Chereads / Accelerator Vampire / Chapter 20 - 20. Fire

Chapter 20 - 20. Fire

The first light of dawn begins to appear on the eastern horizon in shades of gold and crimson. As day breaks, a broad-shouldered, powerful man is busy chopping wood in the garden. His eyes, while watching the sunrise off to one side, are also intently focused on the wood.

His muscular arms bring the axe down forcefully with each stroke, splitting the wood with a crack. Beads of sweat form on the man's forehead, evaporating easily in the cool morning air. His old, worn-out shirt clings to his back from the effort.

Around the garden, flowers and grass slowly awaken with the first touches of sunlight. Birds chirp in the branches of the trees, creating a melody of nature's awakening.

With every step you take, you breathe in the fresh scent of spring. As the sound of splitting wood fills the morning silence, the rhythm of his movements seems to harmonize with nature's awakening.

A small pile of wood has accumulated at the man's feet, with each broken piece neatly arranged beside it.

With a calm and focused expression, he picks up another piece of wood and places it on top of the log, then brings the axe down again with a strong stroke. Determination and peace shine in his eyes with the first light of dawn.

John takes off his damp shirt and continues to chop wood. As the sunlight hits his muscular body, his skin turns golden. Beads of sweat dripped from his muscular arms to the ground. With each log he chopped, John felt the peace of nature in the morning silence.

Meanwhile, in the office, Felix and Maxwell were busy with paperwork. Between the piles of documents, they tried to organize the scattered papers on the desk. Both wore concentrated expressions, sometimes giving each other quick instructions, sometimes lost in deep thought.

Axel, on the other hand, had gone to the police station early in the morning to give a statement. After parking his car in front of the station, he entered. A young policeman greeted him and directed him to the statement room.

"Mr. Blackwood, the RV with the *** license plate appears to be yours," the officer said, a hint of envy in his eyes. Axel's attractive appearance and confident demeanor impressed the young officer.

Axel nodded confidently. "Yes, it's mine. What's going on?"

"Your vehicle was seen near the scene of an incident about a week ago. Can you explain what you were doing in that area?" The policeman listened carefully to Axel's explanation, keeping his eyes on him. Axel took a deep breath and began to speak clearly.

"I was traveling for a while. I had to take this road to get to the city where I live." Axel said. "If detailed information is needed, I can provide proof."

The policeman quickly scribbled something in his notebook and then looked up. "I understand, Mr. Blackwood. We may need to contact you again to verify this information if necessary."

Axel nodded confidently. "Of course, you can contact me at any time. I'm happy to cooperate."

After taking down Axel's words, the police officer indicated that the statement was over. Axel left the station and headed home.

John was still out in the yard chopping wood. As Axel parked in front of the house and got out of the car, he noticed John's strong and rhythmic movements.

Axel walked over to the yard and called out to John. "Even at this hour of the morning, you're full of energy, John."

John, after splitting another log with the axe, turned to Axel and smiled. "The day starts early, Axel. It's the best time to get things done."

Axel approached John and looked at the piles of wood on the ground. "Let me give you a hand," he said, picking up a piece of wood and placing it on the log.

Meanwhile, inside, Felix and Maxwell were discussing paperwork. Maxwell, closing a file, turned to Felix. "It would be nice to get some fresh air after we finish these tasks."

Felix nodded in agreement. "Sure, the fresh air and sounds of nature would be refreshing."

As they stepped outside, they greeted Axel and John.

Maxwell, putting another piece of wood on the log, asked, "How did it go at the police station, Axel?"

Axel, continuing to chop wood, began to explain. "I just made a routine statement. My vehicle was seen near the scene of an incident, so they asked a few questions. But everything's fine, no problem."

Felix nodded as he listened to Axel's words. "Glad to hear that everything is okay. Sometimes bureaucratic things can be annoying."

Maxwell, splitting another piece of wood with a strong stroke, added, "How about having a nice breakfast together afterwards? It'll recharge us."

John smiled as he neatly stacked the wood. "Great idea. We can continue our work with more energy after breakfast."

John prepared his breakfast while the vampires drank from the blood bags Axel had brought. Their red eyes were hidden by the glasses they wore.

As John took a sausage from the plate with his fork, he turned to Axel, who was sitting next to him. "What are you going to do after breakfast, Axel?" he asked.

Axel took a sip of his coffee and answered. "I'm going to rest a bit. This morning's testimony was a little exhausting. Then maybe I'll go into town and take care of a few things."

John nodded in agreement. "Good idea. The weather in town will be very nice today."

Felix and Maxwell talked quietly as they drank from their blood bags. John smiled at them. "What are you doing after breakfast?"

Maxwell finished a blood bag and took a deep breath. "We're thinking about going out for a while. A little fresh air is always good. Then we'll finish the remaining tasks."

Felix nodded in agreement. "Yes, sometimes going out and listening to the sounds of nature combined with fresh blood is quite relaxing."

As breakfast drew to a close, everyone thought about what to do for the rest of the day. John got up to go back to chopping wood. "The work is almost done, then I'll take a rest."

Axel also smiled as he cleared away the plates. "Then I'll help before I go to town."

Just then, the sound of a horse-drawn carriage was heard speeding down the path in front of the house. Everyone turned to see what was happening. A woman got out of the carriage and ran quickly into the yard. Her face was pale, her eyes filled with worry.

"You must help!" the woman cried, panting. "There's a fire in town, the fire department can't get here, everyone needs help."

John, Axel, Felix, and Maxwell immediately stood up. John quickly approached the woman to understand the situation. "What exactly happened? Where did the fire start?"

Tears welled in the woman's eyes as she answered. "On the east side of town, several homes and businesses are on fire. People are trying to put out the fire, but it's not enough."

John turned to Axel with a determined look on his face. "We have to go right away. We can help with the fire."

Axel nodded in agreement. "Okay, let's go right now."

Felix quickly got ready. But Maxwell hesitated, taking a step back and expressing his doubts with a hesitant expression. "Maybe we shouldn't go. Fighting fires isn't our job, people might look at us strangely. Besides, we should be discreet."

John looked into Maxwell's eyes, his determination and sincerity evident. "Maxwell, this is our home too. If the fire continues to spread, it could reach the forest and our farm."

Seeing John's determination, Maxwell took a deep breath and nodded in agreement. "Okay, you're right. Let's help."

The team quickly left the house, got into the carriage, and headed for town. On the way, they all had the same thought in their minds: how could they help the people in the city?

When they arrived in the city, the extent of the fire became clear. Flames were rising into the sky and clouds of smoke were covering everything. People panicked, carrying buckets of water and trying to put out the fire. John and his friends immediately went to work, coordinating efforts to carry water and help control the fire.

John, with his strong arms, carried buckets of water to the most intense parts of the fire. Axel and Felix helped people carry water quickly, trying to keep the fire from spreading. Maxwell, overcoming his initial reluctance, began to help people fight the fire.

After hours of intense effort, the fire was finally brought under control. John, Axel, Felix, and Maxwell, tired but equally proud, saw that a major disaster had been averted. Each had shown courage and determination. But their work was not done.

To understand the cause of the fire, the team began investigating various areas of the city. First, they went to the police station and examined the scene of the fire. Then they talked to some of the old residents of the town to learn about past events.

During these investigations, a rumor had spread through the town. Some people claimed that a curse from the town's dark past was behind the fire. The curse manifested itself as fires breaking out unexpectedly at odd times.

While arson was suspected, the sudden appearance of flames in the town square led everyone to believe it was cursed. Supposedly, after a ritual performed by a priest, the town's troubles ceased.
