Chapter 6 - Deadmans’ Call

Angeline's face turned pale. "Jamaica! Where are you?" Her voice carried with worry and anxiety. Her heart was beating fast in fear; she wanted to calm down, but she couldn't.

The tired and weak voice of Jamaica sounded again. "It was so dark, I can't move. The water is filling the area, and it will soon reach my throat."

"Jamaica, tell me where you are?!" Angeline asked quickly, worried and scared that she would lose another student.

"I'm scared, teacher. I don't want to die," Jamaica's trembling, weak voice sounded again. "Teacher, I can't breathe."

"Jamaica, hold on! Tell me where you are!" Angeline panicked. She grabbed her coat and rushed outside, her hair in disarray, but she didn't care.

As soon as she got outside, she immediately called for a taxi. The driver, who understood the situation, quickly drove his taxi as soon as Angeline got in.

"Cliff… river…" Jamaica stuttered, her voice becoming weaker and weaker.

"Jamaica, please hold on!" Angeline said, her voice carrying a trace of warmth, but her body was panicking; fear and worry were written all over her face.

'Cliff, river, and a road to her house…' Angeline murmured, recalling the clues she had gotten.

Suddenly, the driver drove in a direction. Angeline was confused by the driver's actions; she hadn't even given a single direction yet the driver drove.

"Where are we going?" Angeline asked.

The driver turned a deaf ear and ignored Angeline. "Hey! Where are you taking me to?! Jamaica needs help!" Angeline shouted.

Suddenly, Angeline felt tired. She fought her tiredness to avoid falling asleep; she grabbed her head. "Ugh! Hey! Stop!"

But it was too late. Her vision blurred, and the world around her faded to black.

When she opened her eyes, she found herself standing in the middle of nowhere. When she looked around, she found herself on a road surrounded by trees; the taxi she rode had disappeared. When she looked further, there was a curved road near the cliff.

'Cliff?!!' Angeline was alarmed. She ran towards the cliff, her heart pounding in her chest. All she could think about was the cryptic words Jamaica had uttered - cliff, river. She reached the edge, gasping for breath.

The guardrails were broken, and there were jagged tire marks on the ground, which seemed to be still fresh, indicating that an accident had just happened.

Her heart raced faster as she stared at the broken guardrails. She hesitated, her mind racing with fear and desperation. She walked slowly near the edge, looking down below with fear in her eyes. Terror gripped her soul as she saw the aftermath.

"Jamaica!!" Angeline yelled.

Angeline caught a glimpse of wrecked metal, parts of the taxi. Panic surged through her, and she gripped her phone trembling. With shaking hands, she called the police.

"This is Laguna Police Station, what can I do for you?" Angeline's voice quivered as she explained the situation. The operator's tone turned serious. "Stay calm, ma'am. The rescue teams are on their way."

A minute later, the rescue teams arrived. It took them half an hour to retrieve the victims' bodies, the driver and the passenger.

"Can I take a look at the bodies?" Angeline asked, her voice trembling. She wished that it was not Jamaica. The rescue personnel nodded, leading her into a tent where the bodies were.

Inside the tent, lay two bodies on mortuary stretchers. The rescue personnel slowly walked towards the body near the entrance. "The victim's name is Alfredo Garcia, 53 years old. The cause of death of the driver was exsanguination, resulting from severe bleeding caused by the shattered car window. The taxi suddenly lost its brakes as the driver was about to turn, and as the taxi fell off the cliff onto the left side where the driver was seated, it first struck the guardrails, causing the windows on the left side to crack, and the resulting fragments directly struck the carotid artery, leading to immediate death. Time of death, 9:35 PM, " the rescue personnel said as he lifted down the cover on its face, revealing the face of a middle-aged man who seemed to be 50 years old or older. But, when Angeline saw the face, she was shocked because this was the driver who had driven her to the road near the cliff.

Sadness, fear, and terror covered her face. Her body trembled in fear, but the rescue personnel supported her.

