Chereads / Steven Universe: The Return / Chapter 46 - A Matter Of Time

Chapter 46 - A Matter Of Time

Steven: Alright, we're close enough to White Diamond's ship, about twenty meters I'd say.

Garnet: Now let's split up, everyone knows where their position is. Also, don't forget to hide well in the rubble, and most importantly, don't do anything until we give the order over the communicator.

Steven: We'd better hurry, it's only a matter of time before the Warship comes and provides the distraction. We must be ready when the time comes.

Everyone: Okay!!

[Steven & the others stealthily scatter around the place, hiding in the rubble as the minutes tick by.]

Garnet: *whispers* Now, waiting is the worst part.

Pearl: *whispers* True.

Steven: *whispers* You know, if something goes wrong, this could be the last time we're together, so, first of all, I'd like to let you know how grateful I am to you, you've done so much for me, and I... I love you guys so much!

[Steven says as he tears up.]

Garnet: We love you too, Steven.

[Garnet replies as she takes off her visor.]

Amethyst: Of course, dude.

Pearl: *tears up* Never doubt that even for a second.

[The three give each other a big hug, preparing for what's to come.]

[A few minutes later.]

[Steven & company peek out and upon seeing the number of Gems guarding White Diamond's ship gasp in surprise.]

Amethyst: No way!

Steven: Is it just me or are there more Gems than Amethyst said?

Garnet: Clearly so.

Pearl: Well, Amethyst most likely didn't count them right.

Amethyst: I'm pretty sure I did!

Pearl: Yeah, right.

Garnet: *shushes* Keep your voices down! Our objective's still the same, one or two more Gems won't change the outcome; your lack of determination will.

Steven: Garnet is right, the situation hasn't changed at all. Besides, I know those two Lapis Lazulis. They're not as skilled or as strong as our friend Lapis, but still, they're not to be underestimated, as their ability to control water is still a problem we have to deal with.

Amethyst: And how do you know them?

Steven: Lapis and I confronted them a couple of years ago, they were terraforming planets for no reason, we had a hard time getting them to stop.

Amethyst: I see.

Steven: We showed them both the beauties of nature, but only one was captivated and set out to attend Little Homeschool if I recall correctly.

Amethyst: Now that you mention it, I seem to recall seeing the freckled one attending Little Homeschool regularly.

Steven: Emerald must've rejuvenated and brainwashed her, and Mean Lapis most likely met the same fate.

Amethyst: Mean Lapis?

Steven: I named them Nice Lapis and Mean Lapis respectively, this time based on their personalities and not on the placement of their gems.

Amethyst: Oh, right. You did that with the Rubies a while back.

Steven: Yeah, it makes it easier to tell who's who.

Connie: You know you don't have to, right? I understand that each Gem has her own name so you can tell them apart even if they're the same gem type, so why bother with nicknames?

Steven: I dunno. I just like doing it.

Garnet: I just told you to keep your voice down! We're going to get caught if you keep this up!

Steven: S-sorry!

[Meanwhile.]

[Just over thirty Topazes and twenty-five Agates and other assorted Quartz are seen guarding White Diamond's ship, Nice Lapis and Mean Lapis stand in front of the entrance.]

Mean Lapis: Tch. That damned wretch, how dare she!?! This isn't a job for a Gem like me!

Nice Lapis: I agree.

Mean Lapis: For some reason she doesn't let me be part of their meetings anymore, I don't understand why, I haven't done anything to earn his distrust... or have I? No, clearly not, she only gives me this kind of job to screw me! What a frustration!

Nice Lapis: Yup.

Mean Lapis: Well, no matter, I guess it's better this way. Thanks to that now I have more time for you.

Nice Lapis: I know, right?

Mean Lapis: *sighs* It's not like it used to be though... It doesn't feel the same.

Nice Lapis: Wh-what do you mean?

Mean Lapis: Don't mind me, just... keep an eye out for anything or whatever.

Nice Lapis: Ok.

Mean Lapis: *sighs* I guess I'll have to wait a little longer. Of course, she just needs more time! Yes, it's only a matter of time, before I know it, everything will be back to the way it used to be, the way it should be!

Nice Lapis: *notices something in the sky* What?

Mean Lapis: I said don't mind me. You see, sometimes I like to talk to myself, and that's a good thing... I guess.

Nice Lapis: That's not what I mean! Look at the sky!

[Nice Lapis exclaims as she points up to the sky in concern.]

Mean Lapis: Huh? *looks up*

[Just then, a pair of bright lights appears in the sky, almost appearing like shooting stars.]

Mean Lapis: What the fuck is that?!

[At the same time.]

Steven: Guys, look at the sky!

[Everyone looks up to the sky.]

Steven: The Warship is here!

[The Warship comes flying through the sky, then immediately proceeds to fire left and right, sending several Topazes flying everywhere, also poofing some in the process. The enemy Gems are dumbfounded at this such an occurrence and merely wonder, "What the fuck was that!?"]

Garnet: The time has come! Let's go!! Let's go!!! Let's go!!!!
