...
He looked over the area where the kids from the orphanage, and Dai lay asleep. His expression hardened as he mumbled softly, "and for these people".
Suddenly, his body started to glow in a dim light of orange hue, disturbing him from his concentration.
...
...
Shin's empath powers kicked in as his concentration was disturbed. The surrounding emotions from multiple people flooded inside his head, engulfing his mind in pain and causing him to lose track of the energy he felt invading his body. It entered through the forehead, made its way towards the chest and travelled down towards his navel.
Regaining focus on his thoughts through immense efforts, he tried to get ahold of the energy. Shin wanted to track it by regulating his chakra flow and taking control of this foreign energy. He moved his chakra flow in the same direction. As it was about to disrupt the pulsating foreign energy in his body, he lost the energy signature.
"What the hell?.", the energy signature vanished completely. He moved his chakra all over his body and found no trace of any foreign element. His body glowed with a dim light, concentrated around his navel. Shin lifted his worn out shirt just a little while facing towards the wall and saw a mark forming right below his navel.
" 蘇 " Symbol inside a small red droplet had formed there. He tried to search his memories, and found the meaning to be resuscitation. 'Hmm, is it an advancement of healing ability... but that glow and weird feeling. In some ways, I don't feel good about it'
Shin shrugged the thoughts from his head. He looked above, and felt the rain droplets striking against his skin. 'It's gonna be a strong downpour today...'
Due to the heavy downpour, Everyone in front of the shelter had to move inside the shelter and the hall had become more crowded. Due to limited space and more noise in the hall, Dai had woken up and was helping with the newly injured along with Emi. Akiko, who had also woken up before him, was trying to wake the other orphanage kids. Hiro rubbed his eyelids, still exhausted due to insufficient sleep.
"Wake up! Hiro, we need to find Shin. I can't find him anywhere"
Hiro, still half asleep, pointed at the back, "Big brother, What are you talking about, he is standing right there".
Akiko left Hiro's collar and made his way to Shin. "Where did you go?. I thought that you got sick again and the doctors took you away. I was worried"
Shin put his hands on Akiko`s shoulder and smiled, "Don't worry, I am fine. How is everyone else?".
"They are okay. Dont leave without telling anyone again"
"Okay, Okay..."
..
Both sat at a ledge next to a window observing the violent rain outside. After some moments of silence, Akiko spoke, "I miss him so much. He was my first friend in the orphanage."
"Kiri...He would always get Dai to come to our room, whenever we didn't want to eat the food and..."
Shin kept listening to the saddened child. "When mom and dad died in the war, I was so alone and Hiro, he just kept crying. but...", The kid started to sob, little by little.
'Circumstances have made this child grow up, beyond his years'
He placed his hand on Akiko's shoulder and comforted him, "Don't worry, I am sure he is in a better place... I believe when we die, we go to another place, called heaven, and all kids directly go to heaven. I am sure Kiri is there now, smiling at all of us. Wishing for our safety"
"You really think so..."
"Yeah"
Shin smiled warmly, "He always did cover for us, whenever we got into trouble. Remember that fatty we beat up and .. after we got in trouble over that pastry..."
Soft smile...
Shin comforted Akiko for some more moments and eventually, a subtle smile crept onto Akiko's face. Hiro joined the duo and suddenly the mood around the ledge improved.
Shin sighed a sigh of relief at the better atmosphere.
The next day dawned, and gradually, the civilians around the shelter began to trickle back to their homes. Dai had told them in the morning that the orphanage building was severely damaged and it would take some time before it would be fixed to be livable again.
Upon hearing the news, the other orphans wore expressions of dismay. In the span of a single day, they had lost a friend and found themselves homeless once more. After talking with the ninjas in the administration, Emi had arranged a room for the fourteen children. Currently, Akiko and Hiro sat in a spacious room on the floor. The shelter admin had been kind enough to grant them such a big room, in light of their circumstances.
Both of the brothers had taken out their books from their bags and were grappling with math problems from their homework. Yumiko kept a watchful eye on them, offering occasional guidance. Studying served as a distraction from the previous day's events.
