Chereads / Ash's Fall / Chapter 2 - chapter 1

Chapter 2 - chapter 1

In the shadows of the human soul,

Lies a realm where demons stroll.

Where envy gnaws and hatred seethes,

And malice lurks among the leaves.

Beneath the mask of civilized grace,

Lies a darkness few can face.

Where greed consumes and power corrupts,

And innocence is shattered by cruel erupts.

In the echoes of whispered lies,

The dark side of humanity lies.

Where hearts grow cold and compassion dies,

And the light of hope dims in silent cries.

Ash sat in the car looking at his father's tense expressions, his confusion growing as time passed on.

Looking into his sister for help, he was met with a sight that would forever haunt him. Before him was the bloodied and mangled body of his sister.

"Ahhhhhhhhhh"

Launching up from his position, Ash couldn't help but release a stream of tears as his eyes darted round the room trying to find his father.

Seeing himself in a lightly decorated room instead of the car he was in before, Ash had a sense of foreboding.

Trying to recall his last memories, he was met with a sharp pain from all over.

"Argh"

he groaned in pain as his body writhed about on the bed, more tears streaming out his eyes.

The sound of the door slamming onto the wall was drowned out as all he could feel was pain.

Feeling hands holding onto his body, Ash but back his pain and managed to take a peak at who it was, expecting to see his father, only to be met with the face of Thomas.

Before he could make sense of what was happening, the pain racing through his body suddenly calmed, quickly replaced by drowsiness.

Fighting a losing battle, Ash managed to croak out Thomas name before falling asleep.

Seeing the young boy finally calm down and breathe in a pattern, Thomas could finally release the breath he didn't know he held.

Hearing footsteps approaching, Thomas looked at the man in white lab robe approach him, a mask on his face.

"Is he going to be alright?" Thomas asked, worry clearly heard in his voice, to which the doctor replied

"He's alright... For now." He paused to write out some things before continuing " it's just the physical trauma his body went through. After some days and constant medication, he's going to be alright."

Recieving confirmation from the doctor, Thomas sat beside Ash, using his hands to remove the strands on his forehead.

Seeing the boys defenceless state, Thomas swore to protect him with all he had.

Affirming his convictions, Thomas silently walked to the door of the room, stopping only to look at Ash one last time before heading out.

Outside he saw a squad of four men in black suits armed with guns waiting for him

"They're waiting for you" the lead man spoke, directing Thomas away from the room

As they walked away, Thomas couldn't help but look at Ash's room before following them.

Going through a series of winding tunnels and checkpoints, Thomas was led to a door at the end of a corridor with dark oak wood double doors at the end.

Standing in front of the doors were two guards in different uniforms from the rest. These guards were in full tactical gear, with an assault rifle in hand. From the way they stood, Thomas was sure that they had experienced live combat before, unlike a number of guards he had seen in this underground facility.

Reaching the guards, the supposed leader of the men in black stepped forwards and whispered something in the guards ears, to which they threw a furtive glance to Thomas, before opening the door.

Bowing in appreciation, Thomas was finally led into the dimly lit room, where a group of men sat around a round table.

From the security of the room to the aura these men seemed to release, Thomas was sure that he was not in a room with ordinary men.

Stopping in front of the round table, the leader of the men in black stepped forward before announcing

"The order of the nights watch greets the council. We have brought the head guard of the frost household " his head facing down as he addressed the council.

Hearing what was just said, Thomas couldn't help but be left shell shocked.

What was the night's watch?

As a member of the frost household and personal guard of the lord, he had heard rumors of a special agency under the control of the president.

These men were supposedly the best of the best in all categories, and were comprised of war veterans

So hearing that the men that led him through this facility were part of the mysterious nights watch, it left him shocked.

But the real shock came from the group of men who sat round the table.

If they were truly who the guard had introduced, then they were the men who truly ruled the day to day activities Alexandria confederation.

If his lord was still alive, he would be a part of these men on the table.

"Your effort is appreciated... You may leave wraith's"

A deep voice cut Thomas thoughts short as the nights watch guards bowed before exiting the room.

As the last guard left the room, Thomas couldn't help but feel the silent pressure pressing down on him.

"Thomas was it?" The same deal voice continued "we were told that the head of frost household is dead, could you recount everything that happened?"

Although it came out as a request, Thomas could feel the underlying threat there.

Taking a deep breath, Thomas recounted everything that happened earlier in the day. When he reached the part where the accident had happened, his voice cracked a bit as tears welled in his eyes, but he continued till the end.

Taking a deep breath to calm his emotions Thomas heard a snicker in the room. Lifting his head, he scored the room trying to find where it came from, but because of the dark lighting in the room, it was a wasted endeavour.

"That fool" a new voice cursed as he continued with a booming laugh.

Unlike the first voice, this one was not as deep, but it had a certain shrewdness in it, and it sounded somehow sinister.

Trying to find the origin of the voice, it continued

"And who is the only survivor of that man? Is it his the beautiful girl...? Or the wasted brat?"

Hearing the way the voice ridiculed his master and long time friend, Thomas was filled with anger.

In all his years of being alive, Thomas was sure that he had never been this angry before. But what could he do...

Absolutely nothing.

Fearing for the wellbeing of young Ash, Thomas tried and failed to hide his anger, which seemed to amuse a few of the council men as more chuckles could be heard.

Seeing the tension was increasing, the deep voice was once again back.

"My condolences. Although this is a great loss for this great confederation, there is auch greater issue at hand..."

The wall at the far right of the room suddenly lit up, showing an image of the planet slowly drifting away from the sun.

"Astrologers from the national research institute has observed that our planet xeron has been slowly drifting away from the sun for the past hundred years." Pausing to let the information sink in he continued " although we noticed latex at the speed at which it was drifting away, we thought we ckuld come up with a counter measure in time... Well, that was our mistake."

The image on the wall showing xeron slowly drifting away from the sun suddenly sped up, increasing the distance faster than before.

"As at last week, the speed suddenly increased, and has been increasing daily at that. Noticing how grave the situation is, we sent word to every prominent person in Alexandria to meet and pass through this crisis together, as we are the noble of noble, we have to survive and pass our pure blood to ensure the survival of humanity.
