Chapter 13 - Help, the story is following me again…

I shielded my eyes with a smirk from the energetic sun, as the curtain of shadow from the alleyway beside our house was suddenly pulled away from my face, and began unhurriedly walking down the populated pathway with my hands in my pockets.

My short bangs swayed subtly in response to the light winds that were even prevalent in a main pathway like this.

Approaching the swarmed marketplace, I began to look around for targets. It is not normally in the marketplace where I find them, but I do sometimes.

In a certain alleyway, three young boys could be seen surrounding a pitiful girl with a face plagued with acne. It was obvious they were up to n-

Wait… did you just say acne?!? Finally author!! Some creativity!! I've been starting to get irritated because no matter where I was I could never find a single person without some pristine face without any sort of imperfection. Like, perfect noses, ears, skin, everything; I was beginning to think that that was what it meant to be human in this world, and that to have an imperfect face meant you weren't one.

Interrupting my euphoria, was a loud thud of a trash can, having been kicked over by who was presumably the leader of the little gang.

"Hey, are you a monster?!? What even are those things on your face?!?!" The boy asked rudely, once again kicking the defenceless trash can lying on the floor.

"Is she a two eyed beast? Maybe we can absorb her eyes if we take them." One of the lackeys sniggered, followed by a bratty chuckle from the leader.

Hah, amateurs. You can absorb the eyes of humans aswell, idiots.

The girl hugged her own body, as she gasped.

"Y-You have already… taken my heart… and now your looking for my eyes aswell?!?" She said, followed by a raised eyebrow from everyone present except the leader of the group, including me who was watching the scene unfold from on top of a roof.

"H-Huh? I took your heart?!? W-What are you talking about?!?" The boy asked, flustered.

"And now you're going to act oblivious?!? You're horrible, Arthur!! I didn't know this was just a one sided love!" The girl quickly replied as a single tear streamed down her face.

Embarrassed at how red he appeared to his friends, he stormed towards the girl . "I-I don't know anything about that, bastard!! All I know is that I wouldn't want a monster like you l-loving me anyway!!" The boy retorted.

Having reached the girl, he threw a vicious kick straight to her face. The kick wasn't too powerful however, and didn't end up pushing the girl too much. It did make an evident bruise on her cheek though.

"Do you not have any honour?!? How dare you kick a girl!! Who the hell would like you anyway, I was just trying my luck so I could get out of here without getting hurt!!" The girl shot back.

Woah, what acting skills. She can even cry on command…

"You…!" The humiliated boy welled up in anger from hearing this, and used his punny optic powers to conjure a small slab of earth in his hands.

"Wait, I was joking! I mean, I'm sorry!!" The girl regretted.

He payed no heed, however, as he got even closer and lifted his hand high in the air, gripping the block tight, planning on pummelling her with it. The girl covered her head with her little hands as she curled up, bracing herself for the soon to come impact.

However, she felt like she had been tricked, as the moment she was so afraid of never seemed to come. Instead, she ended up seeing the block that she brooded landing ungraciously on the floor a bit away from her, shattering.

Alarmed, the boy looked around with haste, searching for the one who had knocked away his weapon.

"Who is there?!? I am the king's cousin's friend's nephew!! How dare you get into the way of my affairs?!?" He said with a hint of pride.

Okay…

The whole area rumbled a bit, as the children became increasingly terrified. The lackeys were getting ready to start running, when a tall wall of earth suddenly rose on front of them, and behind them, blocking them from escape and from the girl they were bullying.

Looking up at the walls in fear, they realised that the walls seemed to have words etched into them.

'How old are you?' It said.

"Huh?? W-Who are you?!?! Show yourself!!" The leader ordered shakily after reading it, putting on a strong front.

After he said that, the walls seemed to move, closing in by about a meter onto the group of boys, as if urging them to answer the question

"You scaredy-cat!! Come out!! Or else I'll tell m-"

"W-We're 9 years old" One of his lackeys interrupted, shouting, realising that maybe answering the question was a better move than threatening with a non-existent relationship to the king.

"Pfft." A snigger echoed throughout the tight space.

The words on the wall began weirdly contorting, as it started to a show a more lengthy text.

'Your optic powers are terrible.' It read this time.

