"I did not expect you to come, Draven," King Liam, Alba's father, spoke, his gaze shifting from Madeline to the vampire king.
He was just as surprised as his wife when Alba mentioned the king's arrival. It seemed Draven had only informed Alba of his visit.
"Hmm," Draven nodded, his hand tightening around Madeline's under the table, "I wanted it to be a surprise."
Draven squeezed Madeline's hand under the table. Thankfully, he composed himself and joined the family for dinner.
Madeline felt Draven's reassuring touch and looked at him, still worried about his well-being. She had been so anxious that she almost wished the dinner could wait until she was certain he was okay.
Draven had noticed tears welling up in her eyes when he came out of the bathroom. Seeing her overwhelmed, he wanted to ensure she was all right.
