Garette couldn't believe his luck. He had expected Arette to question his explanation further, to challenge him to provide more information. But it seemed like she had actually bought his story, hook, line, and sinker.
Thankfully, Dominic and Dominique appeared, descending the stairs, the sound of their footsteps echoing. As they reached the bottom, Dominique moved to where Garette was and turned to the nearby maid.
"What's for dinner tonight?" she asked. The maid, who had been waiting dutifully off to the side, replied with a smile. "The kitchen staff has prepared a lovely spread for dinner tonight. Appetisers include stuffed mushrooms, mini quiches, and crudités with dipping sauces. The main course will be a choice of steak, salmon, or a vegetarian option."
Pleased with the answer, Dominique nodded at the maid and turned her attention back to Garette. "Sounds like a great spread."
