After several rounds of testing, Heine came to the following conclusion:
The ninth-level transformation spell that sustained the Floating City resulted in a "permanent transformation," meaning there would be no embarrassing incidents of it suddenly falling apart while in flight.
Although its defensive strength was not as good as the original pure Obsidian structure, it was still fairly sturdy overall, retaining two-thirds of its original shadow resistance, while its weight had sharply decreased to one-fifth of its original mass.
Furthermore, as long as a Shadow Sorcerer ignited it, the Floating City would not require additional energy to fly, because its true nature was that of a Tree Herder.
Therefore, during flight, it could absorb free-floating energy—whether it be the forces of nature or shadow, either could partially fuel it.
