Chapter 62 - Chapter 62 – The Pillory

Third person POV

And then, as the two scamming scumbags rose from falling on their knees in front of Russell and the injured traveling salesman getting up, the squad of city guards got off their horses and ran to the scene, apprehending the three criminals. "Are you okay, sir?" the captain asked Russell. Russell then looked at him. "Yes, I'm fine, sir. I had captured these guys."

He then pointed at the three apprehended bozos for a few moments.

"Woah, you did?" the captain looked at them. "How did you do that?"

Russell then smiled at him back. "I used my bus to derail their horse wagon off the road."

The captain and his squad were stunned with surprise to hear that.

 "What?"

 "You did that?"

"Yes," Russell confidently and positively replied back, "and it was a road chase between me and those scumbags."

The three criminals felt humiliated by his words.

Hearing that, the squad couldn't help but imagine what it looked like.

But nevertheless, they thanked Russell for catching the three fraudsters, saying they would take it from there.

"But I'll carry them back to the city for your convenience," Russell added something.

"Okay, how?" asked one of the city guards.

Meanwhile, Russell's party and group are at the east gate of Fernlay City waiting for the squad to come back. They were told by that squad to stay and wait for them. "I'm not sure about master," John commented while worrying for Russell and being carried by Azalea.

 "Yeah, me too," Adrian added.

"Don't worry, kids," Cassius responded in assurance. "He'll be fine."

But then, Russell, in his bus, came back with the squad of city guards, surprising them.

 "Woah, it's Russell-kun!"

 "No way…"

As Russell pulled over within the city's perimeters and opened the door, his entire group ran to the door.

 "Russell!" Azalea said.

"Are you okay, master?" John added.

Russell then stood up and walked to the edge of the steps towards the door. "Yes, I'm fine, guys."

"But how about those three fraudsters?" Cassius asked him back. "Did they get away with it?"

In response to that, Russell walked towards the back, grabbed someone, and threw them out the door and on the ground in front of Russell's group. Those three are the apprehended fraudsters, who were tied up. Russell's group was surprised that Russell had managed to catch them.

 "Woah, you did it?"

 "That's amazing!"

 "Man, you're so cool, Russell-kun."

The captain of the squad then got off his horse and walked to Russell's group. "Yeah, your friend of yours had managed to catch them with his…unusual tactic."

His squad then helped the three criminals to stand up.

The captain then told them to take those three men to the city's main barracks for interrogation and imprisonment.

"What tactic?" Adrian asked the captain.

"Go and ask him," the captain said back.

To that, Adrian turned to Russell and asked, "What tactic did you use?"

"Well…" Russell replied back slowly, surprising him, "…a thing called road chase."

 "Road chase?" Adrian was puzzled.

 "What is that?" Rai asked.

"It's when one vehicle chased another vehicle on a road, often in high speed," Russell replied back, "and I used that with my bus."

"Wait, your bus can reach that fast?" Azalea asked.

Russell then nodded.

Azalea and the others in the May party couldn't help but be amazed at his tactic, as well as his bus's ability to go fast.

"Yeah, it was like, 25 to 30 kilometers per hour," Russell added.

"Man, that sounds fast," the captain commented.

Later that day, all of them went to the city's main barracks to find out whether those three criminals really scammed their customers with fake, cheap medicine or not. There, after the interrogation, three city guards informed them that those three shady people had, indeed, scammed them, thus confessing it.

One of the three guards even demonstrated how fake the medicine was by drinking it. When he did so, the medicine had no effect on him at all, proving that the medicine is fake. Cassius confirmed it with his own testing. And so, those three would-be businesspeople were charged with fraud and conspiracy to commit murder on Russell. The hooded figure was eventually given a lighter sentence as a reward for cooperating with the city guards and Russell and his group, while the three bozos were sentenced to 7 years in jail for their crimes.

But before those three criminals would be locked up in jail, the city guards decided to humiliate them in the city plaza by having their heads and hands thrusted through holes in the frames of the pillories and exposing them to a wide crowd. Then, the captain read their criminal charges aloud to the crowd in every detail. The crowd, including the criminals' customers, gasped in shock what those schmucks did to them. Those who bought their fake medicine felt being scammed by them and stirred up hatred against them. So, some of the crowd started to boo them while others threw rotten food, like tomatoes, and dirty sponges at the three humiliated criminals. Those three scumbags are now crying in regret, shame, and humiliation as they were being humiliated under the hot sun.

Russell and his party were watching this from behind the booing crowd.

"Hehe, take that, scumbags," Russell thought in his mind while smiling in approval.

Russell gained some points for delivering the three bozos to the authorities.

Before the public humiliation of the three fraudsters, he visited the hooded figure who was tasked with assassinating him in his jail cell, thanking him for his cooperation and even forgiving him for doing that to him. Russell knew that this unknown person was told to do so. The figure was grateful for him, promising to change and start a new life as a new man once he was free from jail. Russell was happy for him and wished him good luck, before leaving his jail cell.
