"What? I'm asking for your sincerity and instead of you being sincere, you want to end things?" he asked unbelievably and Elena shook her head, as she headed to the living room and Phil followed her.
Phil watched in disbelief as Elena grabbed her bag from the couch. "I think I should go. Maybe you need to figure out what you want and how you feel. I don't appreciate love, you should already know that by now," Elena said as made for the door.
Phil watched helplessly as she headed for the door. "Elena, wait. I didn't mean to push you away. Fine. I believe you don't have a boyfriend. Can we at least go have dinner?" he asked hopefully and she paused, her hand on the doorknob.
She looked back at him, her expression softened but resolute. "I need space, Phil. We both do," she said and with that, she was gone, the door closing behind her with a finality that echoed through the apartment.
