Chereads / The Rebirth Of The Undaunted / Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8

Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8

My feet made their way through the shallow valley, the sound of twigs snapping and rustling of leaves filled the air.

My eyes adjusted to the night light as my werewolf senses heightened helping me find my way. My eyes snapping in different directions as I walked.

The cooing and hooting of birds filled the air making the hairs on skin stand.

Ana scoffed "Scaredy cat "

I rolled my eyes. She just had to remind me that she was with me and I would be fine.

"Ana to the rescue" she joked. I couldn't believe she was joking in the middle of all this.

The still mountains gave off an eerie feeling that kept creeping up the pit of my stomach. Using my human instincts, I searched for the spot.

I found the spot, a cave that had an opening above it. This was the place where I had met the Moon goddess.

"Moon goddess" I whispered, my voice blending into the night.

There was silence.

"Moon goddess!!" My voice rang out causing the birds and bats to cower in fear as they took off.

It was like the still of the night having no sound, a short moment of silence that I ended up breaking it.

"Goddess" I screamed at the top of my lungs and fell on my knees. The other time I had come in pain but now I came to seek answers to so many questions.

"Lily" I heard her voice as soothing as the cool night breeze sending goosebumps all over my being.

"Why are you back here again Lily" she snapped obviously, hating a nuisance like me, but I would still push on.

I bowed my face not wanting to see the ferocious light that she was emitted.

"What do you want?" She asked, her voice calm and firm.

" Moon goddess I need your help" I pleaded, I felt a sharp sting as tears began to form in my eyes.

"Seems like you didn't learn from your last experience on getting something quickly" she said

My head hung low. Of Course I learnt from the last experience. It took alot away, I just wanted Damon to live but now I can only watch him and not be with him.

"Moon goddess I want answers... I want to know… just the answers to my questions" I stuttered, my throat getting dry as I tried to prevent the tears in my eyes from falling.

There was silence.

"Only you can help me with the answers now" I whispered with quivering lips.

There was another round of silence which seemed to last forever or maybe she was waiting for me to be done whimpering.

"What do you want to know, Lily?" Her voice echoed, slicing into the wind.

" I want to know about the feud, the curse and why I can't be with Damon" my body shook.

The rounds of silence were getting too much that I just listened to my heartbeat.

"Do you remember when I told you that you lose a life to gain a life? " she asked.

I could remember vividly. I nodded

"When you give, you lose something and then gain another thing, much better things"

"Isn't it due to the curse?" I asked.

"You gave something up Lily, you don't expect to have it back…"

Her resonant voice became distant as I recoiled. Thoughts swirled through my head, will I never be with Damon, have I sacrificed my happiness along with my life, was there going to be no more Damon and Lily. Tears welled in my eyes.

"Lily" her voice resounded, vibrating the cave and reverberating in my ears. I collected my thoughts at once.

"Don't be so sad" she be soothed.

Could she understand my feelings, could she read my mind and know my thoughts.

Who was I kidding, she is the moon goddess so she obviously knows it all.

"It's not you or Damon… it's the curse"

My eyes widened. I wanted to look up but the impenetrable light wouldn't let me.

"The curse can be lifted… the feud can be solved and I can be with Damon" I rattled on and on.

"Mortals" "You haven't asked about the curse yet" she said.

"I am ready," I told her.

"Interesting" she remarked. I'm certain that there would be a smile on her face at the moment.

"Years ago, there was a feud between the Wildfire pack and Duskfire pack. They fought against each other relentlessly"

She continued "There was a series of bloodshed among the wolves, killing each other, taking one another as prey… I watched them destroy themselves with no peace and no solution to their problems"

"Destroying homes, killing pups, burning building, it was all turning to a war zone as generation after generation fought with one another"

"Sons against their fathers and daughters against their mothers, the juvenile wolves became soldiers at very young ages"

My heart broke. I could hear Ana whimper at the back of my head. The story is just so painful and the moon goddess just had to watch her people destroy one another without being able to interfere, it must have been so painful for her.

I couldn't imagine what could have stopped the feud and brought a curse upon the two packs.

Her soothing voice echoed " The feud could only be stopped by the curse" she said, her voice indifferent.

My eyes twitched. It felt odd, she made it all sound like she was behind it.

'Was she the reason behind the curse or not'

I always hated detectives and finding clues is never my kind of thing; but this whole thing was currently making me one. A detective.

The cave vibrated as if it was going to collapse at any moment but it was just her voice. So much power.

"Don't dream too much, Lily," Ana said.

I couldn't dream to have the power the moon goddess has, but my dream is to get back to the man I love.

"We should only dream of the best"

"I have given you the answer to your question Lily" she stated.

I wanted to solve this mystery, know the facts behind it, the truth that was laced by the curse.

"Can't the curse be lifted?" I asked to prepare myself for any impending danger.

"The curse can be lifted but it would cost a lot"

'Another sacrifice?'

Do I have to give up my life a second time? I might not have it back if that happens.

"The only solution is to find the cup were the spilled blood that was used to seal the curse is,"

"Cup of spilled blood… that's strange "

"How am I supposed to find that" this was driving me nuts.

"The cup was buried and you have to find it yourself if you want to lift the curse"

The still of the night helped me collect my thoughts, selecting every word and seeking the solution to the problem.

"You can also go back in time," she added.

I shook my head. That would reduce my lifespan and I didn't know how long the lifespan I had in Ariona's body was.

My mind was blank. I couldn't think of any other way and I couldn't possibly go back in time, I might not be opportune to see my lover again.

"Lily… you could give up your life for Damon and am sure you can find this cup" she reassured.

"If the curse isn't lifted you can't be with Damon even if he recognised that you are Lily… the both of you won't be together, it will only cause you guys pain"

" The ceased feud might start again claiming people's lives and you and Damon are not going to be free either" She warned.

My ears buzzed from her warning. She was the one who instigated the curse and even if she wasn't, she's the moon goddess, it would be foolish of me not to adhere to her words.

"Moon goddess… where would I find the cup " but she was nowhere to be seen, she vanished with the wind.

Going back in time was not an option. I had come so far to hear this bad news.

My head throbbed from the pain of losing the one I love, not being able to get justice for Ariona and Lisa.

"We can do this, Lily" Ana said, taking me out of my thoughts, bringing me back to my senses.

"I will fight for what's right" We will see to the end of these problems.

"Where do we start from?" I asked no one in particular.

'Every journey begins with a step' I assured myself

'Taking a step would not hurt, it would only bring me closer to what I want' I reassured.

If the moon goddess had believed that I can do that then it's left for me to believe as well.

I steadied the sweater that was wrapped around my neck as I adjusted it to the perfect position for easy breathing.

Straightening my clothes, I thought of every possible place, the cup could be, making my way out of the mountains.

I got the valley that Damon and I knew by dawn.

It's going to be a new adventure and a wonderful one.
