A new team is being set up at the police headquarters of City S. The team will consist of experts in various fields recruited from all over the Breeze Nation. It is difficult for officers to take up posts at the headquarters. Five years of service with additional achievements is the minimum requirement. However, the establishment of investigation team 1 will not follow normal recruitment standards.
This team has recruited ten members specializing in their fields. The other units at the station are required to help as needed by the team.
One such special recruitment is Adelaide Autumns. Adelaide received the notification to report to the City S Police Headquarters at 10:00 a.m. on the 9th of May.
As required, Adelaide stood at the door of her station, tying her curly hair into a tight bun and staring at the solemn police badge on the building. Today was her first day at work, and she was to work directly at the headquarters.
Adelaide took a deep breath, calmed her racing heartbeat and tense nerves down, and walked into the station. She went to the nearest guard and asked him, "Where is Investigation Team 1?"
The guard scanned her police uniform and thought that she looked petite. He glanced at her a few times suspiciously and demanded an identity card from her for verification.
Adelaide handed over her newly minted ID and observed the guard. Upon seeing the ID, the guard's eyes widened as he confirmed that the girl was indeed a member of Investigation Team 1.
Feeling Adelaide's eyes on him, he cleared his throat and pointed towards the stairs, "Walk up to the second floor. Everyone else should have gathered in the conference room to the far left."
Adelaide took back her ID and followed the guard's instructions to reach the conference room.
She heard people talking inside the room.
"Did you hear? The prisoner in cell 292 at the Xi-Jail died last night."
"Isn't it common for criminals to commit suicide after enduring the isolation at the Xi-Jail? Why is it spread everywhere?"
A male voice whispered, "But that's the point the prisoner did not commit suicide; he was murdered."
"Murdered? Inside the cell?" Another voice exclaimed.
Deciding not to listen any further, she walked inside the room. Upon seeing her, the voices stopped abruptly, and everyone in the room turned to look at each other. There were already nine people in the room, and the girl who just walked in should be the tenth member of their team.
A group of people followed after Adelaide. Among the people, a tall man with more grey hair on his temple than the black ones clapped his hands and said, "Now that everyone is here, let everyone introduce themselves. I am Jake Evans, and I will be in charge of the logistics of the team and will also act as your supervisor."
A red-haired man stood up, his manners as flamboyant as his hair, " Caleb Waters, I am 27 years old, and I am the tech geek of the team."
There was sparse applause in the room as he finished speaking.
He turned around on the spot with his arms spread and bowed a little with one leg behind the other as he thanked his audience.
Immediately afterward, a solemn-looking man with dark brown hair and a wheatish complexion stood up.
"I am Xander Thrush. I will be serving as the captain of this team, and my specialty is investigation. I am 33 years old, and I want to say something before we continue with our introduction.
He glanced at Jake, and upon seeing him give him a slight nod, he continued, " Since the matter I will be talking about is confidential, I hope anyone outside the team does not listen to anything I will continue to say. It is not because I do not trust you but because knowing the details could put you in danger."
The people who followed after Jake nodded in understanding. One of them spoke, "We understand your concerns, Captain Thrush. Do not worry we shall leave shortly."
A girl from the group smiled, continued to greet everybody, and said, " Hello, Investigation Team 1. We will get to know each other as we work. I just want to let you know that we will serve as assistants to the team. Captain Jake will be in charge, and we will follow his lead to help you all. Some of us work in multiple sectors and will be in charge of your rear."
The team of five nodded at the members of investigation team 1 in greeting and then left the conference room altogether.
Captain Xander stopped smiling as soon as they left and walked up to the board in the room with a marker in hand.
"Now that they are gone, I will tell you about our first case."
