Fiona's heart sank, bewilderment spreading across her face as she couldn't understand why Amos was calling her names as well. He of all people should know best.
"What do you mean? Is this about the news? You know all that is a lie. If it were true, why didn't he report it after I left his house? You should be looking for a way to resolve this instead of calling me names," Fiona said, her voice shaking with confusion and hurt.
Amos snorted. "He probably just discovered it now. You'd better return the jewelry you took. You lying thief," he spat before hanging up.
Fiona stood there, staring at her phone in disbelief. She felt the weight of the accusation pressing down on her, her mind racing to make sense of the betrayal from someone she had trusted. How could he have believed all that so easily? If she were a thief wouldn't she have stoled from more than one person?
