Although he didn't make it to the combat unit, Alex was dedicated and made up his mind to put in more effort to level up and join the combat unit.
He was really dedicated to his duties and this endeared him to almost everyone including his superiors.
But there was one thing Alex had been battling with since his childhood and this was a feeling of inadequacy. He always felt unworthy and inferior although in reality and to others around him he was seen as one of the best.
Alex was one of those kinds of children whose parents push them to be better and follow in their footsteps regardless of the child's choice.
Alex's father who was well known as one of the best soldiers during his service also wanted his son Alex to accomplish and gain such honor, so from a very young age, he started training Alex in the art of combat. Alpha Curry never took Alex's little failures with leniency. He was very strict and mostly treated his son like a Captain to his soldiers.
The relationship between Father and son wasn't so smooth but Alex was always doing his best to impress his dad.
This was the reason why Alex hadn't revealed to his Father his position in the institution and his performance at the tryouts. He knew what would follow and wasn't ready for that. So Alex he did his best to fix the situation by achieving a promotional transfer to the Combat and special forces unit.
Things seemed to be going according to plan for Alex until one fateful day, his Dad paid him an impromptu visit at the Academy. This wasn't a good situation for Alex because he had hidden the truth from his father and his cover was about to be blown.
As soon as Alpha Curry arrived at Boris Academy, he went straight to the Captain's office to exchange pleasantries and to inquire about Alex's welfare and his conduct.
"Wow, look who we have here, the best of the veterans of this academy, Curry himself", Captain Morgan exclaimed as soon as he saw Alpha Curry.
" You're welcome, it's an honor to have you here", Morgan continued.
" Thank you Captain, it's my pleasure", Alpha Curry replied.
Morgan who was curious about the reason for his visit then asked him, "So what brings you to Boris Academy, any new updates?.....".
" No,no, I'm not really here for that, I only came here to check up on my son, Alex…" Curry replied.
" Oh! Alex, that boy is an excellent kid. He's one of the most dedicated person I've ever seen and he always performs his duties without hesitation". Morgan interjected.
" That's a very good kid you've raised, keep up the good work", Morgan continued.
" Well that's my job and I'm trying my best to make him even better than I ever was and I won't stop until I've achieved that goal", Curry replied.
Then Alpha Curry asked to see Alex and Morgan sent someone to get him from the practice center. Coincidentally, Liam happened to be present when the person was sent to fetch Alex, so he decided to inform him about it.
Alex was having a personal training exercise when Liam walked in, " Alex, you're being summoned to the Captain's office, I think it's something about you having a visitor".
Alex froze on hearing Liam's words. He wasn't expecting anyone except his dad who had promised to visit him the next week. Out of curiosity, he asked, "do you have any idea who it is?".
" No, the Captain didn't say, I suggest you head over there quickly, you wouldn't want to keep your visitor waiting", Liam replied.
While they were speaking the messenger came in and informed Alex about the visitor confirming Liam's words.
Alex rushed off to the Captain's office to know who the mystery visitor was. On getting there, he met his Dad there and froze. He wasn't expecting his Dad till next week. He felt like the earth should open up and swallow him. This was because his Dad would or had already found out his secret. But he decided to keep calm and play along.
" Dad! This is a surprise, I wasn't expecting you until next week, at least that's what you told me, so what changed?", Alex said trying to hide the concern on his face by feigning his surprise.
" Is that how you greet your father whom you've not seen for a while now, come over here and show me some respect". Curry said smiling.
Alex went over and prostrated to his father who then picked him up and hugged him. After the exchange of pleasantries they both sat down.
" Well I was on my way home through the route to this area so I decided to stop by and see how you were doing, considering the fact that it's been a while since we last spoke to each other". Curry explained.
They both settled down and his father continued to converse with the Captain on some other matters and then they started to discuss about the attack on the Al-Anon base. While all these was going on, Alex silently prayed in his mind that no event that would expose his secret to his dad takes place until he had left. Signs of anxiety was shown all over his face.
Captain Morgan noticed and asked him, " Are you alright, Alex. You look lost".
" Yes sir, I'm fine just a bit tired, that's all", Alex replied.
Then Alex asked to be excuse and he left the room. Captain Morgan then went on to brief Curry on the new discovery from the Al-Anon incident.
" Curry, there's something I'll like to tell you and it's concerning the investigation we've made concerning the Al-Anon attack. I want you to keep it a secret for now", Morgan said.
" Okay, I'm all ears, tell me". Curry responded.
" On hearing about the attack on the Al-Anon base, I gathered a squad with some guys from the Intel unit for quick response but on getting there the attackers had left leaving the base scattered and in disarray. Then I asked the men to look around and see what they could find".
"After a short while, two of them came to me with an empty box they found opened in the vault and some powdered substance they gathered on the floor….."
"What?!, if I am correct, are you saying the the crystal suit prototype has been stolen", Curry interjected.
" I'm afraid, that's the situation now", Morgan replied, " but we're currently working on finding out the components of the substance to determine its origin".
" This is bad, that was our last resort to tackling the problem we have on our hands. Things are going from bad to worse", Curry sighed.
"How time flies, I have a long journey ahead of me, I better get going. I'll pay a visit next week to get more updates from you", Curry said as he looked at his wrist watch and stood up to leave.
" Alright, I'll be expecting you, have a safe journey", Morgan replied
Curry asked for directions to the Combat unit block so he could secretly check on Alex and see how he was doing. He went there but couldn't find him, then someone directed him to check the Intel unit block.
Just as he was heading over there , Alex and Liam were just heading out of their scouting classes.
As soon as Curry sighted Alex, he called out his name, "Alex?!....".
Alex looked up to see who was calling him and saw his father.
" Ohh no!..", he whispered.
