Professor Cao didn't completely catch his breath.
When the red light spread to his waist, it stopped because Professor Cao had finally finished speaking and closed his eyes again.
Statuesque and immobile, he caused the Furnace to cease its erosion of the soul.
But everyone knew that this situation could not last long.
After the meeting, the crowd dispersed, but Lin An was left behind. Doctor Zhang pulled him aside and whispered to him.

Doctor Zhang looked deeply at Lin An, gently patted his shoulder, and then left the courtyard.
And so the courtyard fell completely silent.
The wind rustled the treetops, causing the patches of sunlight filtering through the leaves to sway. Lin An looked down at an ant crawling in the gaps between the paving stones, becoming transfixed.
