Chapter 41 - Against a goddess

Another goddess has left me, though I still have another six that keep supporting me. Maybe eventually they will leave me as well. I'm not certain, but slowly and surely it might happen.

"Esmond?" Albrecht awoke from his unconscious state; his eyes started to open, but only a little. Though he was healed by a goddess directly, I'm sure he needs more rest.

"Kaiser Albrecht, I order you to rest and not move." His body was still weak, and I have a bad feeling something is about to happen.

"Yes, sir..." Albrecht is unconscious again, but this time he wasn't in a dire situation; he's just resting.

"Paisley! Something is happening behind those men. Can you get through them?"

"Tsk, I wish I could, but apparently I'm just outnumbered."

"Outnumbered? Didn't you take out an entire army of knights? I'm sure you can get through them."

Arnold was silent before something was approaching him from the sky; it was directing towards him, bright and shining.

Almost shaped like a ball... Wait, a ball? Fireball! Damn it, do they have a second batch of mages?

When the fireball was heading towards him at an alarming rate, he suddenly disappeared, and the fireball hit the ground, causing a small shake in the ground.

Arnold suddenly appeared again in front of the ground that was hit by the fireball.

He did a familiar pose with his hand, and his face was saying 'see?' without saying any words.

I felt like I saw this a couple of times, but right now, that doesn't even matter. I should go and help out Paisley.

"Stay here, Esmond. It wouldn't be fun if you just joined the battle and destroyed the enemies," Gesine walked towards Paisley and stood beside him.

Her spear was pointing towards the armored guards.

"Young lady, can you handle this fight?"

"Better not underestimate me, mister. I'm more than capable."

Gesine stood still before taking her stance, and as she did, the wind started to circulate around her.

Paisley was impressed, though he can't sense magic, he does feel the gushing wind.

I see it differently. I could see the mana of wind circulating and gathering into one place before turning into a straight flow of mana.

All the mana that was gathered moved around inside Gesine's spear. It was like she was charging.

Doesn't that mean it's her ultimate attack? Well, rest in peace to the people in her way because the amount of mana is mind-blowing.

"Life of the world in my hands, pierce the enemy," Gesine murmured before releasing and throwing her spear towards the knights.

But it stopped, "Magic barriers?" So, they took their time setting this up, but there's nothing to worry about.

After all, Gesine isn't even worried; I'm sure she's confident in her attack.

And good thing I trusted her, since immediately after the spear and the barrier collided, the barrier started to crack and eventually broke. There were two more barriers, but it pierced through without any problems.

It immediately hit the armored knights; their shields broke, and it passed through their bodies. I'll spare you from the gruesome image, but the only thing you need to know is that the knights that were hit were still alive.

Though the other side of their bodies seems to be gone, they are still alive for now.

As her spear passed through the soldiers, it immediately went into the center where the strange people gathered around.

Then the spear stopped before hitting them.

"What!" Even Gesine was surprised at the sudden halt of her spear.

It stayed in its position, almost like it was frozen in place. The people in the middle formed a circle; they didn't flinch even when the spear was about to hit them.

Something was glowing in there; they were gathering and protecting something.

"It's ready?" Luke said something while taking cover. He hid behind the other knights that were still okay.

"Behold!" one of the men in strange clothing shouted. Then I had a sudden feeling, something I definitely felt before but can't remember.

Then a strange thing happened; everyone was being pulled, including me. It's like I'm being sucked into a void.

I looked at where it's coming from, and it came from the people that had strange clothing, the ones that the knights were protecting earlier.

It was in the middle of the night, but something strange was happening. There was a bright light in the center of the men.

And above them, there was a crack, a sudden crack in the air, and around it, the air looks distorted, like some wavy lines.

Like broken glass, the air was shattering; it was defying everything that existed. Between those cracks, there was nothing; it was like the galaxy full of stars.

It was calming. I wasn't entirely awed by this since back in my old world, I saw the stars and galaxies everywhere. Even online, you can find those.

But this feels different. It's like I'm staring into nothingness; it's pulling me, and not physically, more like my consciousness was being dragged inside.

I think I can find peace in there... Should I?

Then my hand moved, and it slapped my face. I came back to my senses. Crap! It's a hallucination, more likely a trap.

But why do I feel nervous? Why do I feel like I have experienced this before?

"Gesine! Paisley!" I looked at Paisley and Gesine, and they were also staring at the void. Their eyes didn't blink, nor did their bodies move an inch.

I ran and grabbed them both, and I slapped them back to their senses. Luckily, they both returned back to normal.

"I don't think both of you can fight."

"Huh? Why was I fighting a second ago?"

"That's right, why am I here? Wasn't I fighting those mages as well?" Both of them looked confused; it's like they suddenly teleported.

They didn't remember looking into the void.

What was that? I looked at the knights that were beside those strange-looking group, and they all had foam in their mouths; they suddenly got unconscious or possibly dead.

Could I have been in that same state if my body didn't move on its own?

I looked at the void, and it vanished; the men that summoned it disappeared as well, along with Marquess Blight.

Then I felt something coming from above. I looked up and saw a massive pointy thing heading towards me it looked like an arrowhead.

It wasn't something made from wood and metal; it was more like it was made out of crystal, and more came running down.

As Gesine, Paisley, and I dodged with all our might, they were everywhere, ranging from big to small.

And a small one was about to hit Albrecht. I f*cking forgot to take him! Though he was swiftly saved by Paisley, it left Paisley with a wound in his arm.

But what is causing this sh*t to happen?

"I must look everywhere. I must find where these attacks are coming from! Is that what you are thinking, right?"

Huh? That's exactly what I was thinking about, but I didn't speak out loud, and that voice was the voice of a woman.

"Hehehe hahahahaha, I haven't touched the human grounds in thousands of years!"

This feeling... No wonder it felt familiar! A being that shouldn't be here has descended into man's land!

I turned and saw a woman wearing clothes of your typical hunter. She had a bow on her back, a sword by her waist, and a spear in her hands.

"You! Why are you here!? How can you even be here! Aren't you a Goddess!?"
