I got a call from Jason first thing in the morning. I had woken up at the crack of dawn to go for a run around my neighborhood. It helped to clear my head these days. I had returned home half an hour ago and was fixing myself a smoothie when my phone rang.
"Juniper," Jason stated simply. No pleasantries. No forced niceties.
"Please tell me you're calling me in regards to the contract." I pour my smoothie into a glass and took a sip.
He cleared his throat. "A courier is bringing it to you as we speak."
I exhaled a breath of relief. "I'll be expecting it."
I tried to hang up but it seemed like Jason wasn't quite done talking.
"The company has had to face a drastic decline in sales these last few weeks, Juniper. I don't think this is the best time for you to become a part of management."
"Did Orion ask you to say that?"
"Of course not," he spluttered, like a fish out of water. "I'm just worried about the company."
