Damn, the sun is still up. Only a few hours until sundown. So what am I going to do?
Maybe I could come over to the adventurers shop again, and buy some things?
No, I'm pretty sure I have enough items right now. Plus, I really don't feel like I need it anymore.
Maybe I can hang out at the Office? Nah…
There is only one more answer.
Library. That's the only thing that can kill time. Reading.
Back then when I'm still a high school nerd, I would do anything to touch a book. I have this magic ability to only read once and memorize it for the rest of my life. I thought it was a normal thing, but other people made it seem crazy. The only person who can match and defeat my genius is my best friend as well as my greatest enemy, Ren.
I went to the library. It's not quite far from the church since it's near the north west junction. Oh dear, I have to meet the old lady again.
"Oh, you again."
"Hello, old lady. I am here to read."
"Don't need to show me your ugly adventurer card. Just go."
Grumpy old sh-
I went to the back holding my pissed off expression, trying hard not to show it to the people at the library.
I have been to the library a bunch of times already in the past month. I have seen the second floor's books, as well as the third floor. So right now, I'm just strolling on the first floor again.
I picked up a few books about diseases, and a book about magic.
The book about diseases basically listed every single disease that has been known. It shows all the details regarding the spoken disease. Like when it was first found, or the cause, as well as steps to heal it. Most of the diseases shown can be healed using healing magic, but still requires an operation. And there are a few that don't have a way to heal.
A lot of sickness written in the book is actually new to me. Like some I recognized from my world, such as leukemia or cancer. But there are some that I didn't know of, like the sickness related to magic.
The book really does explain in detail. I mean, it was crazy thick. But I read the whole book in just three hours. After reading, my head felt tired. I wish I could continue reading at the Inn. But I can't take the book home. Wait, can I?
"Hello, madam. May I ask whether I can borrow the book outside?"
"Give me your adventurer card."
"Pardon?"
"I'm going to copy it. Just give it!"
"O-Okay."
I gave her my adventurer card. The old lady touches it in disgust, then puts it down on a piece of glass. Then, the glass glowed bright. Oh… that's a magic crystal.
"Here you go. Return it no later than a week. Or else I'm going to track you to your cozy little Office on the south-east main road."
"Oh… Okay."
I left the Library with a book in my hand. A book about magic.
Whew, I can't wait to read it. Using magic today was pretty cool. I wonder if I can do other magic.
It's already sundown outside, so better grab some food. I can order it on the go. That way I can eat it at the Inn.
I went for the usual stuff I ordered on the go. The cooked chicken. It's the only food that can still taste good after being left for hours. Plus, it's the only food I am familiar with. After receiving the food, I paid the chef and went back to the Inn.
Today is the 13th of Liosi. The healing act will start on the 17th. I guess I can still do some missions before the day of the healing act. I wonder what kind of sickness I will encounter.
I entered my room. It's just like usual. Dirty clothes on top of the chair, bras and underwear below it. The unsettled bed, and a table full of... Stuff. Thank god for the magic ring, otherwise this room would see a whole new level of mess.
I put down the book on top of the table, to read later. Then I prepared my meal. I bought a plate and a spoon just in case I want to eat in my room or on the go. I put them in my space ring so I can use it anywhere.
I wonder how much space the ring can withstand. I'm just afraid it will get lost inside this thing and unable to get taken. Normally I would be able to check what's in it by pouring energy. So I thought this thing should be fine for a few more months.
I lie on the bed with my back on the wall. With this position, I have my plate on my right, while the book on my legs. The usual position I always used in the old days.
I opened the book. And wow, does everything look magical.
Each paper had their own designs, which makes the book more interesting. They really should do this for every textbook at every school back in my world. The books would be read ten times more.
I started reading from the front.
Magic was divided into three. Destruction, Restoration, and Creation.
The destruction magic is the magic that causes damage or destruction. For example, fire magic, lightning magic, etc.
The restoration magic is the magic that restores a damaged object. For example, healing magic, timeless magic, etc.
Creation magic is the magic that creates. For example, conjuration magic, illusion magic, etc.
A single magic has multiple tiers, based on their strength and also danger level.
The lowest, Beginner. The first tier. You need to learn the Beginner tier before advancing to the next tier.
The second, Intermediate tier. Spells are more dangerous and powerful than the beginner.
The third, Knight tier. Spells from the magic usually create a new form in this tier. But if the user wasn't a talented one, the new form could also just be created after obtaining the next tier.
The fourth, King tier. If the user hasn't obtained a new form on the Knight tier, then they will obtain it in the King tier. The King tier is normally known to be rare and very powerful. Only powerful magicians were able to get this tier.
