Jicheng.
A city on the border of Chu State, it was also the last city to fall to the enemy.
Zhang Juxian.
A scholar who was originally obscure in both countries, but became famous in the official circles of both due to Jicheng.
The Wu State army invaded, conquering cities and lands along their path, undefeated in battle, except at Jicheng, where they encountered resistance.
And the commander of the defending army of Jicheng was none other than Zhang Juxian.
A mere scholar, leading three thousand soldiers of Jicheng, had miraculously held the city for three months. Had it not been for the fall of Chu State's capital and Zhang Juxian's negotiation with Wu State promising not to massacre the people of Jicheng if he surrendered, it might have taken another half month to take down the city.
Wu State lost twenty thousand soldiers in the siege.
To Wu State, Zhang Juxian became an object of deep hatred, and upon his surrender, he chose to hang himself.