"Are you okay?" The rescue personnel thought that seeing a corpse was too much for Angeline.

Angeline touched her forehead. "I'm okay, let's continue." The rescue personnel saw Angeline still wanted to continue, he warned her again but Angeline still persisted. He had no choice but to continue to the second victim.

The two walk to the second victim, Angeline is trembling In nervousness, fear, and anxiety can be seen in her eyes, while the rescue personnel calmly look at her getting ready in case she faints.

The rescue personnel slowly lifted the coved from the victim's face. "This is Jamaica Villanueva, 16 years old, a student of San Francisco High School. Her cause of death is asphyxiation, there is a sign of struggle in her body. Meaning, she was still alive and struggling when the taxi fell into the river. The estimated time of her death is 9:50 PM, 15 minutes after the death of the driver, " he lifted down the cover, revealing a pale face of a girl.

Angeline stared at the female victim's face which was her student, Jamaica. She doesn't want to believe any of these happening, because just several minutes ago both of them were just talking over the phone.

As if knowing what will happen in advance, the rescue personnel swiftly towards Angeline. Anxiousness, despair, sorrow, sadness, fear, terror, and more negative emotions swept over her mind. As she cannot take the negative emotions her mind continues to receive, she faints.

But luckily, the rescue personnel prepared and planned it in advance in case Angeline fainted.

The rescue personnel carried Angeline on his back as he walked to the tent where medical units belong. Medical unit staff saw the rescue personnel carrying Angeline, they quickly brought a stretcher and helped the rescue personnel to carry Angeline. They brought her over to the Medical Unit Tent to do a quick medical check, as soon as they were done they quickly arranged for Angeline to be driven to the hospital through the Ambulance.

On the next day, Angeline woke up with great pain over her head. She immediately remembered everything that happened, she cried uncontrollably as she mourned for her dead students.

The hospital nurses heard her cry and quickly rushed to her sick room.

"Are you alright?" one of the nurses asked, as the other nurses quickly assisted Angeline and gave her a glass of water.

Angeline drank the water as her sobs continued, several moments later, she calmed down, wiping her tears with her sleeves, she said. "I'm okay now, thank you."

"I'm glad to hear that." The nurse from earlier said. Following that, the few nurses checked Angeline just in case, and seeing that there was no problem, the nurse left.

Angeline was left there alone, thinking of everything that happened. The mysterious phone call and her students' death. She laid down and rested her eyes for several hours before leaving the hospital.

She arranged and cleaned up her room just as she got home, looking at the papers at her working table, she realized she still had a responsibility to take care of, but the horror that the mysterious calls were still stuck in her head. Lying in her bed, she began to think about how the mysterious call called and disappeared like nothing happened. She also realized that every time that mysterious call called, it was the moment before her students' death.

She was thinking deeply when suddenly her phone rang, remembering that mysterious call, Angeline was spooked. She looked at her phone, it was just the school principal, she sighed with relief. But she also thinks of the possibility that maybe not only the students are affected but also the other.

Mustering all of her courage, she picked it up. "Hello?" her tone is calm and professional, but if someone was beside her, they would see that nervous face she had.

"Hello Ms. Angeline, are you alright? I heard that you are in the hospital, what happened?" the voice on the other side said, her tone was the sound of an old woman but it brought peace and warmth.

Hearing the tone, there seems nothing wrong. Angeline sighed in relief. "Yes, I'm alright. It's just that, I'm fainted and nothing more...." Angeline said casually but to the principal, it sounded serious, and she kept asking for more details, Angeline had no choice but to make up a story for the principal to believe.

The principal could only believe, hearing how healthy she was they ended the call after a few more conversations. The principal also gave her a week of leave since Angeline seemed in a bad condition, Angeline refused but the principal persisted. She accepted it, unwillingly.

