Chapter 2 - A disarming smile

After a leisurely morning, Emily arrived home just past noon, feeling satisfied with her grocery shopping trip. She spent the afternoon tackling her chores, reading the newspaper, and watching TV. As the evening drew close, she cooked herself a delicious dinner and retired to bed, feeling grateful for the peaceful day.

The next morning, Emily woke up feeling rather disheveled. Her hair was a tangled mess, and her body ached as if she had engaged in some strenuous activity the day before. But she couldn't recall doing anything out of the ordinary. Shrugging it off, she put on some comfortable sweatpants and decided to start her day with a much-needed coffee from the shop on her street.

As she reached for the door handle, she caught a glimpse of her new ring and couldn't help but smile. The opal sparked in the morning light, reminding her of the unexpected encounter with the handsome stranger. She could almost swear there was something magical about the ring but decided not to dwell too much on it.

At the coffee shop, Emily ordered her favorite double cappuccino latte with condiments, intending to take it back to her apartment. But as she waited for her drink she felt a sudden urge to sit and enjoy it at the coffee shop instead. She found a cozy table by the window and settled in, savoring the rich aroma and flavor of her coffee.

Just as she had been enjoying her breakfast for barely two minutes, the door swung open and the charming stranger from the grocery store walked in. He looked even more alluring in the morning light, his piercing blue eyes scanning the room as if searching for someone. Emily's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met.

He flashed a warm smile, and Emily's face grew hot as she quickly looked away, trying to compose herself. She wondered if he would notice her sitting there and if their paths would cross again so unexpectedly. The ring on her finger seemed to sparkle even more as if it was trying to remind her of the strange connection she felt with this mysterious stranger.

He walks towards her, his confident stride eating up the distance between them. As if favored by the universe, he narrowly avoids a collision with a waiter carrying a hot cup of coffee by mere centimeters. The waiter's eyes widened in alarm, but the guy didn't even flinch, his focus fixated on Emily. When he reaches her table, he flashes her another disarming smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

He passes by her table, his smile still fixed on her, and sits down at the next table, his eyes never leaving hers. Emily feels a flutter in her chest, a mix of irritation and curiosity. Who is this guy, and why is he making her feel like this? She tries to focus on her book, but her eyes keep drifting back to him, wondering what he's thinking, and what he wants.

Under any other circumstance, it would have made her blush, but instead, it kind of made her mad. Why all the smiles? Why hasn't he actually said anything to her?

She's never been an attention seeker in her entire life. Some might go as far as saying she does her best to avoid attracting people's attention, but for some unknown reason, being ignored by him really bothers her. And the weird thing is, she doesn't really know why.
