Chapter 9 - Essay on the topic①

"At the end, I said... um... looking forward to meeting you at the Capital College. Is it appropriate to use polite language? Ah - you really have no idea how I used to communicate with that young Duke before?"

Writing a thesis is difficult and it can make me lose a lot of hair. It's also challenging to write letters to my supposed fiance, but luckily I have enough hair on my head right now, so losing a few strands isn't a big deal.

Lillian sat expressionless in front of the dressing table, contemplating how to reply to the letter while allowing the maids to dress her up like a doll. In a way, she felt like she was partaking in a Changing Clothes Game with these maids.

When she was just allowed to move freely in the room, she would change her clothes before every meal and redo her makeup after taking a nap. In total, most of her day was spent in front of the mirror. Although the frequency decreased after she protested, doing makeup every morning remained an unchangeable routine.

"The matter concerning the young Duke has always been something that Miss Lillian forbids us from getting involved in," Kate said with a cheerful smile as she adjusted the necklace on Lily's neck. It seems that Mrs. Pascal, the housekeeper, did not impose any severe punishment on her and Megan.

"Are there any books in here about the Academy I'm going to?" She reached out and gathered all the thick and thin books that Megan had brought back last night onto her lap. Last night, she asked Kate about the Academy, but Kate seemed to know very little about Capital College. After asking for a while, Lillian only found out that all the young nobles of the kingdom would attend school there.

She is very familiar with this. When it comes to stories, there always needs to be a stage that can gather various characters together, and school is one of the most classic and convenient settings. After Lillian learned about this setting, she couldn't sleep all night out of excitement because she knew that according to the routine, the real heiress would definitely enroll in school at the same time as the fake heiress. And in this magical world, the real heiress probably has some rare magical abilities that will sharply contrast with her own lack of skills as a fake aristocrat.

This means that she will soon meet the most important character for her! Recalling the plot development of the hundreds of cliche literature she had read, Lillian stayed up late until dawn before falling asleep in a daze. This body clearly lacked experience staying up late, as she started coughing after waking up from a long sleep, only slightly improving after drinking a new-tasting potion.

So, who has the patience to reply to the diplomatic rhetoric sent by that young duke? Anyway, there is more than a 90% chance that she won't end up being his wife, right? Lillian looked longingly at the book in her arms. Instead of writing back, she would rather read these books. She was thrilled when Megan brought them back yesterday.

Previously, she had thought about finding some books in this world to read and gain a better understanding of the settings. However, when she woke up, there were no books like picture books in the room. It seemed that the previous Lillian rarely touched pen and paper except for writing letters to the young duke. Moreover, she detested everything related to magic. In order not to appear too different from before, she did not make this request.

These books, judging by their covers, should contain basic knowledge about magic. There is also one with a map on the cover, which might describe the geography of this world. Lillian didn't know if she had been idle for too long, but as she looked at these books, she felt a familiar sense of returning to her scientific research work and a desire for new knowledge.

"Sorry, miss. We haven't read any books about magic, so we can't answer your question." Megan noticed Lillian was getting distracted again and gently reminded her as she put down her feather pen, "Your letter isn't finished yet. Would you like to take a break?"

Lilian took a deep breath and thumped her head on the dressing table with a loud sound. Amidst Kate's screams, she swiftly raised one hand to assure that she was okay; she simply wanted to let off some steam for having ended up in such circumstances!

The most frustrating thing is that she has no idea what the writing style of the previous Lillian was like. Rushing to read through that pile of replies, she only felt like this girl was asking every day, 'I bought this, do you think it looks good?' 'I bought that, do you think it looks good?' and getting responses like 'Hmm, it looks good' for everything. She even went to confirm with Megan that the magic here currently doesn't support multimedia messages or have a camera.

"Is there a position in our Marquis household, I mean, My household, specifically for an artist to paint portraits of me? Following the principle that the happiness of wealthy individuals exceeds one's imagination." Lillian asked Megan.

"No, miss, do you need it?" Megan asked immediately.

"No, no, no, no!" Lillian quickly waved her hand and left behind a blur. "Okay, I understand."

So what were these two people talking about? Lillian felt overwhelmed. Does she have to use plain words to describe what dress she wore and what jewelry she bought all day long? And after describing it, does she have to shamelessly ask the other person if they think it looks good or not? Just thinking about such things makes her feel embarrassed and want to travel back in time.

.....

When Lillian was struggling to write a reply to her fiance in the northern city of Renoirca, a regiment of well-organized cavalry was marching along the southern border coastline of Senoka. The ocean-scented breeze brushed against everyone's faces, and the sunlight shimmered on the occasional ripples of the sea surface.

A civilian fishing boat slowly sailed by not far away, and the fishermen on board recognized the vibrant blue flag flying on the shore. They respectfully greeted the young man riding at the forefront of the group on horseback with a Senoka's hat-off gesture.

This is Young Duke Christopher's third summer tour, and he is already very familiar with it. The atmosphere in the procession has visibly relaxed compared to when they first set off. This year's summer tour is coming to an end.

The kingdom is known for the saying "Summer patrols in Senoka, winter patrols in Renoirca." For the knights of Senoka, the end of summer patrol signifies that the most challenging task of the year has been completed. At this stage, there has been a subtle change in the focus of summer patrol. Christopher Lancelot, riding on his horse, smiles at all the commoners who are sending blessings and respect to the knight's team from afar.

Although everyone in the Knight Order can directly return to the Duke's mansion to prepare for reporting back to the royal family, they still insist on completing this performance. This is not a waste of time; it is the most efficient way to gain public support. Even the most esteemed individuals under this sky need to temporarily humble themselves and play their part as actors on an endless stage of power.
