Chapter 15 - New Personnel Secured

"Crentian Workers Party huh?" Herrmann repeated, recognizing the name. "That's the nationalist party based in Crentia that is sweeping across the nation."

"Woah…I'm glad that you know of our existence, it is truly a pleasure," Ernest said as he bowed.

"But I'm not interested in joining any political parties. A lot of it tried but failed," Herrman said.

"I understand your reservations, Herr Kessler, but hear me out. You're not just any pilot or soldier—you led a squadron during the most challenging times, intercepting as many allied aircraft as possible, showing unmatched courage and leadership. And when the orders came to surrender, you didn't just hand over your aircraft to the Allies. Instead, you and your squadron crash-landed them in Crentia. It was a bold statement to the government officials you felt betrayed by.

I understand the feeling. It wasn't the soldiers who fought the war that led to our defeat, instead, it was those backroom deals and political missteps that undermined our efforts on the frontlines. That's exactly what we're fighting against in the Crentian Workers' Party. You, with your history and respect among the veterans, could help us shift the public perspective and rally more support," Ernest continued.

Ernest needed Herrman just as he needed Steiner. Hermann is also a celebrity in the Empire of Crentis after receiving the highest honor for his bravery and skills during the war. Ernest hoped that Herrman's reputation could help legitimize the party's ambitions and attract more disciplined and influential figures, especially those deep-pocketed elites.

Herrman remained silent as if contemplating whether he'd join or not.

"I'm sure you want to see the Empire of Crentis revitalized. That's something that I will achieve if you join me in this cause. And together, we will take back what the coalition forces took from us, and we will punish them severely," Ernest added.

"Hmm…" Herrman hummed in thought.

Ernest knew that little by little, Herrman was leaning to his side. A few moments later, Herrman looked Ernest squarely in the eyes and nodded slightly. "I've seen too many leaders and parties promise change and fail. But you, you're different. You've got a clear vision and a realistic grasp of what's at stake. I'll join your cause."

Ernest's eyes lit up with the confirmation. "That's excellent news, Herr Kessler. I can assure you, you're making the right decision."

"Now, tell me," Herrman began, shifting forward in his seat with renewed interest, "what role do you envision for me within the Crentian Workers' Party?"

Ernest leaned back, his mind already clear on the position he intended for Herrman.

"Given your military expertise and your command experience, I would like you to lead our Security Force, which I've named the Storm Trooper. You'd be responsible for instilling discipline and organizing them into a formidable force. We face significant threats, particularly from the Red Front Fighters' League, who are equitariats. Your leadership would be pivotal in defending against that adversary."

Herrman listened intently, nodding as Ernest outlined the role.

"So I'll be the head of the security force of your paramilitary organization. Leading soldiers is one of my expertise so yes, I'm interested in taking that role. So where do we start?"

Ernest paused to drink his beer and then continued. "We'll take a train back to Crentia and there you'll meet the soldiers you will be handling. I'm thinking tomorrow morning would be best for us to depart. Once we arrive, we'll arrange a formal introduction and a briefing session for you to outline your expectations and the discipline protocols you'll establish."

Herrman nodded in agreement. "That sounds like a plan. I want to meet them as soon as possible, understand their current state, and start molding them into the force we need them to be."

"Excellent," Ernest replied. "Once you take charge, I believe we'll see a significant turnaround in behavior and effectiveness. I don't want them to become thugs that could negatively affect the image of the Crentian Workers' Party."

A day later, in Crentia. It was eight o'clock in the evening and Ernest was walking towards the Crentian Workers Party office ground. Walking next to him was Herrman who looked enthusiastic and eager to see what he was promised by Ernest.

Along the way, they encountered Steiner.

"Herr Teucher, I see that you have successfully brought Herr Kressler into the party," Steiner greeted with a smile and glanced at Herrmann.

"Herr Kressler, meet General Steiner of the Crentian Army. He is part of the party and the one responsible for supplying the soldiers with weapons, and supplies, and securing the army training ground."

Herrmann exchanged looks with Steiner and smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you, General. I've heard about your contributions and the significant role you've played in arming and preparing our forces."

Steiner nodded, appreciating the recognition. "The pleasure is mine, Herr Kessler. Your reputation precedes you. I look forward to seeing how you will shape our security force."

Ernest, observing the exchange, felt a sense of satisfaction. Bringing these two powerful figures together was a crucial step in strengthening the party's military capabilities.

"As we discussed, Herr Kessler, tonight you'll get a chance to see firsthand the men you'll be leading. They're eager to meet you," Ernest said, leading the way toward the large training ground where the members of the Storm Trooper were gathered.

Upon arrival, the soldiers stood in formation, their attention fixed on Herrmann as he approached. Then, they exclaimed and gasped.

"Is that Herrman von Klessler? The war hero?" one of the younger soldiers whispered loudly to his companion, his eyes wide with awe.

"Yes, it is," another confirmed. "He's the one who led the aerial charge against the Allies and refused to surrender his squadron. They say he's a legend!"

Herrmann, hearing the murmurs, offered a slight nod and a firm look that immediately commanded respect. They climb up the stairs where they'll stand on an erected platform.

Ernest stepped forward and addressed the soldiers. "Settle down, I have an announcement to make."

The soldiers quieted and Ernest began. "Today you will be under new command, one that I believe will forge you into the disciplined and formidable force we aim to be. I present to you Herrmann von Kressler, a war hero and a man of great honor and courage. He will be taking over as the head of our Security Force, the Storm Trooper."

The soldiers straightened up, some nodding, others exchanging impressed glances. Herrmann stepped forward and waved his hand.
