Her house was quite nice. I couldn't complain because I had no choice.A thousand dollar wasn't enough to get an apartment and take care of myself at the same time. The garage was another altogether. I couldn't stay in this disoriented stuffed room, no way. I think she kind of got my expression, so she suggested I sleep on the sofa for the night. I immediately made myself comfortable. Minutes later I was deep in slumber. I woke up the next morning covered with a blanket and to the scent of poached eggs. "Good morning Charles" she greeted. I responded with a nod. "Okay, your breakfast is in the kitchen. There are some snacks in the fridge and at noon the cleaning lady will come and arrange the garage for you. Okay. I'm off to work now okay. I'll be out late so please do make yourself comfortable."
She left promptly afterwards. The room was clearly in order, everything arranged according to either color or size. There were basically flowers everywhere, from roses to lilies, sunflowers and many more that I couldn't figure out their names. There weren't pictures in the house just a few. One was a family photo, not that I knew but there the word FAMILY written beneath the picture. It was hanged under a large fire place. Another was a picture of her graduation. I never knew that this little stranger would be so accomplished and had graduated from Harvard and knew how to cook; there was a picture her success in a cooking competition.
I used the rest of the day to check up on my casino and other businesses, especially to see if that no good cousin of mine was plotting something (of which I knew he was). My current account was thousand dollars nothing more and nothing less.
The cleaning lady came and did as Lori said she would. I watched as she worked, packed and arranged everything so perfectly, and I wondered how someone could do such a job with a smile on their face. "ma'am, are you enjoying what you're doing? I mean there's nothing to be happy about." I asked when I couldn't take what she was doing anymore. "Yes you're right, there isn't anything to be happy about, but you should know that not everybody is meant to be at the top. We just learn to be content with we have. Like I have." She responded. "Just like that ?" I asked. "Just like that" she replied and continued cleaning. I went to the living room to check on some messages on my phone and I saw one message from an unknown number. I clicked on it and it read 'how is your broke life going dear cousin'. Darn that cousin of mine, why does he always find ways and means to piss me off. "Urgh", I groaned. I threw the phone in the other sofa and lied in the biggest sofa. I had drifted back to sleep again. I think it was the side effect of the drug I took.
I was awakened by the chattering of two ladies. "Lori girl, how did you manage to get a handsome looking young man in your living room, huh?" the other lady said. "Stop joking around Sam, I'm just lucky he's not suing me for reckless driving. He doesn't any family, or a girlfriend or wife plus he is new here and doesn't have a job or a place to stay. Letting he stay with me is the least I could do, don't you think? And stop giving me that look because there is no way your thoughts are coming to pass because I have a boyfriend remember?" Lori said when she saw the smirk on Sam's face. "I have a boyfriend for crying out loud and I love him so quit it okay. Plus he's only going to be staying until he's settled." Lori concluded.
A week later I had fully recovered. I was now ready to go job hunting, something I've never dreamt of in my entire life. Lori was very hospitable. Within a week I'd learnt a lot about her. She had a boyfriend whom I hadn't met yet and the ideology didn't sound well with me for some reason but never mind.
Just before I could leave the house I got a call from Samantha, Lori's best friend AKA Sam saying that she had found a job for me. She texted me the address and told me to keep it secret. I was off for my job interview, for the first time in my life. How ironic right?