Since the two boys had made plans to join the ninja academy this year. Shin had made it clear to them that they would not be accepted if they had too low scores in the written exams. With this little deception, both of them showed newfound interest in academics.
In another corner, two four-year-old girls, Suki and Fuyu, were engrossed in their own studies. Meanwhile, Reiji and Seiko, the children abducted by Orochimaru, remained hospitalized at Leaf Central Hospital, still on the path to recovery from their ordeal. The younger children from the orphanage were preoccupied with their toys.
Yaraki and Izume, who needed little reason to rumble with fists, were sitting close by with their heads down. The events of the previous day were too much for them to process, as they sat there quietly.
"Where's Shin, Akiko?", Yumiko inquired.
"He's helping Dai," Akiko replied absentmindedly.
"He was sick yesterday, why did you let him go?"
"Don't worry, he is feeling a lot better"
Satisfied, Yumiko returned to their studies. Akiko closed his notebook and approached Yaraki. Looking up, Yaraki grumbled, "You planning to just sit there?"
"What do you want?"
"Join us. We're diving into some maths," Akiko extended his hand.
"Tch, Get away. I'm not in the mood"
Akiko got up and said "Suit yourself. But we are probably going to get a lot stronger than you. After studying, we are going to do exercise as well. If you want to, you can join as well.". Locking eyes with the older kid, Akiko added, "If you don't come, Me and Hiro would probably kick both of your asses."
"Tch..."
----------------------------
Shin sat beneath a tree, away from the Hyuga shelter, his gaze fixed on the mark that had manifested on his belly.
'Kurama was supposed to be divided among two people, Naruto and Minato. But, In the Psyche plane, I received a small portion too. Although, I don't trust him. I was helpless, when he forcefully inserted his chakra into my body.'
'And that glow', as his thoughts drifted back to that strange chakra, he lifted his shirt, revealing the mysterious mark that had formed.
'Have I become another Jinchuriki?'He dismissed the idea almost instantly. 'I think I remember quite a few people that had stolen Nine-Tails chakra and they didn't turn into jinchuriki, outright, but... they did achieve a minor transformation when out of control... Anyways, if I go by Nine-Tails words, I don't have to worry about this chakra awakening any time soon.'
"Still, I need to test it."
After practicing leaf concentration over half an hour, until he had achieved a modicum of peace in his mind, he moved the chakra towards his navel and tried to concentrate in the spot where, the weird blood-drop like symbol containing " 蘇 "had formed.
The chakra circulated for over five minutes, but no response from the symbol, no change was observed. Shin ended the exercise, and took a brief rest.
'Contact from the inside doesn't work. Perhaps I should try from the outside.', again he recharged the chakra and then moved it towards his fingers. Five small plumes of chakra lit up on the fingers of his right hand.
Keeping the chakra on the fingertips, he touched the area around the symbol. Suddenly all of the chakra began to be absorbed. Alarmed, he quickly withdrew his hand.
'What the heck!'
'Is this some type of seal, Wait... Have I become a Jinchuriki??...', He struggled to accept the possibility.
He wanted to try again, after recovering the lost chakra, he repeated the process and struck the symbol. This time when the absorption started, he rotated his hand, escaping the absorption of his chakra by the mark and dug into it.
As soon as the fingertips came into contact with the symbol, he felt severe pain, and instantly felt a connection, a calling from somewhere. He looked towards the direction in which the Hokage's building lay. The connection seemed to be there. As his hand stopped rotating, the chakra absorption started again and he immediately felt weakened. With great will and effort, he freed himself from the absorption.
He took heavy breaths for a moment, exhausted again due to the loss of the chakra. "I guess, it's true, it really is a seal. And it formed right after the Nine-Tails attack was over. Did something go wrong?. hmm... "
'Also why didn't it work, when I moved from inside, and only worked when I connected with chakra on the outside... Seals really are difficult to understand. It's more metaphysical than an actual physical thing. Naruto's seal also contained a world in itself... Guess when I join the academy, I better put up a lot of focus on the seals as well... great.. More work...'
He lay down on the empty stretcher placed nearby. "That Nine-Tails, What exactly did he do to me?"
