In the end, Jason barely slept for two hours. He suddenly opened his eyes when he felt some presence approaching. His bow was already in his hands, and he slept with it that way to react quickly. Regardless, it was amazing that Perception could be that useful while he was sleeping.
The presences were different from monsters, so Jason didn't hesitate to leave the house with an arrow nocked. He was alson't surprised to see a small family of three near the house's yard: a man, his wife,, and a boy are around five years old. They were almost wearing their pajamas since the world had changed when it was only seven a.m. on a Sunday.
"What do you want?" Jason asked, his arrow still nocked and ready to be fired.
"... I want to check our house," The man said after gulping.
"Oh… sorry about that," Jason lowered the bow a bit. "You may proceed. Don't mind the mess around."
Jason left the area as soon as those three entered the house. They kept their eyes on him, but they relaxed when Jason turned around. He didn't want to become infamous for stealing food, so that was his best option.
"Two hours of sleep isn't optimal, but perhaps this is for the best," Jason thought. "There must be a dungeon nearby, but I want to head to my house first to get a few things. It is time to start thinking about the long term… monsters aren't going anywhere, so I will have to get used to this life as soon as possible, and for that to happen, I need a lot of things."
Building a camp somewhere else where Jason would find food and water would be nice. A lake would probably be the best option, but he wondered if it would be easy to fish now. The words lake and world of monsters didn't mix well at all, after all.
Before leaving the area, Jason checked some garages for bikes, but he didn't find a single one. The people who could use them to escape used them; that was the reason he didn't find them. Ordinary cars wouldn't cross those hills, and Jason only found ordinary cars there. Fortunately, Jason saw a cloak in one of the garages. He smiled in satisfaction since the rain was starting to get stronger, but then the smell coming from the house made him groan… when he looked to the side, Jason found a massive pile of blood on the door and a smashed arm.
"The humidity and the rain are preventing the smell from spreading, but soon enough, things will get nasty…" Jason thought. "Most monsters are killing because they are territorial creatures… I wonder if things will improve or get worse if I find monsters that actually want to eat humans."
The answer was probably no… Regardless, Jason felt that he would feel even more pleasure in killing those that truly wanted to eat him.
After covering himself with the cloak, Jason looked around and found a tool suitcase. It was the type that most people nowadays don't have, but it might be helpful to when Jason began to use his Mad Blacksmith skills, so he decided to carry it with him.
"Not even bicycles, huh. One would really come in handy, bow," Jason thought while he was leaving the area by running.
In that place with the green hills, heavy rain poured down. The sky was gray, and the rain kept falling without pause. The rain made the hills look like flowing rivers. The sound of rain hitting the ground was loud and steady. It felt like nature was crying, expressing its power.
The rushing water carves paths down the slopes, washing away debris. Small animals seek shelter from the rain, and the air smells fresh with the earthy scent of wet soil. The rain creates a misty atmosphere, making it hard to see far. It feels like the world is wrapped in water.
Despite the heavy rain, the green hills stand strong. The rain nourished the plants, making the green even brighter. In that scene, nature showed its strength and beauty. It reminds Jason of the power of water and how it can transform the peaceful into the dramatic.
"The world seems like it's ending, but I guess only human society actually is…" Jason thought. "Now that I think about it, I have no attachment to this society… I am only fighting because it is fun, and the only thing I can lose is my life… how fitting."
After running for two hours in that crazy downpour, Jason finally found some other traces of civilization ahead. When he reached the top of another hill, he found some tall buildings ahead, and they seemed inclined… like they were about to fall. At the same time, Jason saw some shadows in the distance surrounding the place.
"Did I hear a gunshot? This downpour is muffling the sound of everything around…" Jason thought when he tried to focus his senses on the area ahead.
Jason could only do so much with his senses in that downpour, even if he had a high perception. The heavy rain almost felt like a curtain, making him unable to see in the area… things will get harder at night since it tends to get misty after the rain.
"I guess I won't be able to use my bow tonight…" Jason thought and then resumed his run toward the next part of the city. I guess after finding two more pieces of my hometown, I will find my home… if they destroy it or whoever destroys my house, I will make sure that their bloodline ends right here."
