Chapter 173 - Chapter 173 - A Geiger Counter in this World?!

Third person POV

"Woah…is this one of the benefits of me being reincarnated in this world?" Russell was stunned while the Renad system screen disappeared from the scene.

"Ester might have given me that one…" Russell's mind said, "…thanks…"

After that, Russell accepted it, before opening the door, and his friends grabbed their belongings and got off before Russell would turn off his bus's engine. Then, once that was done, Russell stood up, grabbed his belongings, and got off as well. All of them then went into Janet's house. Janet opened the front door with its key, and all of them went in before Janet would close the door. Now inside of the house, Janet prepared the living room and guestroom for her friends to sleep in for the night. After that, Janet said good night to them and went to her room to rest for the night, and Russell and his group settled down in those 2 rooms, changing their clothes in the bathroom a bit later. All of them then did some evening stuff before falling asleep at 9:24 p.m.

The next day, after cleaning up their sleeping spaces, everyone in the house had breakfast at the dining table. Janet, Russell, and Azalea cooked fried eggs, some slices of ham, and pan-toasted whole wheat bread with butter for breakfast. Russell and Janet also made some cups of hot tea and coffee as well. In that breakfast table, Janet asked Russell, "Hey, Russell, where are you going on your bus route for the day?"

"I'll be going to Carelis, Province of Haki in the Zale Valleys via Rossley and Leafmight," responded Russell back while eating. "I'll travel with my friends."

But Adrian suddenly remembered that he had some princely training at the capital to do, so he looked at Russell. "Hey, Russell-san, can you drop me at the capital on your way to Carelis? I have some prince's work to do."

"Oh, really?" Russell glanced at him. "Sure, okay."

 "Thanks!"

"We'll come with Russell-kun!" Ria responded.

Rai and Kelly then nodded to volunteer.

"Me too!" Azalea added as well.

Russell said yes to their requests, before finishing his meal.

And so, after breakfast and helping out with the chores after it, Russell and his group left the house for the day while Janet parted ways with them and went to the academy for work. Russell and his group boarded Russell's bus, and Russell turned it on. All of them then left the place. Along the way, the bus stopped by and as usual, Russell placed a few signs that say "Rossley", "Leafmight", and "Carelis" in the front and behind the windshield inside the bus, with the text facing the outside through the windshield. "Okay, let's wait for any potential passengers for a bit."

And then, his group waited.

After a bit of waiting, 14 passengers boarded the bus, and Russell closed the door and all of them left the downtown street and the city towards Rossley in the eastern direction. Later, at 9:56 a.m., the bus arrived at the capital, and Russell opened the door. "Alright, we're here, everyone. That'll be 4 gold coins, 6 silver coins, or 10 copper coins, please." 5 of the passengers grabbed their belongings, stood up, and went to the front, paying the fare according to their current funds before getting off. As Russell tossed his earnings into his metal money box, Adrian grabbed his stuff, stood up, and got off while saying to Russell, "Thanks for the ride!"

"Yeah, anytime," replied Russell happily back.

Outside, Cassius, who had been walking around when he saw Adrian back in the capital. "Oh, Sir, Adrian, welcome back home, just in time for your training at the palace home of yours."

"Yeah, I luckily remembered it," responded Adrian back. "Let's go."

And so, both of them left the area, and Russell and his group said goodbye to them.

After a bit of waiting here, another 5 passengers boarded the bus. With that, Russell closed the door and drove off. All of them left Rossley and toward Leafmight in the northeast. Later, at 10:18 a.m., the bus arrived at Leafmight, and Russell did the same set of things as usual upon arriving at his next destination, but with a different set of fares for this route. This time, 8 passengers paid their fares and got off with their belongings. Shortly after, another 3 passengers boarded the bus, and Russell closed the door and drove off northwards towards Carelis, which was located in the northwestern part of the Zale Valleys. The journey took 2 hours and 14 minutes, a big reduction in travel time compared to 7-8 days by horse carriage or horse wagon

So, by 12:45 p.m., the bus had arrived at Carelis, a farming and crafting town off from the valleys, and Russell opened his door, before doing his usual set of things as usual upon arriving at his next destination, but with another different set of fares for this route. This time, all passengers onboard paid their fares and got off with their belongings. Russell had earned more money than last time from Rossley to Leafmight. After tossing the money into his money box, he looked at his friends, "Hey, guys, it's now noon. Wanna eat at a tavern?"

"Sure!" Rai responded back with enthusiasm.

"I'm hungry," Ria added while nodding.

And so, Russell drove his bus somewhere with a vacant spot and parked it there, before turning off the engine and standing from his seat. His friends also stood up and stretched a bit from sitting all morning, and all of them grabbed their belongings and got off. The party then walked across the streets of Carelis, looking for a place to eat a nice, hearty noontime meal. And then, all of them found a good tavern that offered corn and poultry meals at reasonable prices and went in there.

Inside the rustic tavern, the place was busy and packed with customers eating lunch. The staff were in full hustle mode to keep up with the demands of the dining customers. Despite that, Russell and his group found a table for six and settled there. A waiter came and handed them a few menus before hurriedly leaving to assist in the tavern. Russell and his group grabbed them and opened them, browsing its menu for lunch. Russell chose a plate of 2 slices of meat pie with corn and cheese fillings alongside the usual mixed and minced meats and a plate of Caesar salad. Rai and Ria chose a plate of roasted mutton, while their mother chose a plate of one big roasted turkey leg. For Azalea, she chose a bowl of corn and chicken salad, the tavern's signature dish. Their beverages of choice are water and some glasses of light beer. So, after confirming their choices to his friends, Russell called a waiter to come to their table. A waiter did so, and Russell said their orders for their meal. The waiter listened to him while jotting down their orders in his paper notepad. After that, the lad said to him, "Okay, I'll be back."

He then left their table.

20 minutes later, their order came, and Russell and his group grabbed their utensils and ate up. The food was hot, soft, tasty, and delicious as if the tavern had made them as tasty as possible to attract more customers to its doors. But then, while Russell and his group were eating, someone went to a vacant table for two and placed a strange, modern tech on it, before sitting down and opening the menu to order something for lunch. Russell heard something being placed on that person's table, Russell looked to his left, only to be shocked at that thing in question; that said thing was a Geiger Counter, a modern equipment that detects and measures radiation. The one who brought it to that tavern's table was a reincarnated physicist named Gregory Hanswell.

"Is that a…?" Russell's mind asked while Russell kept on staring at the Geiger Counter.
