Chapter 38 - Duel

Professor Fawley, with his proficiency in charms, took the lead and fired a Disarming Spell.

Facing the fast-approaching red light, Tewell chose not to cast a Shield Charm, but instead shifted to the left, dodging the two consecutive spells.

Yes, two spells.

However, as he moved, he flicked his wrist subtly, sending a red light speeding toward Fawley.

Not only that, but Fawley also felt a very slight tremor under his feet, as if something was about to break through.

With his focus highly concentrated, he lifted his wand and a small Shield Charm formed instantly; he instinctively stepped forward—the spell grazing the sole of his foot, narrowly avoiding the Transfiguration spell.

At the same time, the shield in front of him was penetrated, emitting a burst of white light.

Seeing this, Professor McGonagall, who was commentating, couldn't help but shout, "Beautiful! In just a few seconds, both have demonstrated exquisite spell-casting skills!"

Students: ?

Are we watching the same fight?

In their eyes, Professor Fawley simply cast a spell, then Professor Tewell dodged and retaliated at the same time, and finally Fawley used a Shield Charm to block the spell while dodging a Transfiguration spell.

The only thing that surprised them was the extremely fast casting speed of both professors.

Professor McGonagall excitedly looked at the young wizards.

"Professor Fawley initially released two spells!"

"If there are two spells flying straight at you, because the first one will block your view, you often can't see the second spell."

"If Professor Tewell had used a Shield Charm just now, he might not have been able to block the second spell, and even if he did, the impact would have disrupted his balance, causing him to lose the initiative."

"Likewise, Tewell's counterattack was also very impressive, involving two quick spells, yes, including a Transfiguration spell."

"Transforming just a palm was to minimize the fluctuations of the Transfiguration spell, achieving an element of surprise."

Students: ?

That was clearly just a single red light, how could it be two spells!

That was clearly just a single flick of the wrist, how could two different spells come out!

They suddenly felt as though their understanding had been shattered.

What they had been taught in class all along was that one spell and one gesture corresponded to one magic effect. Now they were even seeing spellcasting without wands, and now without gestures too?!

Fawley's focus was also more concentrated than ever, and he didn't slow down despite the students' confusion.

On the contrary, it was just a simple probe.

He had thought his little trick would trouble Tewell, but it turned out to be troublesome for him instead.

What an incredible young man indeed.

After a few exchanges, he quickly adapted to the rhythm of the battle and picked up his rusty combat skills.

Suddenly, spells were flying all over the place, but all were blocked by Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration.

This also let the students realize that there was another profound expert among them.

Transforming flying birds and then precisely blocking scattered spells, wasn't this an expert maneuver?!

Tewell was aware of this issue, but he was also helpless. Fawley's compact body was naturally hard to hit, mostly evading with little trouble, so there were a lot of scattered spells.

Similarly, his own positioning also allowed him to dodge many spells, but aiming low, the spells mostly ended up hitting the ceiling.

So, he began to focus on Transfiguration.

Compared to ordinary magic, his mastery of Transfiguration was clearly deeper than that of this Charms professor.

"Entwined ropes containing a Binding Spell, this is a textbook combination of Transfiguration with charms. Seventh year Transfiguration advancement class take notes, use this in your N.E.W.T.s, and you could at least get an 'Exceeds Expectations' in both your Transfiguration and Charms classes."

"Beautiful dual-spell, you may not know, spells can also be affected by other spells. Professor Fawley's Disarming Spell was influenced by his own Levitation Charm, creating an irregular movement that made it unpredictable."

"Did you see Professor Tewell's movements? He blocked his opponent's path while repositioning, don't just single-mindedly attack or defend, or else you'll find yourself in a passive situation."

Under Professor McGonagall's commentary, the young wizards gradually understood the special effects hidden within these seemingly ordinary spells.

The problem is, they couldn't learn any of it!

Third-year students recalled their combat training with Professor Fawley and gradually deepened their understanding of positioning, casting techniques, and protection.

This allowed them to proudly recount the classroom content to students of other years, although these topics had already been shared before. However, combining them with practical examples gave the students a more intuitive understanding.

"Professor, we want to learn this!"

As the battle progressed, soon the basic content was no longer sufficient to describe the exquisite fight.

Spells were flying, and Professor McGonagall's commentary became even more profound, leaving even the brightest seventh-year students puzzled.

However, they had a very clear realization—Professor Fawley was retreating!

With their knowledge, this was the only way to judge the advantages and disadvantages of the two sides.

Indeed, as Tewell employed Transfiguration, Fawley began to struggle, having to defend against relentless spells and also be wary of transforming objects that could appear at any moment.

Similar to Professor McGonagall, though a Charms professor, Fawley also had a strong grasp of Transfiguration.

But when compared to Tewell, he was clearly on the defensive—his transformations were being reversed and even used to attack him!

This young man's mastery of Transfiguration was astonishing!

A bead of sweat fell from Fawley's forehead, and he dared not divert his attention to wipe it away, letting it drop.

But it was in this moment, unnoticed by everyone, that the droplet of sweat transformed into a needle.

This needle was almost invisible to the naked eye, but could be distinctly felt.

A sharp pain shot through Fawley's calf, causing his movements to stall for a moment.

At the same time, a smile appeared on Tewell's face for the first time, his wrist flicked to deal with two incoming spells, while spells as agile as birds gracefully encircled Fawley.

Just a slight prick, yet with Fawley's prowess, he could still cast an Iron Armor Spell to protect against spells from one direction.

But the birds coming from all directions could no longer be blocked; although their speed slowed, the increased directions of attack were too much for Fawley to react to at this moment.

However, in the next second, a golden shield encircled his entire body, and the birds struck it without causing any movement.

As the light from the shattered birds dissipated, the golden shield gradually vanished.

Nevertheless, both participants tacitly withdrew their wands.

"Young man, you're not playing fair!"

"Professor, you're breaking the rules!"

"What a thrilling duel!"

Professor McGonagall's face was flushed with excitement, and her wand was emitting sparks in her excitement.

"Did you see that?"

Students: What should we have seen?!

"Filius's spellcasting has reached a level where he can do as he pleases, each spell cleverly altered."

"I dare say, just the Disarming Charm alone could take you a year to learn."

"Tewell has taken spellcraft and Transfiguration to a new level, perfectly combining them into a piece of art!"

A seventh-year student suddenly raised a hand and asked, "Professor McGonagall, when will we learn this?"

"Maybe in your next life!"
