Chapter 1 - WE ARE NOT ALONE

Chapter one

"What are you are you still doing?" Ava said, looking at her sister who have standing at the dressing mirror for forty-five minutes now.

"I'm almost done." Mia said with a silly smile, putting some lip-gloss on her lip.

"So how do I look?." she added before standing up and doing a spin for her sister to see her outfit.

Ava looked at her with a glare, before looking at Mia from her forehead to her toes in a dramatic way then hissed, before walking out of the room and slammed behind her.

Mia scoffed at her sister, rolling her eyes as she, "I'm done. Can you at least compliment my outfit." she said running after sister.

"I'm sorry" Mia said, her eyes pleading for understanding. "I know I'm late for school, but… please, say something about my clothes. You I can't leave the house without saying it's gorgeous. Please." Mia pleaded. As she walked into the living room, Ava was already sited on the couch pretending to be busy with her phone.

"Please, I'm sorry, it..." Mia words were interrupt with the sound of the school stopping in front of their house.

Mia waited for a response, but her sister remained silent, her expression unreadable. With no words of reassurance, her confidence wavered, and a pang of jealousy surged through her as she thought of her classmates' likely compliments. Swallowing her disappointment, she stepped onto the bus, her mouth set in a pout, much like that of an angry child denied affection.

As Mia stepped into the bus, her eyes widened as she remembered something. "Where is Henry?" she murmured to herself. Looking back at her house, as she sat at the empty sit at the end of bus. The absence of her brother sparked a flicker of concern, but she quickly masked it with a nonchalant shrug. "Maybe he doesn't have class today," she reasoned, trying to dismiss the odd sense of emptiness his absence left. Distracting herself, she plugged in her ear pods and let music wash over her as the bus headed to school.

Ava harboring a mix of concern and frustration, couldn't help but smile inwardly, though she chided herself for thinking her younger sister's antics were foolish. She then turned her attention to Henry, her sixteen years old brother who had come down with a fever overnight. She had already instructed him to stay home from school to recover.

She knocked gently on door of the room shared by her younger brothers, Leo and Henry. As she entered, she saw Henry was awake. Approaching his bed, she placed a hand on his forehead to gauge his fever and asked softly, "How are you feeling now?

Henry's voice was weak but optimistic. "I'm feeling better," he replied. "Have Mia gone to school?" Henry asked.

"Yes" Ava answered, Henry nodded in agreement.

"Do you need anything?.....Come to the kitchen for breakfast when you're ready." She added when Henry shook his head.

Ava went to the kitchen and dish out breakfast for him, she then kept it at the little round table that has a set of two chairs, it was kept at the corner of the little kitchen. She then walked into the living sat at the couch while trying to get busy with her and waiting for her other siblings Leo and Zaza, they had gone to work at the Club overnight. Leo who was nineteen years old was very hardworking and handsome, although Ava was one year older than him, most people always thought Leo was the oldest of them all.

Ava had four siblings, well life haven't been fair to her, but seeing her siblings and her Aunt Kayla, made her always want to hold on. Kyala was Ava's mother younger sister she was twenty-five years old and worked as a striper at the same club that Leo and Zaza worked. Ava used to work at the club before she got fired for slapping a male costumer for touching inappropriate. Ava's dad had abandoned her mom when she was six pregnant for Mia and her mom had died two months after the birth of Mia. Ava never knew much about her dad because she was just five years old when he had abandoned, she and her siblings. Now she was a grown up and all her siblings were all now teenager, Ava was the first was twenty years and had the body of a high school cheer leader, her black long curly-jet hair reach a little bit above her waist, her skin was honey-brown and her had hazel eyes. Leo, who was the second child, was more hardworking, he was the tallest among them including Aunt Kyala who was six years older than him. He had a copper brown hair dye and had ear piercing with a silver earring in it. He was the one who got more compliments from people. Zaza, who was the third child, was seventeen years, had just graduated from high school a year ago, and was now working at the club as a waitress same as Leo. And Henry the fourth born had a fairer skin than all of them, his black short curly jet was just like Ava's hair. He was the calmer and obedient and intelligent one of them all, he was at his last year in high school. And then Mia the last and firth child, she was fifteen and look like the mini version of Ava, the only difference was that she had a brown jet-curly hair.
