Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: A Burning Carriage?

[Lampyridaetra Medica]: [A legendary firefly species that has the greatest healing capabilities of all creatures. Used as an ingredient in recovery potions and regeneration potions. Due to their unlimited and immense healing prowess, this species of firefly is known to have been hunted to extinction. But has been prophesied to come back someday.]

Well, fuck.

Dzamn, my oh-so-amazing species is extinct. So that only means that I'm alone. And that I won't be able to live quietly since I'm most likely the prophesied one. And I'll probably be hunted constantly if I am not careful enough.

I'm totally loving this aesthetic!

Hmph! I'm such a main character! Hmphhhhhh!!!

Fuck this all! How the fuck am I going to survive here?! By stopping my urges to twerk? By hiding under this rock forever?

I'll still die at that rate!

Oh, yeah! I have unlimited healing with me, right? So if the acid in my stomach begins to digest my insides due to hunger or if I ever get my head chopped off, I could just heal and regenerate myself and wait for the next life-ending blow!

What kind of fucked up setup is that? It's so cute! So aesthetic! UwU!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!

Why is this happening to me?! I can't handle all of these things at once! Isn't this too much of an overkill??? What sins did I commit that resulted in me living in this one-sided Hunger Games of a world? How bad was I? HUHHHH?!?!!

Did I believe in the wrong religion? Was I not slaying enough? Is this my reward for always pressuring myself all the time? By letting me experience being pressured by something else in return? This is so frustrating!

With the greatest distress, I looked around me. The luscious and dark green grass was thriving on the ground. Some floating orbs are flying and gliding in the air.

In contrast to my anger, the night was peaceful. The sounds of crickets are echoing all around me. A few nocturnal birds and bats are presently flying in the beautiful night sky. If I didn't know any better I would've mistaken this whole forest as magical and amazing.

If I didn't know any better I would be oblivious to the fact that this whole place is a hunting ground. And I'm the prey.

I need to live. No matter what. All I can do right now is find food, possibly shelter, and level up my healing powers.

Why? Well, if you live in a freaking forest you're bound to come across a few wounds. Some deep, some shallow but both may lead to infections that can be deadly if not treated.

So I need to level up this light magic thing first. But not now. I should first check out the other gift the Gods gave me.

My title.

Ding!

[The First]: [This title belongs to the first one to be reincarnated in this world from an outside universe. It is also given to the first creature to receive a system. This title also has the effect of allowing the user to have the chance to be the first in some things, if an instance ever so happens, the system will give the user EXP. This title also gives the user the passive skill "Beginner's Luck".]

[Passive Skill]:

[Beginner's Luck]: [Whenever the user does something for the first time, their luck will be infinitely high, which makes any outcome result in the user's favor.]

Haley, my best friend, explained to me what "passive skills" in video games are. These are the things that make the characters in the game she used to play become unique in some aspects. She said that passives are always on or active.

Woah, aside from that no-no news earlier, this title might just help me get through this! It says that my luck is as high as my uncle got when he went to our grand family reunion once when I was just 7. Which resulted in him dying the same day due to an overdose.

Yeah. It's high as heck. This passive thingy just gave me a little bit of hope.

It's still angering though. Ugh!

Okay, there's no point in being angry anymore. Let's not cry over spilled milk unless I want to witness my guts spilling anytime soon. I have to survive.

I have to eat.

Now... eat what exactly?

Looking around, all I see is the beauty of this place. I mean, a few bugs are floating and gliding all around, but I don't know if those are even edible.

Tsk, what am I doing?

"Prey Detection!" I screamed inside my head. In an instant, a wide map showed in front of me.

I was half expecting it to not instantly work but woah, okay it did.

Looking at the map in front of me, I found that it had grids and stuff.

The best thing that I could describe it is that it's a radar.

There's a thin stick circling the map which leaves a musky trail and a small red dot is to be seen. It was on the top ring corner of the screen. There is also a blue dot with an arrow in front of it in the middle of the gird map, to which I assume is me.

"Oh wow, this is really useful! For the first time, I think I can handle this." I said, carefully looking at the screen. It was very easy to understand.

After I inspected it, the screen became small and flew to the upper left side of my vision, making it look like a game map. " It has this sort of feature too! Nice." I said and immediately started moving.

The red dot wasn't near or far. So I just have to walk a couple of distances to get to it.

Wait, thinking about it what if my prey is ugly? Ugly enough to look inedible. Thinking that my prey looked like a cockroach or a type of slug made me feel queasy.

"Blegh!"

Shit, I should stop thinking like this. I don't have much of a choice here. Beggars can't be choosers.

Turning myself to the right, the arrow on the blue dot did as well, showing me that I moved and that my hunch was right. Okay! Let's start hunting!

And so, I slowly crept outside of this big ol' rock. I walked slowly, making sure that my glowing ass ain't visible. Tugging my leaf skirt, I began to look around me.

The grass here is quite large due to my possibly small size. "Possibly" because we aren't sure if I'm about the same size as a human here and this whole forest is just enormous. Or I'm tiny and I'm just overthinking stuff.