"Huh?!? I'm only a ki-" He was interrupted again by another change in the text.

'I'm nine years old too, idiot.'

"What?!? You're lyin-" This time, his other lackey blocked his mouth.

'Also, empty your pockets.' The wall once again contorted.

Hmm? What do you mean this is too far? These guys bullied a girl!! This is punishment!!

"Huh?!? What for?!?" The boy was finally able to finish a sentence.

'Because I want mon-' Before anyone could finish reading it, it quickly changed again.

'Punishment. How dare you bully a girl. Utterly unforgivable.'

Seeing his lackeys obediently place their coins on the floor, the young master finally decided to look at the situation objectively, and realised there was nothing he could do at this moment except be obedient like them. And so he followed his lackeys actions, leaving a lot more coins than they did on the floor.

'Good boy. Is that all? If I find that it's not then I'm going to stab your buttholes. I have a spell special made just for that, I'll have you know.'

All three of them shuddered at the thought, and immediately began fondling their pouches with everything they had, just in case they missed any.

'Also, if you wanna bully someone, always go to this specific alleyway. If I find you somewhere else, I'll stab your butthole, got it?'

The boys hurriedly nodded, gulping at the weird obsession this person has with stabbing buttholes.

The area gained a bit of light, as one of the walls disappeared, leaving only the wall blocking them from the girl, standing. And they all ran out of there, crying.

I finally decided to jump off the roof, and into the alley, by conjuring a staircase that neatly descended to the ground.

Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, I marvelled at the ground littered with countless dongs and dings, as I unattentively recalled the stairs I just used. I looked forward to the day when they would hopefully come back here to bully someone again. It's nice when you have an excuse.

About to start picking the goods up, the bullied girls face with acne popped up in my head.

I wondered if I should recall the wall that separated us, but decided to do so after all, even though I was keeping myself hidden until now. I was pretty curious on what her acne infested face would look like up close, and she might give me some reward for saving her.

And as I expected, I found the girl there, recovered from her previous kneeling position. She had silky purple hair that made it down to her shoulder blades, and round purple eyes, one of which was being mostly covered by her ruined hair, ruined by the rough few minutes she had just experienced. But yeah, she definitely did have quite a bit of acne.

"U-Um, thank you for saving me, umm…" She said as she shyly averted her gaze, fixing her hair behind her ears.

"I already saw your acting skills, and I'm not telling you my name." I said unperturbed.

"Tch." She clicked her tongue in annoyance, disappointed she wasn't able to secure an easy connection, and maybe a husband.

She then began walking towards me, only to seamlessly end up behind me, picking up the coins the boys dropped and putting them into her money pouch.

"Are you really nine years old though? I mean, you look like it, but…" She asked, hinting at the optic powers I used earlier.

Ah, yeah. I made sure to show the text on the other side of the wall aswell. I wanted her to know that a 9 year old was doing that too.

"Yup," I smirked. "also, thanks for picking those up for me. Where did those acting skills from earlier go?" I mocked as I beckoned her to pass me back my money that she was attempting to steal, to which she complied without a second thought.

A minute passed in silence, except for the scraping of coins on the stone floor, as we both picked them up.

"No but seriously, thanks for helping me. My name is Vanessa Blacksmith. Nice to meet you." She said.

"Say that after you take out the coins you snuck in your pocket." I refused to entertain.

"Really?? Not even one?!?!" She brooded.

"Just how poor are you??" I rolled my eyes. "Yes, not even one."

"Ugh, fine!" She stomped out of the scene, flicking coins out of her pockets as she went, leaving me behind.

Noticing one ding of the 46 dongs and 22 dings that the boys dropped was missing, I began to really wonder if the girl was actually homeless.

Sighing, I walked out the alleyway to the still young morning. That wasn't the best introduction to my daily life to be honest, as I don't normally actually steal money from the kids I bully, I just show off my optic powers to random kids, that's all.

That's one thing I've been quite excited to do since I began learning optic powers, as I knew I had an unfair headstart compared to others, I'd be ungrateful if I were to not take advantage of that.

Or maybe I'm just really petty…

…yeah, it's probably that.

But who cares! After all, I'm not the one that chose my personality, god did!
