"What are you saying?" Gabe asked.
When Gabe asked the question, he still took a step back, behaving like he was still apprehensive about Sir X's supposed involvement and villainy.
'I dislike anything that goes close to mental conditioning. I am a free being and not a slave, and I will pick where my loyalties lie,' Gabe thought.
"I said, this whole thing was just a test from the start," Sir X said.
"You say it was a test, a test for what?" Willow asked.
"We wanted to see if you would ever betray the family," Sir X replied.
"You wanted to see if we would ever betray the family. Hmmm! So if we had failed the test, what would have happened to us?" Gabe asked.
This time, Sir X did not reply immediately, allowing Gabe to continue.
"Your silence speaks volumes, Sir. Is it that we would have been killed if we had not passed?" Gabe asked.