The fifth, Emperor tier. Once a user is able to obtain this tier, they will get treated like kings. The destructive power a destruction magic has can destroy a whole kingdom with one attack.
The sixth and final tier, the God tier.
Back then, there was an old saint who obtained the God tier restoration magic. It was said that they used the power to restore an entire kingdom that was wiped out from existence by an Emperor tier magic.
Even the dead people are back to life. Nobody knows the destructive power that a God tier destruction magic can have. But just from seeing the power of a God tier restoration magic, no one should be surprised if it can destroy a whole continent.
After reading, I correlated the new knowledge I got with my healing magic.
"So right now, I am a Beginner tier at healing magic? Is that how this works?"
I kept on reading. I finally arrived at the specific magic elements.
The destruction magic usually comes in elements. Like fire, water, ice, earth, lighting, wind, shadow, or light. Every element has its own tiers. A single person normally can only learn one. But most of the students at the Magic Academy of Xyphon, have two or three.
Oh yeah, this book was from the Magic Academy. I would be surprised if this weren't. Everything was explained in such detail.
The restoration magic doesn't come in elements, but it was divided by the type of things that they restored. Healing magic restores anything as long as it's a living body. Time magic restores anything as long as it's not a living being.
The creation magic was divided into three. The creation magic that creates magical elements, like conjuration or illusion. The creation magic that creates physical elements, like earth, water, or anything that can be seen and touched. The third creation magic is called the forbidden magic. It was a magic that has the ability to create life itself. This magic is forbidden.
Woah. A magic to create life...
I feel like I'm missing something.
I skipped the rest of the book about elements, and stuff. All the way to the forbidden magic.
The forbidden magic is a magic that can create life. It can create a whole new living body from a dead one, as well pouring the soul in it. They have the ability to bring back the dead, as well as creating a new soul.'
There!
That's it!
Why did I come here? Why did I suddenly get brought here? How did I come back to life? And why here?
One of my questions has finally been answered. The 'how' I came here.
I was resurrected here, using the forbidden magic.
That would explain it. I died in that world, then resurrected in this world. Using this forbidden magic, the guy who resurrected me created this body using my old dead body and inserted my soul. That would explain how I end up in this body.
Then that also means... This body is actually... mine.
Bah, I still can't accept it. How can you put me in a girl's body, dude. Not fucking cool.
Having found an answer, I formed a grin. I finally found something, a clue. This one month wasn't for nothing after all.
I really want to find out more. So I kept reading.
.
I stopped reading about two hours later. There are no more clues regarding my death and resurrection. It's all only about magic, tiers, and other shit I don't need. I have to find the magic that can take me to my world. I have to.
Then I realized how dizzy I am from reading. This is the same habit I had in the old world. I always get dizzy after reading just a little bit, while other people can read for like five plus hours. I guess this is my body after all.
I looked to my right, and saw the plate where my already eaten food is located, is now upside down.
"Damn it!"
I picked up the plate, as well as the bones of the chicken. There is a huge chunk of sauce on the bed. I simply glared at it before glaring to the sky and...
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh..."
Why is this happening...
That night, I slept on the floor using the portable bed I had in the space ring. The portable bed I bought for adventures.
The next morning, I woke up, got changed, then went to the receptionist to report.
The receptionist knew me already. I stayed here for more than a month after all. The receptionist said I could just change rooms. I replied happily. He gave me the key to the room next door.
But I have to clean up my room and move next door, huh? Damn. All that because of a single sauce on the bed.
I put all my dirty clothes I haven't washed yet inside the huge bag for clothes. I put the book on top of the bag as I lift it up and move it. I went back and forth between rooms, transferring items. And suddenly, there were no more items in the previous room. I checked the bed, the table, the wardrobe, and the bathroom. Okay all good.
Then I left the door open and went to my second room.
The room smelled so good. As expected from a new room.
I remembered I hadn't taken a shower, so I grabbed my clean set of adventurer clothes (I have four of those now, all with the same colours) and then went to the bathroom.
After the bath, I grabbed what I needed and went to the Office.
Time to waste some time until the healing session.
.
.
.
So I have done the missions, I did the laundry, and I just finished lunch. Now it's time to heal people.
Four days have passed. At this point, a single day in this world is just another number.
Today is the day of the healing act. A number of people are standing in front of the church, waiting for their turn.
A Nun lady was guarding in the front, to make sure people lined up. She saw me as I approached her.
"Ah, you must be the new guest healer. Please, go through the backdoor."
"Where is the back door?"
She pointed at the small alley right next to the church.
"Okay, thanks."
"No problem! The session will start in a bit."
I left her and walked to the back.
