Chapter 21 - Three Demons In My Bedroom

MSG – Volume 1 – Chapter 21

He was about to continue his reading when he was suddenly interrupted by the glaring feeling of a change in his surroundings.

Looking up, he saw a black circle increasing in size to a size that could accommodate human-sized beings and things.

No one had stepped out yet but he knew what was to come.

It was time for a section of his memory to be audited… again.

.

It wouldn't be the first time that Solon would be having his memory perused by someone but he still felt a bit uncomfortable about the whole thing; even if he could restrict what could be seen and what could not.

The only thing he could not do was alter the memories.

It was like letting someone into your home but locking certain rooms so they cannot access them.

The first time he was in such a situation was right after had been saved by Astraea and was floating above a settlement of demons (vampires, skeletons, werewolves, etc.) and the twins had shown up alongside Astraea who they had believed was taking them to meet their companion.

There was an argument on whether he had consciously suppressed or destroyed the twins' companion's soul to take over his body and so, back then, to settle the argument the Night Goddess had suggested a memory scan.

Sure enough, he was freaked out.

Scan his memories? There was nothing particular that he had to hide but... No way!

Alarm bells went off in his mind the moment Astraea suggested it. Who would feel comfortable with such a notion?

He only started to consider it when she explained and assured him of how he could limit what 'timeframes' could not be seen.

The twins seemed to be unsatisfied with the fact that he would be able to hide certain parts of his memory, citing that he would decide to hide decisive evidence.

Astraea in response explained that the frames of his memory that would be left accessible would be 100% complete—with what all his senses captured and his thoughts.

So, if he had done anything negative to the Solon they knew and loved on purpose, it would be exposed.

It was then that the twins relented and spectated the process, waiting for the outcome.

Finally, Astraea shared the memory of when he had just taken over their Solon's body with them.

His confusion. His incredulity. His fear.

They felt it all.

Each of the twins had reacted differently; the male one being stubborn. He insisted that it was still all his fault, if not how could their Solon's soul be so weak as to be effortlessly displaced by one of a mortal from another realm that had no clue what magic was.

The female of the pair on the other hand found herself on a fence. She was not sure what to feel about the whole situation.

As her younger brother turned to her, expecting her support for his argument, she shocked him by simply saying; "I need some time to think," before floating away in a random direction.

.

'Sigh. The things we do for the sake of peace and harmony,' He thought.

Soon, three demons were standing beside his bed; an Ancestral Vampire, an Incubus, and the original demon herself—the Goddess of Night and Death, Astraea.

They all had varying expressions and poses.

The first one had an indiscernible glint in her eyes as she watched on, leaning her back on the door of his room with her arms folded beneath her chest.

The second one had a serious demeanor. It was clear that a lot of things were swirling around his mind but what exactly those thoughts were, none of the others knew. They could only make guesses.

And lastly, the goddess who was standing closest to him, right beside his bed, looked down at him with a grin.

Chief amongst the emotions Solon could discern from her face and mannerisms was anticipation—something that she did not bother to hide whenever it came to things related to him.

She always seemed to want to know more about him and his past.

He had told her many things and the more he shared, the more she craved.

Even though he had that Divine Spark in his soul, it had already been clarified that he was not Solariel, her other half. Or at least, the chances of him being so was ridiculously low.

Still, she found herself being drawn to him. She had considered plundering all his memories without his consent but that was a no-no for certain reasons.

For one, the Divine Spark could potentially retaliate and give her injuries that would negatively affect her performance in the war that was sure to come in the near future.

Also, it just did not sit well with her.

Doing that would permanently damage, if not completely destroy, their current relationship. And if it turned out that he actually was or was related to her other half—the God of Day and Life, Solariel, then that would be problematic.

The six gods and goddesses had teamed up and killed him back then before she showed up to fight, dealing substantial damage to them before she was forced to retreat to her realm—the Demon Realm, from where she would go on to wage war on the rest of the world.

Now, they use the name of her lover to pass down prophecies, since he was the god with the most followers and influence even when compared to all other gods and goddesses, and his followers are none the wiser.

How could she dare to harm his possible reincarnation or successor?

"We have been through this a number of times now but as always, I will ask…" she said, sitting on the bed beside him. "…Are you sure? And are you ready?"