After that call, Angeline also received calls from other teachers, asking how she was and if she was okay. It took her almost an hour to finish all the calls. Suddenly a student calls her, fear suddenly overwhelmed her face as she reminded her of what happened previously. Picking it up, she sighs with relief. Like the other teachers, the student also asks about her condition. Many students call her, worried about her.

Angeline could only smile gently, she was glad that there was someone who cared for her, as a teacher. Because of today's era, student who care and respect their teachers are rare and hard to find.

Lying in her bed, she gently closed her eyes for a moment.

She stands up, and tidies herself. After checking everything was fine, she left her house for a simple breakfast. She found a small food stall in a corner of the street, it was the stall where she usually ate.

Sitting in the chair, Angeline ordered her food. The owner saw her and asked, "The usual simple breakfast?"

"Yes, Uncle Jin."

After several minutes, her food was served. Angeline immediately munched down to her food. Suddenly, the owner passed her a drink.

Angeline looked at the owner in confusion and was about to say something but interrupted by the owner. "It's on the house." the owner smiled.

"Thank you..."

A few minutes later, Angeline already went home after eating. At her home, Angeline turns to finish her work. She checks the papers of her students as she makes a PowerPoint presentation and quizzes for her class.

Even though she was working, the things she experienced that night reverberated in her head. She couldn't focus, but she persisted. She only took a break during lunch and dinner. When she finally stopped, it was already 12.40 AM. Angeline already completed everything she needed to do, and now she only needed to sleep.

While arranging her working table, sounds of ringing suddenly came to her phone.

Angeline was surprised and scared. She doesn't want to pick up her phone, fearing that it will happen again.

She turned to her bed, ignoring her phone. But all of a sudden, the ringing sound in her phone has changed into static sounds.

Resisting the urge to check her phone, she lie down in her bed as she use her blanket to cover her whole body.

She wants to believe that supernaturals don't exist, but that things she experienced last time keep echoing in her head.

Covered in fear, Angeline felt that she was being stared at like she was not alone. Rustling can be heard around her room, yet there is no wind.

Suddenly, the static sounds in her phone disappeared, along with the strange things that were happening in her room. Everything came to normal like everything was just an illusion. 'Yes, everything was just an illusions' Angeline consoled herself.

When she thought everything was fine, the sounds of screaming suddenly came out from her phone. The voices in the phone were familiar to Angeline, extremely familiar. It was her students, screaming for help.

Unable to resist herself, she screamed. "No!!" she forced herself to move. She grabbed her phone, and with force, she slammed it to the ground. That force should have been enough to break the phone, but to her despair, the screams from the phone hadn't stopped.

"No, no, no, no, no, no" Angeline fell down to the ground, she broke down, her mind had fallen.

Her body became pale, her eyes lost their light. She looked around, maybe she was just hallucinating but when she looked around, what she saw was her students, dying in the most cruel way. To her, it was both unfamiliar and familiar.

In her eyes, each student has a phone in their hand. Telling their state of death, each mumbling the name of their teacher, Angeline. Her room slowly turned to something unfamiliar to her, the room expanded, and the things in her room disappeared. Instead, it slowly turns to her classroom.

In the classroom, she was standing beside the blackboard, teaching the students who were sitting at their own tables. The bodies of the students were the way they died, some of the students had rope marks on their necks, some had their heads decapitated, some were wet and pale and some were tortured beyond human. The teacher, Angeline, has her hair disheveled, her lips smiling uncontrollably, and her eyes have lost their pupils.

Suddenly, the phone which was on the teacher's table rang. All the attention turned to the phone. The teacher stopped her lesson and walked towards the phone. She picked it up and answered the phone, "Hello?" this word should have felt warm and inviting but it turned cold and creepy.

"Teacher, help me!"

...

The next day, Angeline and her students were found dead in their classroom. Even the dead bodies of students who should be in a morgue were found there, and according to the CCTV, no one was found entering the classroom last night.

This incident caused a rumor across the town, because of the incident, the school was abandoned and shut down.

It later became one of the most haunted places in the world.
