Chapter 6 - still don't know her name

Upon noticing the two individuals gazing in his direction, Abbey swiftly made a decision to evade their line of sight by swiftly ducking and concealing himself behind the sofa. Due to the room's dim lighting, he cautiously navigated towards a nearby pillar and concealed himself yet again. Abbey's heart raced with excitement, his adrenaline surging through his veins. With mischief in his mind, he contemplated, "I shall play with their thoughts. They are unaware of whom they are challenging." Instantly, he projected his presence into the minds of the two individuals simultaneously, a triumphant grin adorning his face as he executed this bold move. With a determined resolve, he internally stated, "Let us delve into the depths of your minds and uncover your secrets." In this moment, Abbey positioned himself in a position of power, ready to unravel the mysteries hidden within the minds of his unwitting adversaries.

"What's going on? Is this some kind of test or is someone playing a prank on us?" Abbey couldn't believe that his fellow burglars were actually just common criminals. He thought that they were sent by the company or an international organization. They sure picked the wrong house to rob today, and to make matters worse, Abbey was inside.

He thought to himself, "Not long after, I'll be messing with their nightmares and fears." Turning to the first guy, he said, "I can tell that you've done this before. You run your own crime syndicate. Time to give in to your fear. You're afraid of being overthrown." Abbey intensified the fear of the first burglar hundredfold.

"And as for your second-in-command, he's secretly plotting against you. He intends to kill you and usurp your position." Meanwhile, the second man feared getting caught. But Abbey also intensified his fear of being caught to the point that the man thought he was being surrounded by the police. He immediately fled the scene.

While the first guy was still screaming and calling his gang members to attack his second-in-command before leaving the apartment, Abbey smiled to himself and thought, "I wonder what will happen next."

Later that night, Abbey sat on the sofa, too excited to sleep, when the door opened again. He wondered what was going on and if this was part of some kind of test or prank. This time, a familiar face walked in - his mysterious host. Abbey was relieved to see her and took a deep breath to compose himself.

She seemed to have noticed something was off and asked, "What happened here?" With a calm demeanor, Abbey replied, "Some men broke into your apartment earlier. They were just burglars. But I dealt with them and don't think they will be returning anytime soon."

"You dealt with them?" she asked. Abbey nodded and she trailed off, as if remembering something. Changing the subject, Abbey asked, "How did your meeting go?She replied, "Not too good. I was blamed for nearly everything that happened today and they are planning to cut off my funding. They say I was reckless and don't adhere to policies and regulations."

"You were being reckless," Abbey repeated. "What do you think would have happened if you hadn't gone to that building alone?"

She yelled at Abbey because he had belittled her and called her a reckless person. "This reckless person just saved your life and freed you from where you were held captive," she replied. Abbey did a double take before responding, "It still doesn't change the fact that you went in alone and unprepared. What if something had happened to you? What would have happened to your family and friends? Or do you not care about them either?"

"I am an orphan, so I don't have a family. I don't really do friends either, so who gives a shit?" she said with anger.

"There's too much anger in her head. No wonder she has built a barrier around her mind. But that's not the only reason I can't get into her pants, I mean her head," Abbey pondered to himself.

"By the way, when are you going to tell me your name? Or do you still intend to keep it from me?" Abbey asked with concern.

But before she could say anything, her phone rang again. She walked a short distance to answer the call, staring right at Abbey. "That's a strange look. Are they talking about me? What is she up to?" Abbey pondered in his heart.

After some time, she came back while still giving Abbey that strange look. "You have to go. It's not safe here," she said.

Abbey was curious to know why her attitude suddenly changed. "What information did you just receive that is making you act irrationally?" he asked immediately.

"You can stay the night, but you have to leave in the morning before they come," she said.

"Who is coming?" Abbey asked.

She couldn't say much to Abbey but kept insisting for his own good. After thinking for a while, Abbey finally said, "If that's what you want, no problem."

Early the next day, Abbey was already up and exiting the apartment. He didn't even say goodbye to the mysterious lady. Instead, he just got into a cab and headed straight home. At home, Abbey tried to reminisce about the previous day's events. He remembered managing to propel himself into her mind and catching a glimpse of who she really was, but before he could probe more, he met an irresistible force. The next thing he knew was that he was being shoved away by the force and for a moment, he could see her smiling at him.

Abbey was too stunned and shocked to even speak to her. He felt humiliated at the same time. Who was she? These were the thoughts that were repeating themselves over and over again in his head. All he knew about her was that she was more than she claimed to be. By the time Abbey got to his office, he was a complete mess because his mind was somewhere else.

"Hello Abbey, how was your weekend? Hope you enjoyed yourself," asked Kelvin, Abbey's colleague and close friend at work. Abbey's mind was a world away, and Kelvin had to nudge him a little to get his attention. "What's wrong with you today? You seem to be lost in your thoughts," Kelvin asked. Finally composing himself, Abbey replied, "I had a busy weekend and I haven't even slept much." Abbey was lying through his teeth.

Meanwhile, Hans Miller, the current head of security, was in his office when he received a call. After some time, he called on Abbey and Kelvin. "There is a disturbance at the cafe. Go and check it out," he told them. Both Abbey and Kelvin hurriedly rushed to the cafe, only to find it peaceful. "What's going on here?" asked Kelvin, seemingly surprised. Abbey nodded his head in disappointment. "Why would they send us on a wild goose chase?" he thought. But before they could realize what was happening, they were surrounded by men in all-black uniforms. The men pointed their weapons at both Abbey and Kelvin. The leader spoke, "We have you surrounded. You have nowhere to go. Don't move, and we will not be forced to fire on you guys." Both Abbey and Kelvin were shocked, and they couldn't even take a step out of fear of being fired upon. Still, Kelvin bravely spoke up, saying, "We work here, and I have not done anything wrong." The leader yelled, "We know who you are, and we are not here for you. So, you can step aside and let us do our job." Kelvin looked at Abbey, asking, "What have you done? It seems they are here for you." Abbey, looking very confused now, could only shake his head in surprise. He thought about using his powers, but he wondered how he would explain it to Kelvin and the bystanders now watching. He also thought that there would be too many casualties if anything went wrong. "I know I am not a good guy, but I am not a monster either," he thought to himself. While he pondered these things in his heart, he could feel something else at work here. An invisible hand pulling all the strings. He felt the presence of another power beyond his own. "Who are you hiding in the shadows, lurking around and looking to devour you?" he wondered.

He had a strange feeling and thoughts, but he couldn't do anything about them at the moment. He could only play it cool and hope things wouldn't spiral out of control. As he lifted his hand to indicate his surrender, a trigger-happy man from among the group of men in black suddenly shouted, "He's reaching for a weapon!" Gunshots immediately rang out, filling the air with smoke and chaos. When the dust finally settled, Abbey found himself lying on the ground, covering his ears. "I'm still alive," he thought to himself. "Since these people obviously don't care about the safety of those around them, why should I care about what happens to them now?" he decided. "I'm going to use my power to get rid of every last one of them," he thought. But just as he was about to use his power against them...
