Chapter 1 - The Script of the Fake Heir①

This is the tenth day since she transformed into Lillian Whitman. For ten days, she hasn't even stepped out of her room. Now, it's already late in the morning and this woman who has been lazing around in bed lets out a yawn.

She confidently believed that she had fully understood the workings of this parallel world, as it strictly adhered to various cliched literary tropes.

Good news, she had read this book the night before she traveled here. This place is called 'Renoirca', and the lord who governs this place is named 'Whitman'. The kingdom is called the 'Princes Kingdom'. All these initial settings match perfectly.

Bad news, she randomly picked up this book around three or four in the morning when she was so tired that her eyes couldn't stay open. She read a bit of the beginning and thought it was okay, so she bookmarked it to continue reading tomorrow. Therefore, besides these few place names, she didn't leave any impression about what this book is called.

Good news, she has read quite a few trashy novels over the years. Based on her experience, she can tell that this is a fantasy novel with elements like titles of nobility and magic. The classification is clear. Anyway, these types of literature usually have similar plotlines such as a lost true lady, a found fake heiress, an aloof duke, a crown prince who kills at the drop of a hat, unrequited love, chasing and escaping but unable to fly away with wings attached...and so on. I'm not sure which specific book it is though; it doesn't seem to be important anyway.

Like all protagonists who travel to another world, the woman woke up pretending to have amnesia using the excuse of the poisoning incident she encountered as Lillian Whitman. She calmly listened to the words of her personal maid but couldn't help but internally mock the setting ten times over. When she heard that she had gone missing at a New Year's gathering in her territory when she was two years old and was only found by her master after several days, she couldn't resist slapping her thigh.

That's right, that's the feeling, that's the taste! You lost your daughter many years ago, and then you found another one to replace her, right? So now this Lillian is probably about 80-90% fake.

She adjusted her position on the pillow to make her neck more comfortable. It seemed that her body had not fully recovered from the poisoning, giving her a feeling of having neck problems from excessive computer and phone use during the day and night. Her eyes glanced at the two maids standing by the bed - the younger one looked innocent while the older one observed her with a cautious expression. It was interesting; perhaps everyone in this Marquis's mansion, from the master to the servants, knew that Lilian was a fake heiress but chose not to speak openly about it.

Her conjecture was soon confirmed. The direct evidence was that she found herself unable to use the magic gem lantern that only required a faint magical power to sense and emit light. This meant that not only did this body lack the Whitman family's signature ability to manipulate ice and water elements, but also her perception of all magical elements in this world was zero.

And through some simple manipulation of the maid Kate, she learned that magic in this world is mostly monopolized by the upper-class nobility. Only a very small number of commoners have the ability to use magic, and most of these rare individuals are eventually revealed to be descendants of lost noble bloodlines. She pondered that this setting was designed for the true female protagonist, while the fake heiress Liliana was undoubtedly a commoner.

The original Lillian must have been very concerned about this point. There were originally no devices in her room that required magical sensing to operate. The lantern was specifically requested by her from the maids. And when she repeatedly tested and confirmed her hypothesis, the maids in the room all had expressions of unease. It seemed as if they were prepared for Lillian to suddenly become enraged because she couldn't use such basic magical devices and throw the lantern at their heads.

"Am I still unable to go out?" She asks this polite question every day, and receives the expected answer of "Miss, your body has not fully recovered yet. The therapist says you need to continue resting."

Lillian yawns and comfortably goes back to sleep.

When she first arrived here, she was very curious about the world around her. After all, it's a world with magic - magic! Which child hasn't dreamed of receiving an acceptance letter from Hogwarts after watching Harry Potter? The world developed through magic and the world developed through technology have their differences. What stage of development is the social system in this country at? What is the daily life like for ordinary people and nobles?... Random ideas that come to mind feel like they could fill a lengthy essay.

The enthusiasm had not even ignited before it was extinguished by the endless bed rest instructions. After sleeping for a solid seven days, Lillian felt refreshed and rejuvenated, with her entire body radiating vitality from within.

There is no laboratory here that requires clocking in during the day, evening, and night. There are no rejection letters filled with euphemisms like 'your paper is actually research toilet paper.' There are no weekly progress reports that require fabricating attachments just to fill space. Everything is conveniently provided! Just call out and you'll have unlimited sessions of dedicated head and shoulder massages! You can even have all three meals served on your bed.

Research, what a joke. Lillian buried her face in a pillow softer than clouds. In her previous life, she had been hit by a speeding truck while crossing the road in a daze from staying up late to revise her paper. She couldn't help but wonder if there was something wrong with her brain when she thought about research, or if it was just the result of being hit by that truck.

However, this kind of life will definitely not last forever. Lillian understands that, after all, with her existence as a fake heiress, it means that there is a real heiress who may appear in this room at any time.

But Lillian, who has already been hit by a mud truck once, is now filled with a sense of relief that she has already experienced death here. Every day she lives is a gain: Life's joys should be enjoyed to the fullest, and when the boat reaches the bridge, it will naturally go straight.

Furthermore, it is certain that she and the real heiress will meet at a specific time point. She does not want to avoid it and strongly suspects that avoiding it would be futile. On the contrary, she is very curious about the character of the real heiress.

Anyway, there are only two types of plots that these diodes keep changing between: 'the fallen princess defeats the wicked supporting female lead and lives happily ever after with her true love' or 'the evil girl counterattacks and becomes a successful person, reaching the pinnacle of life.' After meeting the real heiress, she can accurately judge the future direction of this world - even if she is an actress, she wants to get a sneak peek at the script in advance.