While walking forward, I instinctively looked behind me and saw the big rock that I hid on. And behind it was something that I failed to notice when I first opened my eyes here. Why didn't I spot that earlier?

Right behind the rock, there seemed to be a trail. The trail seemed to have come from the opposite direction I was headed due to the way the grass was positioned on the ground.

Some of the grass also looked like it was disheveled and destroyed.

And in the distance, a few meters from the rock I hid in, there was a bright yet small flame visible. And behind it was a much larger blaze. Adjusting my vision to the sudden shift from darkness to brightness, I saw a ginormous structure. It was the same size as a skyscraper in my original world. Only this time, it seemed like it was made purely out of wood and it was on fire.

Shoot, now I'm hella curious. What in the world is that huge thing? Why is it burning? So many questions were going inside my head at that moment. 'Cause seriously what the heck is that?

Okay, it seems like I have to postpone my plans on hunting food for now. First stop, that burning structure in the distance!

And so, as if I don't know the saying "Curiosity kills the cat", I headed towards the bright crimson flame and closed our distance. Tugging my skirt slowly, I climbed a tree near the burning thing and eventually arrived at a small branch. I inched closer above the structure to get a clearer view. Not too close though 'cause I might die if I fall or get killed if I get spotted.

Wait... now that I see it from this angle, there are two... is that a carriage? No, it actually is! Why the heck is it burning? If it is, where's the horse? Lowering my vision, I saw trails and splashes of blood. It covered the grass and the leaves all around the carriage. The blood was still fresh and was still trickling off the grass blades and leaves on the bushes. The carriage itself was covered in blood and what seemed to be claw marks and bite marks.

Was it an attack? A pack of wolves perhaps? The large fire seems to come from a few distance from the wrecked carriage. Looking at the larger flame, it was fortunately just a part of the carriage which must have flown due to the impact. Looking at the ground which has been completely altered, the carriage left a large deep trail on the forest floor.

Following the trail which the carriage must have been from, I only saw more of the wheel's deep marks. And further back, there was darkness. Creepy. Reverting my attention to the carriage, I finally noticed that it was torn in half. And the burning structure in the distance was the top part where the horses should be.

What a scene. I can only assume that this carriage was from humans. And, if I'm not mistaken, I should probably conclude just from this vehicle the fact that civilization within this world isn't as advanced as I thought.

Now, staring at the lower part of the carriage which wasn't burnt that much, I had only one thing in mind.

"I wanna check."

And so, I did. Slowly climbing back, I crawled while tugging my leaf skirt along with me. The reason why I wanna check so badly is the fact that from what I saw up above the branch, this slightly burnt part of the carriage was most definitely where they put the storage.

From up above, I saw spilled luggage and clothes covered in blood. Judging from the clothes, on the ground, my hunch was confirmed. The clothes were the style which shouts "Forgive my impertinence, Sire, but it appears that a letter from the Royal Kingdom has arrived."

Yep, it looks medieval as heck. There were a couple of dresses that I can only snarl at for not only looking really fucking heavy but also very fucking hot and humid to wear. Imagine how much you'll sweat from wearing this? Ugh. It's like you're purposely trying to suffocate yourself.

From the other side where the dress was lying, a very formal coat and vest were to be seen. Although not so formal now since some of its parts have been burnt. Could it be from a fine gentleman?

....

BAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!

"Gentleman"? Nothing of the sort was to be found during the medieval period. Men only saw women as objects and nothing more! If not for the fact that I would get hurt, I would've grabbed a burning stick and set these whole clothes aflame.

And no, I would not bother myself cutting a piece of fabric from these clothes to cover up my rear. These are in contrast to what I'm achieving. I have to blend in the surroundings so I have to wear this leaf for camouflage. Plus, the color is eye-catching so, no.

Turning my back from the clothes, I was now focused on the opened luggage area. What seemed to be the floor before, is now completely turned to its side.

The whole compartment was easy to see since this part of the carriage had been turned to the side. And the bright light of the flame from the far away provided light.

Hmm, it seems like the only things inside the compartment were clothes and luggage. There's nothing left in it after all. It's empty.

And the luggage in question has been torn apart not just too far away, spilling all of its contents everywhere.

Tsk what a waste of time— hm?

Wait...

There seems to be another... compartment. It's located on the floorboards of the tipped carriage. It's slightly open. Hm? Wait, let me check.

No, rather, one of the floorboards has loosened. Sure, some might say that it may be just because of how bad the carriage was totaled but this floorboard is still in perfect condition when everything around it has almost been turned to charcoal and ashes. And something feels weird about that specific floorboard.

Wait, wait, wait. Now that I look at it, is that shit glowing? No, rather what's under it is glowing! It's hard to see it because it's being outshined by the bright fire near me but it's most definitely glowing!

Could it be... one of my species? Was I not alone after all? Was the system wrong—

*Ding!*

[The system can never be wrong.]

"Wow, what an inflated ego we have here," I said while chuckling as I closed the message. But before it could even disappear, another system notification popped up.

*Ding!*

[The odd feeling the user is getting from the floorboard might be mana fluctuations!]

[Would the user like to purchase the skills: [Mana Detection Lv1] and [Inspect Lv1]?]

Oh?
