Even as she tried to drive, Fiona couldn't bring herself to do so. She brought her phone to her face once again, wanting to take a proper look at it, to see if she was mistaken.
But Fiona's hands trembled as she stared at the picture of her mother on her phone screen, bound to a chair with terror etched into her eyes. Her heart raced, a cold sweat breaking out on her forehead as the realization of what this meant hit her like a freight train.
She was barely aware of her surroundings as she started the car, her mind clouded with panic. She needed to confirm. To be sure. This had to be a joke or some kind of prank. She told herself.
She immediately drove home, her heart pounding in her chest, as if her heart was going to jump out of her mouth. When she got home and realized that it wasn't a prank and everything was real, she crumbled to the ground.
