In the field outside the west gate of the Royal City, there were trenches and sand fortifications dug by the defenders everywhere; cannon units deployed behind them, ready to unleash a barrage of fire upon the advancing Longjiu Army. The field army, unable to quickly build fortifications, would have no choice but to charge head-on.
