Hearing her, Liam felt the blood drain from his face and instead of answering her question, he asked instead. "Why did you try to kill Richard in the first place? What did he ever do to you? His business was with dad and not you."
Harriet's eyes flashed with something dark, something bitter. "Why not?" she spat. "It was the only thing left to change our lives. Richard had the chance to go but he didn't leave. He was greedy, wanted more but we were more in need of that more. If given a chance, I'll do it over again. I don't regret it if that's what you want to know," she said and Liam looked at her, unable to believe her words.
Even though the words were coming out of her mouth, he still found it difficult to believe.
Liam's mind kept racing. His mother's words felt like daggers, each one cutting deeper than the last as he struggled to keep himself composed.
"Is it true, then?" he asked and Harriet raised a brow.
