Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Awkward yet Courteous

"Installing new facilities?"

In the tavern, a few regulars sipped their beer while listening to Miss Vampire in front of them bragging pompously.

A Dog-headed Person bared his teeth and grinned doubtfully at the gadget in Miss Malt's hand, his face full of canine suspicion, "You mean to say, place this thing around the city, and then those people will be able to 'see' the deity's propaganda in their dreams at night?"

"Divine revelations usually don't appear en masse within a specific area, and only the devout believers can...well, you're a Pope too, a Pope who drinks every day. You're probably not very devout towards this new god."

"But I still have to say, allowing a bunch of people, including clerics from other sects, to receive 'revelations'... This, this is impossible by all accounts...."

The Dog-headed Person fiddled with the thing in his hand that looked like a small broken pot, even trying it on his head.

"What are you talking about? How can you question my 'monetary sincerity' to the lord!"

Miss Malt sternly criticized the Dog-headed Person, who shrank his canine head and closed his mouth.

"I've also received activity approval from the Steel Church, and several urban district governments have stamped their approval... It's been such a hassle."

"May the lord's glory walk upon the land of Steam Nation and comply with the district governments' laws and regulations."

Miss Malt looked out of the window, "Anyway, now we just need to wait for some good news."

"If we talk about standalone publicity, the Fictional Church's promotional power is certainly not enough. But isn't there a massive promotional event underway these days?"

...

In the Grey World, the most extensive, most mature, and best-operating printing and media company among all media, advertising, and publicity firms was a company known as "Today Printing."

And for the Sacrifice Church, to evangelize in a world where their faith was not mainstream and to harvest tangible results from such missionary work, they had to be resolute, make decisions, and spend heavily.

And of course, Today Printing was the company assisting the Sacrifice Church with their publicity.

No one turns away from money. As long as you pay up, we'll be brothers from different mothers. I might even convert for a while... but if I renounce the faith later, that just means it's time for you to top up your account.

"Choosing our company was a very wise decision. We have provided publicity services for many churches. In terms of both quality and scale, we are unmatched by any other company."

"Trust me, at least half the world will see our flyers within a week. No other company has the strength to do that!"

Manager Boer of the company and the Archbishop of the church shook hands enthusiastically. Both parties were very happy with their discussion.

"To be honest, my lord has just won a significant victory, and thanks to this victory, his domain of faith has expanded greatly. And this was all due to the efforts of another regional Bishop from another world."

"As you know, among the gods, my lord is very active. He actively participates in all worldly affairs and has made many indelible contributions to the prosperity and development of the world. For instance, the victory he just achieved originated from the destruction of the God of Deception's faith."

"The God of Deception, also known as the Faceless, protected those filthy, lowly deceivers. This time, destroying the church of the God of Deception has completely rejuvenated the world's norms. I'm sure that before long, that world will enter a new era under my lord's leadership...."

Manager Boer's smile became awkward for a moment, "But, the God of Deception is also the patron deity of performers, secret keepers, and journalists. If we lose the God of Deception, then who will keep the secrets of the temporal world, who will protect the acting staff, and who can ensure that those who report the news won't suddenly drop dead the next day?"

"They are not important. There are many deities with the power of secrecy, and there are just as many who protect performers. As for journalists, nobody cares about what they say because everyone will have forgotten it all by the next day," the Archbishop of the Sacrifice Church responded with a smile.

Manager Boer displayed an awkward yet polite smile, "Yes... that's right."

Indeed, but the cost of faith in the other deities associated with 'secrecy,' 'performance,' and 'broadcasting' is quite severe. By comparison, the price of worshiping the God of Deception is extremely small.

It seems the God of Sacrifice's ability to destroy the church of the God of Deception might also involve the participation of these other deities. It's just surprising that the recent disappearance of faith in a deity was precisely due to the God of Deception.

Manager Boer was wealthy, and though he did not come from the lower echelons of society, he couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness for those working-class individuals who had lost their faith. These faithless workers would find it challenging to seek protection from a deity of a similar nature, for the new gods lacked the divine quality of the God of Deception.

The reason the God of Deception demanded smaller sacrifices was also due to his divine attribute of "ambiguity," even collecting his dues in a "close enough" manner.

Once again, the Archbishop of the Sacrifice Church put forth a request:

"Bishops in other regions have accomplished a significant feat, and now I plan to hold a lecture in this world. As His faithful servant, it is only natural that I do my utmost to not fall short of those other regional Bishops."

"You may use the funds provided by our church at your discretion, and if you're short on money, that's not an issue, we're not lacking funds. The only requirement is to make the propaganda vigorous and grand... We must promote it with the greatest effort."

"It would be best if there was a bit of innovation in it."

Manager Boer nodded with a smile, and after a pleasant discussion with the Archbishop of Sacrifice, they finalized the promotional plan, then saw him out.

Soon, the printing machines of Today Printing Company sprang into action.

Printing media circulates various information to the public through printed means. It encompasses a wide array of mediums like books, publications, newspapers, and images.

Among all the mass communication mediums, the printing method is the oldest. And with age comes maturity. Its entire process is traceable, and the results are predictable and estimable.

Similarly, Today Printing Company was well-practiced in aiding the Sacrifice Church with "one-day promotions."

To the company, Sacrifice Church was not the first to request a one-day promotion. Churches like the Steel Church and War God Medical Association had also sought out their services for such promotions, each with different content, not necessarily a lecture by a Deity, but also other events.

For example, the promotion by the War God Medical Association offered free medical checkups, amputations, bloodletting, trepanning, and thoracotomy for a day. The more serious the disease, the bigger the discount, and they even featured a bold slogan—cut where there's disease, cut open where there isn't, since it's free, this cut is complimentary.

Past promotions largely relied on conventional methods, sticking to books, publications, newspapers, images—the fundamental four. At most, they would include joint events with churches, like dining at a particular restaurant and receiving a small gift from one of the churches, such as a low-power heater from the Steel Church.

Or, some churches would proactively offer "one-time Divine Art experiences." These Divine Arts were single-use, but for many, it was a rare opportunity to experience Divine Arts or even a chance to achieve their personal goals.

For the churches, these one-time Divine Arts served as a tool to recruit worshippers, also a form of "small gift."

However, the promotional strategy for Sacrifice Church needed to differ this time, for they had provided an abundant amount of money.

"People from the Sacrifice Church really do have money. It is said that their reputation in other worlds isn't very good. In the worlds where they dominate, other churches can barely survive under their shadow. Their inherently aggressive nature ensures they monopolize the mainstream industries of those worlds..."

"It seems they're determined to become the new mainstream here. This spending spree is just an appetizer for their subsequent investment activities."

Boer, the shrewd manager of Today Printing Company, was unconcerned about the Sacrifice Church's attempt to expand their influence; such endeavors were destined to be short-lived.

The God of Deception was destroyed because he was not a strong Deity in essence.

The true ruler of the Grey World was the Steel Church.

The Steel Church is the terrestrial agency of the Steel God.

The God of Sacrifice? He was merely a minor third-tier Deity.

So, no matter how much The God of Sacrifice struggled or how much money he spent, the Grey World's social environment would remain unchanged!

As long as the Steel gears and billowing steam, along with the Medical Cultivator Association's scalpel remain vigilant over this world, society here will continue to function as it always has, entirely irrelevant to the God of Sacrifice's efforts!

Therefore, Manager Boer readily agreed to the Sacrifice Church's extravagant spending and promised to make good use of the money for their cause.

What a bunch of easy marks... oh no, rather, esteemed clients.
