theory."

The class stared in awe.

Mr. Flyer's face turned red. "Kai, I...I didn't see it that way, but you're absolutely right. My mistake."

Mike grinned at Kai. "Dude, you did it again!"

Kai smiled inwardly, feeling vindicated.

As he sat in his chair, Kai thought, "Wow, I can really do this. This year, I'll prove Mr. Flyer wrong and show everyone what I'm capable of.

Kai's unstoppable streak continued, answering question after question with ease. The class watched in awe, whispering among themselves.

"Isn't this overkill? Kai's answering all the questions!"

"His answers are so correct, and his speech is so confident!"

Mr. Flyer's expression transformed from skepticism to amazement. "Wow, Kai, you're on fire! How are you answering all these questions correctly?"

As the bell rang, signaling the end of class, the students flooded out into the hallway for lunch. Emily approached Kai, smiling.

"Hey, Kai, remember you said we could study math together during lunch? I really need your help."

Kai nodded, pleased to assist. "Of course, Emily. Let's grab a spot and go over some problems."

They headed to the courtyard, where Kai pulled out his lunchbox. He hadn't bought lunch from the cafeteria, preferring to save money.

As they ate, Kai began explaining math concepts to Emily, illustrating problems on a piece of paper. Emily listened intently, her eyes widening with understanding.

"Wow, Kai, you make it look so easy!"

Kai chuckled. "It's just practice, Emily. You'll get the hang of it."

Their study session continued, with Kai guiding Emily through complex equations and theorems. Mike joined them, observing Kai's teaching skills with admiration.

"Bro, you're a natural teacher," Mike said.

Kai smiled, feeling fulfilled. "Just happy to help, Mike."

As lunch ended, Emily thanked Kai for his help. "You're an amazing tutor, Kai. I owe you one!"

As Kai, Emily, and Mike sat in the courtyard, enjoying their lunch, a familiar figure approached. Raymond, flanked by three friends, sauntered up, a hint of embarrassment on his face.

"Hey, Kai, how's it going?" Raymond asked, his tone awkward.

Kai's eyes narrowed. "Raymond, what do you want? Can't you see I'm busy?"

Raymond's companions exchanged uneasy glances, sensing the tension.

Raymond held up his hands. "No, bro, I'm not looking for trouble. I just wanted to apologize."

The courtyard fell silent, with onlookers intrigued by the sudden turn of events.

Kai raised an eyebrow. "Apologize?"

Raymond nodded. "Yeah, I was out of line last time. I realize now that I was wrong. Can we start over? Be friends?"

The crowd murmured in surprise.

Emily smiled. "Kai's definitely a great guy."

Mike nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he's the man."

Kai studied Raymond's expression, searching for sincerity.

Kai stood up, facing Raymond eye-to-eye. "Okay, we can be friends, but promise me one thing: no more troublemaking. Leave everyone alone."

Raymond's friends exchanged skeptical glances.

"What are you doing, bro?" one of them whispered. "We were supposed to--"

Raymond silenced them with a stern glance. He turned back to Kai.

"I promise, no more trouble. You're right, it's time to change."

Raymond turned to his friends, his eyes flashing with intensity.

"From now on, you'll respect Kai. Do you hear me?"

He jabbed his fist gently into one friend's stomach.

"No more bullying. Kai's our bro."

The friends nodded hastily.

"Okay, bro, we'll respect Kai."

Raymond smiled, extending his hand to Kai.

"Fresh start, bro."

Kai shook Raymond's hand, sealing their unexpected truce.

The courtyard erupted into applause, with Emily and Mike cheering.

As Kai sat back down, Emily leaned in.

"Wow, Kai, you're not only smart but also a peacemaker."

Mike grinned.

"Bro, you're a legend."

Kai smiled humbly.

"It's just about doing the right thing."