The alley is quite narrow. But at least two people can still walk side to side. At the end of the alley is the park from the back of the church. Woah, it leads here.
The nuns are gathering at the park. I guess some kind of small briefing. I walked inside the park through the steps at the side. One of the younger nuns saw me walking in. It was Khel.
"Ah, Rize, right? Come, hurry. It's going to start."
She saw me and called immediately. Then I followed her all the way to the basement, underground. She went into her room and grabbed something. When she came out, she gave that stuff to me. It's a Nun attire.
"Wear it."
"Eh??"
Obviously, I don't want to be a nun.
"Well, you can't show up in front of those people in everyday outfits! You have to wear something formal. It's okay, you won't be a permanent nun!"
"Eh... Okay."
I took the outfit from her hands and used her room to change. She left and went back upstairs. I guess it's going to start.
After changing into the nun attire, I went back up to the park. But nobody is here. So I checked the front.
"Woah..."
The whole church seemed crowded. Everyone was lining up in front of the door, and one by one entered. There are seven pairs of nuns that are working, so it will be seven at a time.
"Rize! Come here!"
Khel was calling me from one of the chairs. She is alone with a bald old man. He is wearing your everyday attire, but it was dirty. I guess he is from the lower side. I approached her. Looks like I'm paired with Khel for this session.
"So? What do we have?"
"This is Mister Bayne. He said he has the flu."
"Oh..."
Flu, huh?
"It's okay, Mister Bayne. Your sickness will be gone soon."
"Uhm."
I recalled what I did at the park.
I lifted my right hand, and created a line. Then with my left hand, I created a ball of light and connected it to the line.
"Your hand, please."
The old man lifted his hand. It's full of bruises.
"Hmm? Why is it full of bruises?"
"Rize! Don't ask questions!"
"Eh? Ah, right."
I connected the line to his hands, and pushed the ball of light into his body. I created six balls in total, and let it flow within his body.
"Ugh..."
The old man's body started glowing. It's because the magic is working.
I focused my energy inside his blood stream. I can feel it destroying the sickness, eating it, and dissipating it. After ten seconds, I let the energy away. His body stopped glowing.
"You are fine now."
"Wha... That fast?"
"Rize, are you sure?"
Both the old man and Khel were confused. But I'm very sure I destroyed all the virus in his bloodstream.
"Yeah, I'm sure."
But the old man wasn't.
"Are you very sure? Normally healing would take much longer than this!"
"Uhm, sir, please calm down. This young missy is still new. But she-"
"What?? You put me with a newbie?!?"
The whole church looked at us. The healing sessions of the others are still going, but their concentration was split in half.
"You really think my sickness is a joke!?!?"
"Hey. Stop being a pain. Look at your hand."
I told him to look at his hand. The bruises where it is located are no longer there. I healed it.
"Wha... How...?"
"I am the healer here. If you don't believe me, why don't you go to the doctor? Now if you would stop being an asshole and leave, I won't have to use force. Or do you want me to add some extra wounds?"
I summoned my sword to my left hand.
"Hiii--! Ok, I'm leaving!"
The old man quickly left the church. I stored the sword back in the ring. The Nun at the door quickly let the next person enter.
"Rize..."
"Guys like that shouldn't even deserve healing."
"Yes, but it is our duty to heal. Not to see who is right or wrong. We leave that to the gods."
"Hmm."
Khel... You and I have a very different sense of justice.
The next person came to our station. It's a young lady.
"Hello Miss. Come sit. What's your name?"
"Jenny."
"Okay, Jenny, what is your issue?"
She took out her left hand that was closed by a bandage. It's a wound. A very large wound.
"Wha..."
Khel was lost for words.
"How did this happen?"
I quickly created a ball of light and healed her wound.
"A dog bit me. It was... painful."
You don't say. This was not a bite. It's like the hand got chomped out.
The healing took only fifteen seconds. This is a big wound, so it took a long time.
"Wha... So fast?"
"Rize? How is it so quick?"
"I used six balls. Six outputs. So... Seven times faster? If you count my hand."
"Oh..."
"Thank you madam!"
The young lady hugged me.
"Oh, uh... Sure. No problem."
Damn, don't just hug me--Why are you smiling Khel!?
The girl then left the church. Another person came in.
Meanwhile on the outside, the people are chatting to one another.
"Huh? Why is it so fast?"
"Normally one would take very long to heal. She just came in, how come she is already fine?"
"Maybe, it was a small wound?"
"Hmm, maybe. Or they just have a very good healing Nun."
"Hmm, you could be right."
From that day, the church has found a new powerful healer. The people of Mazino started to spread the rumours about her, and the stories spread like wildfires.
They called her 'The Saint Healer'.
