I followed Gesine into the streets, and she led me to a place where she stays when she visits. From the outside, it looked a bit terrible, but once we were inside, it was a fancy place with couches and carpets.
Was this girl secretly rich or something? Anyhow, I have been feeling a bit of discomfort ever since I entered the city. I wonder what it is.
"How long do you plan on staying here, Gesine?"
"About a week or so. It's a long journey to get back home, so I want to relax here a bit. How about you?"
"Same. I'll stay here for a week. I want to see the festival. I heard they have fireworks." When we first got here, people celebrated our arrival, but the other two heroes thought that the festivals they had were too bland.
So they introduced fireworks to them and told them how to make them. I don't know how they even learned about making fireworks, but it was a good thing. I used to enjoy them back in the day.
I looked at her directly in the eye, "Will you come with me? If something happens to me, I can't use magic in a crowded place, so it's better to have Gesine to support me."
"Are you asking me on a date? Disgusting," augh, damn, that damaged my heart; it was a straight-up rejection.
"But if I have to, I might as well go..."
"Nice, thank you!" Now I don't have to worry about my identity being revealed in a public place since we're in the most holy City.
Anyone from here on out could be an enemy. Staying cautious is the best way, but I still want to enjoy the festival.
"Shouldn't you go visit your relatives now?"
"I, ahh, I'll visit tonight. I want to surprise them." Crap, I forgot that I told Gesine that I would visit my relatives.
"How about you? Shouldn't you visit your aunt's grave?" I'll change the subject. I can't get caught on this one.
"I'll go there tomorrow, but for now, I need to shop for some food since we'll be staying at this place." Now that I think about it, she did invite me to this place, so I guess we will be staying under the same roof?
I'm getting a married vibe here, but maybe that's just my imagination.
After changing clothes, Gesine went out to buy some groceries, and she told me to stay and guard the place.
"Don't touch anything!" were her words before she left.
So I didn't do anything. I got a bit bored and laid down on the comfy couch. Now that I'm laying down, time to overthink again.
First, I need to find Lucas. He's the guy that owed me a favor. He developed an information gathering system for a few years now, and the timing couldn't be more perfect. I need information about the empire in the north.
He runs his information-gathering group within big cities, but there are a few problems. I don't know how to find them. It's not like they are the beggar sect, which you can identify because they are beggars.
I'll think about that when I go into the city at night. Right now, it's still in the afternoon. I yawned. Time for the second problem.
Demons. I'm pretty sure I gave Valier very strict instructions to not let demons out of the demon region. Or could they possibly be rogues? Well, anyhow, my damn mental health is breaking because of it.
When I get back, I should give a proper punishment. Maybe running for 3 kilometers? I don't know the size of the entire region, but it's definitely big enough.
After that, I just kept on thinking about useless thoughts when I eventually fell asleep. I should get a 5-minute nap...
But it seems time wasn't on my side.
I heard a creaking sound. I was still half asleep. I knew it was Gesine, so I tried to get back to sleep since I had a nice dream. That was until I heard her voice.
"Hello?" It was a different voice; it definitely wasn't Gesine. So, I opened my eyes and sprang off the couch, ready to confront that person.
I saw a girl who looked too formal. She seemed like a shy person, an introvert. But she didn't look like she lived on the streets. She was carrying some fruits, vegetables, and other foods.
"Lady Gesine told me to drop these off. She did say there was someone here. I didn't mean to wake you up." Her voice was kinda shaky. Is she nervous about being in a room alone with a man?
"I see, then I'll take the groceries," I reached out to grab the groceries, but she suddenly let go. Huh? My hand that was supposed to get the groceries was taken, and she suddenly did a handshake.
"Uhm, what are you doing?" I questioned her, yet there was no answer; she just stared at my hand very weirdly.
Then she suddenly let go of my hand. "I see," she said before she took a slight bow, waved goodbye, and left just like that. What the hell was that?
"Oh man, now the groceries are on the ground." I picked them up and put them on the table. I wonder where Gesine went.
She just told a weird girl to deliver the food she bought? I looked outside the window and the sun was already setting; it's about time I go out and claim the debt.
I yawned and changed outfits. I went for a dark color fit. Not gonna lie, all black is kinda suspicious, but it's better since I'll be going into the streets at night.
Then I heard the door open again. Wait, is she back? I quickly looked at the door, and thankfully it was Gesine and not some weird girl.
"Wait, where are you going at this time and hour?"
