Chapter 70 - Staying up late into the night

Having successfully obtained the information to help the trio acquire the Magic Stones, Tewell also began his plan to steal the Magic Stones.

However, before that, he came to the chessboard for the third time.

Compared to his previous dismal failures, he now faced the chessboard with ease, swiftly dealing with the black pieces. The door to the next level finally opened for him.

After a brief inspection and finding no perceptible magic, Tewell ignored the scattered chess pieces and proceeded directly to the next room.

Before his eyes could adjust to the sudden brightness of the room, a giant wooden club came crashing down towards him.

Accompanying the whooshing sound was a nauseating stench that even made Tewell's eyes water.

Once again caught off guard, he had thought he would encounter Snape's room first, with the giant in the room after the next.

Without needing to draw his wand, Tewell angrily cast a freezing spell on the giant, simultaneously trapping its foul odor in a large bubble.

This finally allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief.

This giant was even larger than the one from Halloween, seemingly meant for students above third grade. Its overwhelming stench, like its most powerful skill, was several times more intense...

Having dealt with the giant, Tewell fled as if in despair to the next room.

This room was simple, with only a table holding seven differently shaped bottles.

As he crossed the threshold, a purple flame surged behind him, sealing the entrance.

Similarly, the next door ahead erupted in black flames, blocking his path forward.

Tewell curiously examined these flames.

They emitted intense heat, indicative of magical destructiveness, suggesting they possessed special effects.

The method to pass through was to solve the riddle left by Snape.

However, for him, it wasn't so complicated. He simply took out his wand and drew a circle around himself.

"Fire Shield!"

A blue-purple flame appeared menacingly around him as he circled with his wand. The flame's temperature was not high, and its range was limited, but it was sufficient.

Protected by the purple flame, the black flames ahead obediently cleared a path for him.

Next, he entered the final room.

This room was smaller than the previous ones but exceptionally exquisite.

The torches on the wall illuminated the room brightly, with the large mirror placed in the center shining brilliantly, resembling a gem, tempting Tewell to approach.

However, he cautiously inspected the room first, wary that Dumbledore might have left some magic for surveillance, which could broadcast his actions live.

Unexpectedly, there was none.

He was confident in this regard; although he couldn't yet match Dumbledore's strength with the Elder Wand, no one in the world could hide a perception spell from him.

Slowly approaching the Eris Magic Mirror, Tewell also wanted to know what his deepest desires were.

Sometimes people are like that, not even knowing what they want, growing up only to become more confused.

Sensing his memories being stirred, he didn't stop it, or perhaps, he couldn't stop it.

The mirror didn't just perceive memories; it seemed to search his soul, seeing him clearly.

But it was still him, only him standing there, as if it were an ordinary mirror.

No, the person in the mirror was aging!

His hair gradually turned gray, wrinkles appeared on his face, and his body became somewhat hunched. But he was still handsome.

Tewell narcissistically looked at his elderly self, vaguely guessing what he desired.

However, the magic mirror also sensed his desire for the Magic Stones, displaying it beside his head.

He glanced at the mirror and then averted his gaze.

Tewell reached out and touched the mirror, suddenly realizing a problem.

The Magic Stones were stored inside with a magic similar to the Traceless Extension Charm. If he destroyed the mirror now, would the Magic Stones vanish forever with the collapse of space, or would they be expelled like with the Traceless Extension Charm?

However, he didn't dare to gamble on this possibility.

After groping around for a while, he sensed that Dumbledore's magic and the Eris Magic Mirror were perfectly integrated.

This perfection was something he couldn't break at the moment. So, he left without any reluctance.

However, at the door, he encountered someone unexpected yet unsurprising.

"Fawley!" Quirrell exclaimed in panic, looking around. "What are you doing here?!"

"The same thing as you," Tewell replied.

Tewell glanced at Quirrell's face, much paler than before, a color not natural for a human to possess.

This caught him off guard; logically, Quirrell shouldn't have weakened to this extent so soon.

Surely, after drinking the unicorn blood in the plot, Quirrell remained lively until he turned to ash.

Well, it seemed the plan needed to accelerate.

Tewell calculated in his mind, but his facial expression remained unchanged.

Upon hearing his words, Quirrell's eyes immediately showed anger.

"Do you also want to get the Magic Stones and then sneak away?!" Quirrell accused.

"..."

Silence.

Dead silence.

Tewell didn't know how to face Quirrell's accusation. Was this person influenced by Voldemort, or had he truly lost his mind?

"Cough," Quirrell realized he misspoke and quickly corrected, "I already know Snape's arrangement. Now, I'm just waiting for your—"

"Don't speak!" Tewell silenced Quirrell with a glance.

Before they could hide, another figure hastily arrived at the corner. Just from the "elegant" hair, he recognized who it was.

"Is Professor Snape so free?" Tewell took the initiative this time. "Running outside so late, planning to lose weight?"

Snape's face twitched.

With a murderous gaze, he stared at Tewell, took a deep breath, and spoke slowly,

"Better than you two, wandering around the fourth-floor corridor so late at night. I doubt the three-headed dog inside would appreciate your presence here."

His eyes moved back and forth between Quirrell and Tewell, seemingly trying to discern something different from their faces.

However, the moment Snape appeared, Quirrell returned to his usual nervous state, his eyes darting around, as if wondering what was wrong with Snape.

Tewell, on the other hand, returned a playful glance.

He was sure he hadn't triggered any perception magic inside, but he was also certain Snape didn't just randomly appear before them at night out of boredom.

So, were there means inside that he didn't know of?

"Oh, so there's a three-headed dog inside," Tewell pretended to discover, exaggeratedly.

"I didn't know. Aren't you afraid students might wander in here? Such dangerous things placed here."

"Why would students be interested in what's inside?" Snape retorted.

"How would I know?" Tewell smiled, "Perhaps there might be disobedient students who sneak in. You know, some students at Hogwarts like adventures~"

Snape's face darkened. "Are you threatening me?"

Tewell still wore a smile and walked up to Snape, patting his arm lightly. "How could I be threatening you? Just reminding you to pay more attention to the safety of the students~"

With that, Tewell glanced at the reasonably convincing Quirrell behind him and left first.

Staying up so late at night, truly sickening!
