The tension in the room was thick, and Derek knew there was no getting through to Liam right now. He exchanged a look with Cora, who gave him a small nod.
They had to give Liam space, even if it pained them to see him like this. "Okay," Derek said softly. "We're here if you need us."
Without another word, he and Cora turned and left the office, leaving Liam alone with his thoughts and his pain.
As they walked down the hallway, to Derek's office, Derek's mind raced with questions. He knew Liam wasn't handling this well, but he also knew there was nothing more he could do right now. All he could do was be there when Liam was ready to talk, if that time ever came.
As Derek and Cora's footsteps faded down the hall, the heavy silence of the office descended upon Liam. He stood up and walked to the floor to ceiling window, looking out into the sky view, the beautiful skylines doing nothing to soothe Liam's pain.
