"Have a nice rest sir."
After rounding up at work,I bid farewell to my boss.
"Yes, goodbye Adam". My boss replies
I take my small bag with me while moving towards the elevator when my phone rings for the second time today.
I wasn't in the mood to pick up calls, therefore I unceremoniously ignored whosoever that was calling me at that point in time.
Quickly getting into the elevator, I descend to the ground floor in order to take my leave.
Upon descending to the ground floor, I unhurriedly walked to the exit, at the same time, faintly greeting some familiar faces I pass by... probably for the last time.
Not feeling the need to go home, I decide to take a stroll on the road, planning to spend the last few hours of my life lost in my chaotic thoughts....
Despite my lady killer looks, no one was willing to approach me because of my cold demeanor and desolate aura. Not that I cared much about it anyway..
Unknowingly, I had walked into a secluded area while being distracted thinking of my late parents.
"..w...why...why did they have to le..ave?". Muttering some broken words that cannot be heard unless listened to carefully, I stand still on the spot looking towards the sky with unwillingness as though I'm challenging the heavens for such unfairness.
And as if in response to that defiance I showed, the sky cracked with thunder which was followed up with a mildly heavy downpour of rain.
After standing still for some time, I grab my phone from my pocket to check the time.
"Ohh...so it's already 10:40pm, I guess it's almost time..."
...You may wonder... time for what?
Well, when the clock hits 'Twelve'... instantly, I die...
This, unfortunately is the reason for my inhospitable attitude all this while.
I was about to switch of my phone when a notification caught my attention.
It read,
[1 missed call from Evelyn].
As soon as I saw that, I realized that she was the person who called me when I was about leaving work.
But because I didn't pick, the call went to voicemail. Hesitating for a short while, I finally decide to listen to it.
-"Hey Adam, it's Evelyn...you haven't spoken with me in a while, and I hear from my friends that your attitude has gotten even worse... is there something going on?...you know I care for you so very much. So what ever it is, talk to me... I'm here for you...please...*sobs*"-
Hearing this voicemail, I tightened my grip on my phone so much that it's screen shattered to pieces in my hand.
I said weakly, "you can't ever understand Evelyn...you can never know how it feels to know when you die...to know that all the efforts you put through will soon come to null...seeing your short life expectancy right before your eyes and not being able to do anything about it!..."
Throwing away what remains of my phone, I continue "...that feeling...it's devastating.."
Finding my way to the roof of the highest building in sight, I gaze down to the empty streets continuously struck down by rain droplets, making quite an attractive sight to behold.
I then gently lay on the ground and close my eyes, letting the rain drench me completely.
"We can finally be together again...mom...dad.."
Breathing steadily, time seemed to pass slowly but surely, only the sounds of the rain could I hear...and soon after, silence reigned...
...Yes, I Adam Wayne, died this day.
Full of questions and wishes that can never be fulfilled
...Or will they?
