A week after the miscarriage, Arette was back at Dominic's mansion. She completely locked herself up, refusing to speak, eat, or see anybody for two days, locking her door. Surprisingly, Dominic told Mrs. Wolfe and the maids to let her be. How he felt exactly about his actions towards Arette was unclear even to him. He couldn't tell if he was sorry or not, if he meant to hurt her or not. This inability to decipher his own emotions was distressing. The side effects of the injection were overwhelming, but one thing he knew for certain was that he needed to stay strong and get through it.
Dominic's condition seemed like a form of emotional blunting or ambivalence, where he couldn't clearly interpret or feel his emotions. This worried him a lot, prompting him to call Dr. Grant and book an appointment. Dominic hated going to hospitals alone, so he called Matthew to accompany him.
